I was a junior high principal in a New Orleans suburb in the 80s and 90s. The teachers taught well, but the behavior of the students worsened over the years so much that teaching became more difficult. The biggest problem in education is poor parenting. Good parents have good students. The teachers have no control over the type of students in their classes.

I taught in the inner city in Dallas. Most students who caused trouble had no father in the home. Mom, or more likely grandmom, was working two or three jobs to feed and house the children. These children were raising themselves and doing a very poor job of it.

In the 1940 Census, the demographic with the highest % of 2-parent families was the black demographic. That's about when welfare came about with all its negative incentives to increase benefits for themselves. All demographics have dropped in the % of 2-parent families over the last 80 years, but the blacks went from first to worst. Probably because a higher % of blacks receive welfare than other groups.

Crime is not arising from ......poverty ? Really ? Isn't that kind of resolved ? Look at all wealthy areas in the US and the world ......very low crime almost negligible ..

I've read all of Sowell's books except his most recent one I think. I grew up in Seattle and never realized I had politically implicit assumptions. After I read a few books from Sowell I started examining my beliefs and realized I couldn't back any of them up. I knew nothing, yet believed very strongly.

I'm a baby boomer. The way we kept our hog in the pen is we kept them fed until the day of slaughter. They stayed right there waiti ng for the next feeding. That's how the democratic government is controlling the blacks every since we've been off the plantations. Keeping us in a zone waiting on the next hand out.😂 As long as they know where we are and what low level standard we are on, they are fine.

Boomer here too, what about accountability for staying in school, getting an education to better yourself and not relying on the government to support. Can only blame ones self if one stays on public aid, snap and public housing as they are all a dead end, and no one to blame but the image in the mirror.

You need a history lesson. Under slavery, families were ROUTINELY split up. Read Allan Nevins 8 vol history of the American Civil War

He does give solutions he says 1st to get married second have children and stay married. He also states if your culture does not have the prerequisites to become successful then borrow from other cultures that do have those prerequisites to become successes. What works for that culture will work for yours.
