Nice to hear this interview and to hear from Dom - and it confirms what you see in the bike design: sustained high-quality thoughtfulness that is apparent throughout the bike's conception and execution. Elegance and parsimony are in strong evidence (love my Secan), not just in construction and industrial design, but also in material design, real-world use and choices about the bike's purpose and user. Luckily for us riders, Dom's decision to make the bike he wants to ride coincides with a lot of riders and how they want to ride too! I miss my RC 200 frame but can highly recommend a Fairlight bike. Very fine, super planted, very quick and hugely satisfying to ride.
I wish Dom Thomas would've elaborated further why the "structure" of 3D printing is problematic for steel bicycle frame manufacturing. Does 3D printing compromise the granular structure of the metal and, hence, the strength of the final product or is it a matter of a nascent technology not being economical for production runs typical of bike models?
