The Recon Physical Assessment Test (RPAT) is a next-level physical fitness test that Reconnaissance Marines must pass to join and stay in the community. Anyone who wishes to become a Recon Marine must pass the Recon Physical Assessment twice during the Basic Reconnaissance Course.
The RPAT consists of a 500m swim, calisthenics, 1.5 mile run, 12 mile ruck, and 2 rounds of the Marine Corps Obstacle course. The real kicker in this test is the 12 mile ruck, which needs to be performed with a 50 pound ruck. As such, many Marine Recon candidates have been known to fail the RPAT the first time they take it.
This video explains every event of the Recon Physical Assessment Test, as well as the minimums to pass it. If you’re interested in becoming a Reconnaissance Marine, or you’re just here to see how hard the Recon Physical Assessment Test is, watch this video!

Recon sniper vs scout sniper & differences
@RedxCode
@RedxCode 10 месяцев назад
Fun fact, the RPAT was also adopted by Scout Snipers as an annual test including at the schoolhouses some time during GWOT era until disbandment, known as the SSPAT (the only difference was the swim was for completion, not time). It was done to ensure peak physical standards for those in the Scout Sniper/STA Platoons and is usually used as an initial assessment for platoon candidates during screeners.

Back in 89 I did the indoc for 1st Force in the Phillippines. This consisted of the normal PFT events, pushups, and the 500m swim. We then did a 15 mile run through the jungle (7 steps) where guys were dropping like flies. It was about 99% humidity at 95F. At then end, only 3 of us finished. Me, A guy named Wahlburn, and some dude from 1st Tanks who did it just for shits and giggles. I was then told "I did a good job but this really didn't count" and to do this again when we got back to Pendleton. What a mind fuck. 🤣🤣

Just curious, I RECON on the back of the Recon Instructor’s t-shirts with RECON looking like a Ranger tab. Former Ranger and just curious. Semper Fi Marines.
@michaelray5023
@michaelray5023 Месяц назад
I think the RECON tab is an indicator that they are Ranger Qualified. I have also seen ‘Sapper’ tabs looking a lot like the yellow Ranger tab. Recon Marines don’t really wear tabs on their cammies from what I remember. I only ever saw them wear the Gold Jump Wings and Scuba pins on their cammies.

When I was there in 05-07, HQ Bn was only H&S Company and Truck Company. But HQBN was a weird thing. It was a battalion level element, but adjacent commands like provisional MP Company and Division School fell under it for some support stuffs. Even the higher G level shops has some stuff that fell under HQBNs AO like their white gear vehicles. Was a weird fuckin situation. A large chunk of personnel across HQBn was FAPs from all over division. Guys that were medboarding, guys without enough time left for a deployment, legal holds. Looking back it was fucking weird. 1st Recon Battalion was next door and they ran the BRPC next door. This was all on camp margarita at the time. that weird ass half 5 story barracks out by the gas chamber? It’s still there and is abandoned. I stopped by Margarita in 2019 when I retired and the whole place is so much nicer 😅

RADIO RECON WE NEED THAT. ITS THE MARINE CORPS PREMIRE TACTICAL SIGINT COLLECTION GROUP. Its a good way to get to recon if you are smart enough but struggle physically because on the way to recon you can train with people who've made it through BRC for up to 6-9 months sometimes more before going to RTAP and BRC

I just turned 17 and joined the Marines, 90 recruits came through platoon 3018 on March of 1981. And only 30 graduated from the original 90, this is the cream. 1982 I went to Scout Sniper school, 12 out of 12 graduated same cream. 1983 I go to Amphibious Reconnaissance School with my whole Aco 3rd Recon Platoon, the same cream, only one Marine dropped from the ARS, our platoon Sargent did not like drowning he also was not like us, how many times did we drown or were drowned. The same cream, we will rather die than betray the oath we took. One of the flash backs I get are drowning in the middle of the cold ocean alone. How many Marines drop from Reconnaissance school? Not many not as much as Buds. Marines are the cream of the Military. We know what it is not to quit and not to ever go against our constitution or Gods Law. We are already dead and judged, there is nothing you can do to us that Castro hasn’t done to us already. lol

I was in BRPC 9-19(I got Med dropped. I’m not recon) They issue Rockets and Jets, some dudes went and bought their own Frogs. Noo clue what it’s like now. But I don’t think they be super heated over a dude using his preferred fins.

Wanted to go recon... Getting selected for tow gunner at soi fucked me. So I became a battalion sniper. eventually became an EOD tech and then transferred to JSOC as an EOD tech. So no love lost. But recon is by far the best non-socom unit. Be pretty neat is they got some socom money to give them a chance. Retention will always struggle if they don't.
