Hey, thanks for covering the game. The team at Angry Demon Studio have created the perfect Cat'n slash game and whilst not everyone is going to get to see all the gore. We thought 'Purple Toy Juice' was a nice alternative. Don't worry though. August 29th is going to be a BLOOD BATH!

Why not make the censorship optional in all regions to let consumers decide what they find offensive? This forced censorship seems like it's just to appease a ratings board or government body so the game can be sold to a wider audience.

@@uVSthem Uhm, I mean, kind of? The team is offering the option to censor for yourself IF the demand is high enough. That's a plus, you know, coming forth to offer a solution if a probelm actually exists. On the other hand, the censorship for Japan is needed. I guess it's pretty much either "censor it and let Japanese people play the game" or the alternative of "don't censor it and either it can't get published, can't get advertised well, won't get played, so many Japanese will involuntarily not get the chance to play". Now, tell me, which sounds fairer, play but with restrictions, or no play at all in one country?

@@SyckestBlah This just reinforces my original point: the game is being censored In Japan to sell more copies, not because there is no other way to get it sold in there. It will be challenging to sell it uncensored in Japan but it wouldn’t be impossible.

I don't understand why make a censored mode optional in some regions but be it the only mode available in others. And as tradition, while the West hates foreign sexiness, Japan hates foreign violence. Which is kinda funny, considering some of the most violent and gory games I've seen were from Japan and some of the most unapolagetically horny games were made by Western developers.

@@Wolfedge75I don’t know if it’s double standard but each region has its own standards. I personally don’t like localized Western games - partly due to the censorship which has some times affected gameplay like in Just Cause and previous GTAs - so I only play the original version

@@kaycee7446 Myeah, censorship is mostly a publisher's issue. Of course, there are some stuff that is absolutely illegal in some countries and unfortunately need to be censored, as stupid as it may seem. But for the most part, publishers from all over the world are way more sensitive torwards what comes from outside in than what is being made in their own territory. Be it general lack of market study or fear of getting penalized by some form of law enforcement or some old fart higher ups. Whatever it is, it's a problem that has been plaguing games for years. Games are still not considered an art form, and therefore aren't treated by the same standards as other pieces of media. As long as they're still just a 'product', censorship and lack of preservation aren't seen as attacks on free speech or cultural erasure, rather they're simple compromises in order to better guarantee a bigger profit.

Yeah, CERO is very strict when it comes to extreme violence in video games, especially when it comes to displays of graphic dismemberment.

I don't know why they don't have a setting for gore/blood (that in Japan defaults to "off"/"cute" but can be set to "real") That's what the Yakuza/Like A Dragon games do

My guess is "some people" refers to the CERO rating board, seeing how they are very strict when it comes to video games that display extreme violence that involve graphic instances where arms, legs, or even heads are dismembered from a body.

CERO? I know they can be very strict when it comes to gore, but it's often when dealing with humans. Usually zombies get a pass. Something like "mutant toys" also seems fine because they're not human, along with monsters. The only understandable part are the dead humans.

The devs seem pretty tounge and cheek about this overall. They're basically going "yeah this sucks but hey nothing we can do about it so let's do have some fun with it." Also the fact that they had some of the dev team donate blood is nice in general.

I've been looking forward to this one ever since the first time I saw gameplay of it. I want every bit of blood and gore this game promised so I'm glad that the US release probably has it all.

Wait, why not offer the gory version as an option to the JP players who want it? Not my kind of game, I don't enjoy gore, so even the censored version would not be enjoyable for me, but still there should be an option for the JP people who do enjoy that kind of thing.

The fact that the CERO is very strict when it comes to violence and blood makes me wonder...if the Nights of Azure games had more red blood would those games have a higher age rating in some countries including Japan? I would say ''yes, probably''. Still, the fact that the ''purple toy juice'' may be included as an option in the west is something I like, and if it's really included that would be cool.

I wonder that as still in progress of playing that game. Surprised no Z rating for Gori, if Resident Evil can, whatever Splatter house reboot did as well as it was overly cartoony blood too. Danganronpa did it's blood pink. A different game as sweat like I forget the name of. A toggle I think makes sense but the rating still has to advise. So it's tough. I prefer options of gore/swearing even if I leave them on, then none and audience changes, especially if could be a mechanic also then cut and game has to be reworked.

You can get Dead Space on PC though in Japan through Steam and no censorship because the rules that apply for console games for some reason don’t apply to PC. Callisto Protocol however isn’t available on PC in Japan which doesn’t make sense. Then again I don’t get why some japanese games aren’t available on steam in Japan.

@@spongebobfan78 On the japanese steam it isn’t available. You can get it if your account is set to a different region which is pretty easy to do, especially for the Epic Games Store. The game itself has japanese language built in.

I kind of understand why. In japan they have the concept that if something is left along long enough it DOES become sentient and alive. Ie an old shoe left alone becomes sentient and can attack humans if it was abandoned(hense why every little while they have a festival where their old and wornout stuff is destroyed so they don't gain sentience and become hostile)

Been interested in this game. Not surprised by the censors of Pink Danganronpa or sweat or Gori in this case. Surprised not a Resident Evil style Z rating. Tv/game ratings are weird for violence and ecchi situations but it is what it is. Wonder what Sunset Overdrive waa rated as it was soda zombies so orange? Besides other ratings of kid like but goo or green or other blood then red because colour change safeness. I don't even remember of this game irs possessed toys, zombie toys or combinex of flesh or other things in them from the trailers no idea of story reasons why. But sure if they have to. Whether on and off options like PS3/360 used to do but when Nep doesn't for swears when COD or Gears did who knows, been looking forward to this game. Need a good platformer/hack n slash by an Indie sometimes.

Weird I mean it’s not that censored color change to blood makes sense, since toys bleeding is weird it would imply they are organic. Plastic can’t bleed it’s just breaks. And the humans being censored sounds weird. I would need to see it for myself because word descriptions don’t help visualize what is the problem. But this sounds like fake outrage rage bait to upset brain rot gamers. In short a publicity stunt to hype the game with slight negative censore ship.

I like colour blood options. Getsu Fuma Den: Undying Moon has it too and I use it there, because blood can stick on the character and the character has also red parts and in combination with the blood the whole character design get messed up. Also you killing demons in the game. Changing the colour make them for me more demon like. Serious Sam had it too, but you could even change the blood to flowers, that was always a fun one. 😁 And in Jet Force Gemini you could unlock a rainbow colour option, that was fun too.
