As a Mexican American it’s so strange to me that when you see American commentary channels speaking about Canelo it’s always about how great he is and pretty much just praising him(which I think he deserves most of it). But on Mexican media outlets, or social media he gets so much hate from the Mexican community.

When Canelo fights, the whole of Mexico knows, but it's frustrating to be Mexican and talk about Canelo with other Mexicans who are casual boxing fans and don't even understand the weight of his career. Unfortunately, a great majority of Mexicans detest Canelo for comparing him to Chávez, saying that Canelo is cowardly in the ring (because they don't understand that boxing has evolved to be more technical, precise, and beautiful). It's ironic that the whole world respects Canelo and the majority of his haters are from Mexico just because they don't know about boxing and think he's overrated. Thanks for making this video, Mouse, you're the GOAT
@Internet-Dumpster
@Internet-Dumpster Месяц назад
@MNN1118 Not really, the mindset of the people I know who hate Canelo has been there since before he fought Mayweather in 2013. Benavidez didn't even have a career back then; That comment would apply to boxing fanatics. What I'm referring to is casual Mexican compatriots who hate him without even knowing his career
@user-up7jb8ex2e
@user-up7jb8ex2e Месяц назад
Casuals dont realize that Chávez had one of the best defensive head movements, they like to think JCC was just a "fajador" (brawler), JCC was a pressure fighter like Canelo, because both had power, but they also had good defensive skills, JCC was more sutil than Saul, that the only difference, also both have a granite shin😬.

When Canelo fought Cotto, even though Cotto was done by then, I thought it really showed Canelo’s newly developed defense skills. After Floyd I felt like he was training his defense more, and the Cotto fight was where he finally perfected it. I hadn’t seen Canelo move that defensive and smoothly at the time.

Love it DJ! Of the countless videos and fights I watch of canelos I've seen two things people don't do enough of. 1) his left hook and his liver punch is the same set up. So you never can really tell where he's going with it which is so dangerous. 2) Canelo is one of the few boxers that throws right hooks to the body. He'll jab then hook the body which lowers their guard for the big hook up top

6:30 I don’t think it’s that space he does his best work bc well frankly that’s just punching distance. That’s not a unique feature. It’s everything up to that. His ring control and angle cutting is unmatched. He downloads and opts for quality first and foremost. But more than that even, he attacks the body. The sequence vs Kirkland was after he got down downloading and was whipping his body to shreds. To the point Kirkland starting to look for an escape after Canelo walked him down away from that left body shot. Canelo hadnt focused on going upstairs just yet. That was really his first true loaded disguised shot. Canelo is also class as baiting ppl in . Here it was Kirkland’s aggression he used against him. Overcommitting on shots and eager to get out from the corner he walked right into the right hand. Bivol kinda showed us in all honestly, where you said Canelo does his best work is actually false. It’s reverse. Just outside the pocket is where Canelo gets pieced up. He’s not a true mover. But its head movement is just good enough he’ll get by. But slick guys actually have taken rounds off him like this. Some, including myself would say he lost atleast 1 of the first 2 GGG fights like this. Golovkin was much better in this space. khan touched him up good in this range. Obviously Floyd beat the shit out of him right at this range exactly. It’s not his specialty. But you see him doing great work at this range so often bc of the set up and stress he puts his opponent under to get there. But in fights he just sits in that range and his opponent has answers for his foot movement, see above, he doesn’t look at good here. Trout did the same. It’s clear to beat Canelo you MUST have good defense. And anyone who uses great offense as a defense better bring their favorite PJs bc you’re going to sleep. That’s my fear with Mungia. I love the guys heart. He fcking game through and through. But gd his face is a magnet. That sht won’t work vs Canelo. I think JM has a better shot than ppl are giving him but he’s outgunned and doesn’t have the same chin as Canelo. But his left hand will find its home and Canelo is susceptible there to be honest. But he’s going to get TAGGED. Regardless it’s Canelo finally fighting a Mexican and I think it sets up his fight with David next.

I think a massive aspect of elite boxing that we don't see nearly as well in MMA is the high levels of defensive responsibility and fluidity in Rhythm. Boxers have a layered, nuanced defensive system while MMA fighters tend to be one trick ponies who fixate too much on one or two defensive tools. I think Jose Aldo is the best template of how a high level and layered defensive system can be developed in MMA.
