Interesting, working both that dropshot and Texas rig much faster than I do this time of year. But, you're catching fish quicker than me too. Lesson learned, thank you!

I’m sure fish know a lure is not a food item…I believe in making them react! So they have to mouth it to inspect it. Obviously when it’s warmer they are more aggressive so maybe they think it’s food? Who knows? 😉👍🏼 Thanks for comment

Is there any big zander in there. My biggest is 12 from the Ouse but I’ve not had any interest from a Zed in a number of years

Lovely seeing a Zed coming out of the fens... Have you ever tried using small deadbaits for them andy or do you just prefer shads etc etc ... Brilliant watch 🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣

Thanks for comment 🙏 In the hey day of fenland Zander in the 90’s I would use small livos on a running ledger rig. 2 rods one on nr shelf one on far shelf of wide fenland drains. Sit for 25 mins then move 40m or next swim whichever easiest. All of this as it was getting dark or in the dark. There would be areas of nothing then suddenly wallop both rods would go often with 2 doubles in the landing net at same time. We caught loads of Z’s using spoons trying to locate the pike. Shads were not available then. Lure fishing in UK was in its infancy. Zander fishing in the fens these days is pitiful compared to how it was. I would use shads especially if water temps were higher or if I felt the Z’s were on the munch! Deadbaits were no where near as good as the little livos.

Hi Andy, in your expert opinion ,what would you look for in a zander peg besides baitfish? How would you recommend fishing for them ? I have heard that fishing really slow for them and tight to the bottom is a good idea. I have zander in my waters but have never caught one let alone target them. Also have you caught them on hardbaits? I know a guy who catches zander in the weir by me he uses 20 cm shads, I'd be very interested to hear your opinion. Thanks in advance, all the best mate.

catching zander aint that hard, just need to fish for them.. I wouldnt start out with 20cm baits though.. ur not fishing a big river in holland.

@@larsvegas1505 what would you recommend thats relevant to my questions to Andy. I will say though where I fish is heavily electro fished and tracking them down is one of the main problems. I have an idea of where they are but how many is another story

@@nathanielpudwellksi2506 Dont know what u mean with electro fished? like commercial fishing? anyhow if the fish are there u just need a couple spots and fish them on the float with livebait.. timing is also important.. mid winter is not the best time. U can also cast a shad.. like 10 cm ones.. its mostly about finding where they are.. or throw in a boat and fish with livescope (thats how i do it mostly).

Hi Nathaniel Great question. Zander are very moody. They can be really easy to catch then sometimes really tricky. This time of year slow fished baits like creature baits, stick baits, small shads on a drop shot can be great. During warmer months the Zander can be very aggressive then bigger baits score really well. However I find Zander in different waters tend to behave quite specifically to that water. You need to work out a pattern. Location obviously is key. When bank fishing I move a lot. I find once I know a good method for that water then I can work out location by expecting to get a hit instantly once I’m in the right area. They do move a lot at times so don’t get stuck in one or two swims. I’m gonna do some vids on using creature bait & drop shot for Z’s 👍🏼
