Ah I remember how around the time I encountered the puzzles we just happened to have some sort of blind people awareness day at elementary school where they taught us brail for a bit and gave us one of those sheets with the alphabet on it. I don't I've ever been more excited in my life when I noticed that it was the key to the puzzle I was trying to solve

I really wish Game Freak includes a lot more obscure puzzles and areas to hide legendaries. Just exploring and figuring out the mysteries was a lot of fun.

Actually I didn't know what braille was when I was little, however when I was in the scouts we had a handbook that contained all sorts of languages and codes. I recognized the writing as seen in the game once and I was so surprised when I managed to decipher it.

"From ersatz to bonafide" might be the best "I might have pulled these words and expressions from a thesaurus when writing the script" moments yet. Love the videos every week, they kick off my Sundays right.

Complete FSG evaluation so far: 1. Charizard - pretty decent 2. Venusaur - consistently good 3. Unown - I don't know, who cares 4. Blastoise - very, very mediocre 5. Dragonite - incredible 6. Starmie - great 7. Snorlax - edge early on, but later dropped off 8. Gengar - phenomenal 9. Alakazam - great start, but later pushed down 10. Gyarados - pretty good 11. Chansey/Blissey - one of the best Pokemon 12. Machamp - decent 13. Arcanine - wasn't a bad Pokemon, wasn't a top threat 14. Lapras - not that good 15. Articuno - even more not that good 16. Zapdos - pretty damn good 17. Moltres - better than I expected 18. Tauros - it were rough two decades for him 19. Aerodactyl - decent 20. Nidoking - pretty good 21. Scizor - great 22. Tyranitar - was and is amazing 23. Rhydon/Rhyperior - decent, at least for a bit 24. Shuckle - bad, until maybe gen six 25. Heracross - honestly, it was pretty good 26. Smeargle - pretty good 27. Skarmory - amazing, in singles 28. Golbat/Crobat - OK 29. Slowbro - pretty good 30. Wigglytuff - outclassed 31. Porygon/Porygon2 - Porygon sucked, but Porygon2 was pretty good 32. Porygon-Z - OK 33. Seadra/Kingdra - hard to say, OK, I guess? Seadra just kinda sucked, really 34. Onix/Steelix - Onix was outclassed, Steelix started out well, but never really got anything 35. Azumarill - certainly wasn't a Pokegod, but once it got its combination, it was terryfying 36. Magneton/Magnezone - pretty good, especially after evolving 37. Sneasel/Weavile - Sneasel was pretty bad, but Weavile was pretty good 38. Poliwrath - not great 39. Espeon - hard to say, potentially one of the strongest non-uber Pokemon 40. Umbreon - pretty decent 41. Ampharos - wasn't that good 42. Cloyster - pretty damn good 43. Houndoom - a little underwhelming 44. Togetic/Togekiss - Togetic f**king sucked, but Togekiss was pretty damn good 45. Pikachu - pretty bad 46. Raichu - pretty bad 47. Breloom - pretty amazing, to be honest 48. Garchomp - in a word, amazing 49. Gardevoir - up and down 50. Gligar/Gliscor - Gligar wasn't great, but Gliscor was awesome 51. Feraligatr - it depends, kinda well, not great, but certainly not atrocious 52. Typhlosion - not great 53. Quagsire - man, I don't f**king know 54. Meganium - sucks 55. Dunsparce - sucked 56. Donphan - pretty dang average 57. Jolteon - for most of its life, really good 58. Vaporeon - pretty good 59. Flareon - sucked and still sucks 60. Metagross - incredible 61. Salamence - amazing 62. Swampert - good 63. Blaziken - probably best starter of all time... for now 64. Wobbuffet - hard to say 65. Sceptile - pretty below average 66. Clefable - dramatically shifting its whole life, nowadays strong placement 67. Tentacruel - OK, for a while 68. Jumpluff - honestly not very good, but better than you might expect 69. Exeggutor - steepest decline of all covered Pokemon 70. Mewtwo - you're kidding, right? 71. Mew - really good 72. Lucario - really strong 73. Kangaskhan - OK 74. Flygon - never face of the tier, but always important and defining 75. Milotic - proud representative of its kind 76. Dugtrio - once it gain Arena Trap, it become the force 77. Suicune - as good as it is regal 78. Raikou - pretty good 79. Entei - not that good 80. Marowak - had a bone or two to pick 81. Ninetales - not very good at all 82. Gallade - pretty decent 83. Tangela/Tangrowth - among the most forgettable Pokemon, but once it evolved, it become the damn important pick 84. Electabuzz/Electivire - for the most part, quite bad 85. Magmar/Magmortar - not good, like, ever 86. Misdreavus/Mismagius - OK 87. Pidgeot - bland, until mega made it viable 88. Persian - sucked after first generation 89. Roselia/Roserade - pre-evo wasn't great, Roserade was 90. Weezing - always decent, at least in the lower tiers 91. Ledian - one of the worst Pokemon of all time 92. Muk - pretty alright 93. Delibird - one of the worst competitive Pokemon in history 94. Piloswine/Mamoswine - Piloswine was underrated, but since it evolved, it become the wrecking ball 95. Froslass - definition of a specialised Pokemon 96. Beedrill - until it got mega, one of the worst Pokemon, but after, one of the most important in UU 97. Celebi - great, great Pokemon 98. Aggron - pretty much on the below average side 99. Lugia - every bit as good and some as in other media 100. Infernape - overall, pretty good 101. Sandslash - went from being decent to despondent 102. Empoleon - pretty great 103. Ho-Oh - pretty good 104. Mawile - for its first three generations, seriously awful, but then become one of the biggest threats around 105. Torterra - wasn't fantastic 106. Golem - not all Pokemon can be amazing, and it is a prime example 107. Shedinja - honestly pretty terrible 108. Rayquaza - only superlatives describe how powerful it was 109. Ditto - may not be the best in the older games 110. Scyther - in the grand scheme of things, awful 111. Staraptor - one of the best non-OU Pokemon of all time 112. Lopunny - quite decent 113. Ludicolo - wherever best aplicable has made its trainers jubilant 114. Slowking - wasn’t a superstar, but was a solid overall Pokemon, and it deserves some pants 115. Nidoqueen - her reign has been fruitful 116. Pinsir - functioning quality, then launched into successful territory 117. Murkrow/Honchkrow - the Sopranos of Pokemon weren’t great, but they had their place 118. Claydol - victim of power creep 119. Groudon - amazing and then some 120. Kyogre - every bit as amazing as its legendary status would suggest and then some 121. Jynx - fantastic 122. Volcarona - one of the most powerful Pokemon around 123. Rapidash - not very good 124. Forretress - one of the most successful singles Pokemon of all time 125. Sableye - unique case, for the most part done well 126. Hydreigon - pretty phenomenal run 127. Dialga - very good 128. Palkia - went from utterly dominant to having its viability slashed 129. Jirachi - always ranged from good to great 130. Regirock - good, in the lower tiers

I always used Regirock in sandstorm with an assault vest with max special defense investment. This with its naturally high defense plus Drain Punch made it a fun wall to use... Until Z-Moves showed up...

Luvdisc? It was the water pokemon that has shaped the meta revolved around had AMAZING stats with every stat over 100 and was always in ubers

I judge a pokemon's viability like this, if it's good in a tier in whatever gen, it's good in that gen. If it fails to be usable in every tier in this gen, it's bad in that gen. This means that despite being low tier, regirock actually has had a great competitive history at least to me.

Rest Curse Sleep Talk Rock Slide (Leftovers, Max SpDef & HP) can be pretty devastating to an unprepared team

I had to get a legit dictionary for my friend that had the brail guide to how to open the goddamn door.

Imagine if Regirock had Sandstream because of the Rock Typing it's special defense would increase by 50% they could do the same thing for Regirock with Snow Warning. I guess for Registeel you could do Filter since it wouldn't make a weather effect but it would give make fire, ground, and fighting types only do 1.5x damage instead of 2x

I always liked the regis, they tried something new with defensive minded legendaries, plus they just have some of the most awesome designs.

I doubt i'll have much to say about the pokemon so i'll just say: whoever decided to include a braille puzzle in a medium where you couldn't touch the bumps is a goddamn fool

I think Regirock is really underrated in my opinion. My favorite way to troll OU is running a min-HP max attack and speed w/ a weakness policy, so when the landorus T goes for an easy stealth rock, you can switch to Regi, and when it tries to EQ you can just rock polish, live with either sturdy or outright thanks to Regi’s high natural defense, and get the WP boost and start wrecking everything. Great stuff

My friends and I actually made a group called PRS, Pokemon Research Squad, in middle school and figured out the Regis by ourselves. That was a lot of time. We had sheets and sheets of paper trying to translate those dots. It wasn't until a few years later we found out it was braille, and when we checked our work, it was almost perfect. Finding the Regis without any help is one of my favorite video game memories.

You said Regirock roughly 33 times, neato burrito! I've always really liked the Regi trio for some reason, I couldn't tell ya why though, but I'm really excited you're covering them. Looking forward to the other two! I feel like all the Regi's could benefit from an offensive boost, or some form of recovery outside wish support or rest talk personally.

I think Regirock has great potential with reuniclus, becuase they can sweep everything with trick room, great coverage, and two different attackers. Edit: Not to mention Curse makes Regirock faster and bulkier in trick room

I had this one troll set in Gen 5 with Regirock. I armed him with counter and sent him against the enemy physical sweeper. Quite a few satisfying ragequits quickly followed hahaha

When you mentioned that ruby and sapphire guide it's just brought back a memory of mine. When I was like 13my buddy and I went to the comic book shop to buy Yu-Gi-Oh cards, while there he walked over to a rack of game guides and say that one your talking about, we had stumped by that brail puzzle for weeks cause we both had pre-owned copies of the games that didn't have a manual with them so we couldn't decipher the brail. UNFORTUNATELY, we had spent all out money on Yu-Gi-Oh cards so we had to steal the guide. We felt bad about for like 10 seconds lol

I had one with defense curl and rollout back in the battle frontier day. Can stampede through entire teams by the time you get to the second or third attack.

As a kid I tried to read those simbols and some how I arrange them in a way that made sense to me and it worked with 2 out of 3 regis, I remember being super hyped about it

Don't get me wrong, the guide to finding the golems made it really easy and I used it a lot after I found one. Let's just say it helped out massively to learn about braille during elementary school when playing Gen 3 and doing it without a guide.

Me and a friend of mine actually took these as challenges and solved them ourselves, sometimes through trial and error, sometimes out of geniuine puzzle solving skills... And a lot of luck I remember this one and the Spiritomb from DP were the only ones we really managed to crack open (though we did have to look up some numbers on serebii for the ladder) I really wish they brought this back! It's the reason Gen 3-4 were and still are my favorite gens yet

I use in vgc 18 a regirock with protect, ice punch for the landorus t, salamence,etc(for OHKO), rock slide(stab and for the charizard OHKO y and incineroar), hammer arm(for tyranitar OHKO, and others pokemon), and weakness police(full hp, 2HKO vs lando t earthquake, charizard y solar beam) and use an oranguru with trick room and the exclusive move, to spam the bost rock slide with weakness police, cuz the lead lando t and charizard y are comonn, and the habbility clear body disabled the intimidate

Before watching the video, I predict it was decent to good in it's debut generation, then became bad gen 4 onward due to power creep being too much for its good defenses but bad typing. Edit: turns out I was pretty much right, though it's descent was a lot less of a sudden plummet and more of a smooth glide down the tiers.

It just so happens my grandpa's house where I was living had a book about learning braille. I was able to solve the regi puzzles without access to the internet and it felt really good. Such a cool sidequest.

The Braille translator was in the back of the R/S/E manual for a reason. Had no trouble with that as a kid.
