VVDs communication was the first thing spoken about when Liverpool signed him. we had a dysfunctional defence that didnt speak to each other. Day one he came in and started talking people through games. when hes too old to kick a ball, we can still use him just standing there telling folks what to do.
@gwelland7
@gwelland7 4 дня назад
this is a major problem when VVD is not playing or even Konate. I like Quansah but he isn't the most vocal or dominant and Gomez I've never seen communicate on the pitch like ever. If the first two centre backs go down it's a big drop off in organization and being responsible. you can be a great defender but if you don't communicate the whole things a mess.
@ComradeOgilvy1984
@ComradeOgilvy1984 4 дня назад
Compare with Dejan Lovren. The player had ability and was sometimes brilliant, but he was not steady and did not help steady the players around him. Similar problem with Joe Gomez. He hesitates and makes things worse, and you can be certain he is not saying anything while he is confused.
@nigl2807
@nigl2807 2 дня назад
We missed that commanding CB who takes charge since Sami H left. VVD gels the defense, his own abilities aside, the commucation and organization is what sets him apparent. The other guys are right. Konate,Gomez neither are take charge types. Quansah MIGHT be able to develop that as he has been captain in the youth teams and has time on his side (he is only 21 and very much learning and learning from the best). If we end up not keeping VVD we will have to replace him with someone similar imho.

Macca is legitimately a footballing genius. Hess figured this sport out and tracks pride in outsmarting everyone else in the pitch. I was never a huge fan of the Zubimendi transfer because I felt we needed someone more physically imposing alongside MacAllister, Zubimendi isn't even 6'. Seems insane now that when we signed Gravenberch, one of the biggest talking points I kept seeing over and over was how he definitely wasn't a 6 lol
@tdyerwestfield
@tdyerwestfield 4 дня назад
Gravenberch has been a joy to watch in our team this year. He's been our best player. We'll struggle when he's not on the pitch. You can see why Slot was so keen for a top player in that position, and he's moulded Gravenberch into that player, probably better than what we might've got with Zubimendi.
@tdyerwestfield
@tdyerwestfield 4 дня назад
When Klopp was asked towards the end of last season how he could solve Liverpool's defensive woes (conceded first in 28 games last season), he said "that's for the next manager to worry about". Slot took a defensively weak player in Gravenberch and turned him into a DM monster. Liverpool have conceded the fewest goals of any team in the league so far.
@jamespace5429

A number of Liverpool's signings from the rebuild are levelling up - Grav and Gakpo, to some degree you could even include Konate and Diaz in there. Who knows maybe Nunez could still come good. They signed athletic players with great tools but not the finished article - common issue amongst them was in game intelligence and decision making.

@asparapee4213

I don't think Nunez will come good. His first touch is suspect and his football IQ is low. He makes runs at times where it seems like he is intentionally getting into a position where he can't receive the ball. Slot demands highly technical and highly intelligent players. These are Nunez's two biggest weaknesses. I think Nunez could be successful in a different system, but not with Liverpool.
@ComradeOgilvy1984
@ComradeOgilvy1984 4 дня назад
Gravenberch is a big man, but he bends his knees to get his body low and has a good sense of balance. On defense, that means he can launch a leg out very quickly and with a very long reach. When receiving under pressure, again, he can reach far and get a wide range of angles with either inside or outside of foot. Having a good touch and being very two footed, that means Gravenberch can first touch the ball in almost any direction while under pressure. Gravenberch is ridiculously press resistant. About twice a game, you can see an opposition midfielder thinking they have a good chance of taking ball away from Ryan, only to be left for dead.

He's been arguably our best 1-3 players in every game so far this season. I think he has 3 or 4 MoM awards across all comps too. He's been imperious. I also think you should have brought up his more defensive numbers, because that was what I thought was his weakest part of the game and why I didnt think he could be a 6. I don't think he is a true #6 but I think his skillset is tailor made for the #6 role. He is such a good ball carrier to get out of trouble and progress forward. He will learn the nuance of the position specifically the reading of the game side that is so important as a #6. I think the double pivot with Mac Allister make up the best pivot now in the premier league (after rodri got hurt). They seem similar to Mac Allister and Caicado at Brighton

One thing that should be mentioned is that in order for Gravenberch to roll his defender like that the pass coming into him must give him the information he needs to know which direction to turn. Grav’s quality is evident and he enjoys receiving the ball under pressure, the back four play him the ball perfectly so that he doesn’t have to touch it to beat his mark.

Yeah they might not be teams with the most glorious names, outrageous up n coming talents or esteemed past, but all of them gave it their all against the mighty Liverpool, bar maybe the Ipswich game. Even then for 45 mins they kept us on our toes. 'Muh anyone can look good against these teams!" Absolute nonsense. There are no easy games in the Prem, home and away and we're living proof of that! Top of the league, best GD, best Defense, 2nd best attack after Spurs and we still lost at home to Nottingham Forest! You can't make this up. We play the occasion most of the time anyway, drop our lvl to the opposition. So we play "stronger teams" we usually raise our game.

Away to Ipswich in GW 1 isn't easy, nor is going to Palace for the early Saturday game after playing on the Wednesday evening. As for united, Liverpool @ home is their biggest game of the season - hardly Slot's fault ten Hag bottled it. Because Liverpool won all these games, this has now become an 'easy' run. No-one said that before said games though. Of course there are better teams to come, but you can only beat who you play. I'm looking forward to seeing how Liverpool fare against better teams, because none of them are playing better than Slot's team right now.
