Loved my 2020 Bolt EV but finally got a 2024 Blazer EV and am done with small EV’s! Love the safe, roomy and comfortable Blazer and it charges extremely fast at an Ultium charger nearby! Also the software fix for the Bolt was great, 100% again! I like the smooth ride of the Blazer!
Thanks for a great review. With the battery recall a used Bolt is definately the used EV deal of the century. Those saying that they wouldn't buy a Bolt because of the recall should check with Kia, Hyundai & VW as they are going through a similiar recall.
The recall has been going on for most of 2021 and will continue in 2022 as GM Replaces battery packs in 2017-2022 vehicles. Not every vehicle will need the entire battery replaced, some will just need certain cells replaced. I’d absolutely make sure you’re communicating with the dealer or seller of the used Bolt and make sure that the recall has been completed. To this point, most Bolts have had software restrictions placed on them limiting charging to around 80%. Hope that helps! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out and let us know, we’ve been navigating the recall for months - Brandan
I'm getting ready to purchase a 2019 Chevy Bolt with only 8000 miles on it. It has a brand new replacement battery, Show room condition $4000 under blue book. It will be my 1st EV adventure. Letting go of my 3500 diesel Duramax as my new work commute is only 12 miles each way. I'm not really worried about the battery issue if it Burns it Burns as long as I'm not in it, That's what insurance is for.
Thanks for the video! The recall has definitely caused a stir because I've been monitoring car prices for a replacement and there are a handful of Bolts around where I am going for around 15K or less, and most have had the recall services applied to them already. Definitely hoping to pick one up if it proves worthwhile, I've always wanted to get into an EV
I have three EV's, this one is the best. Bought my 2017 Premier last year with 50K miles for $18K. I drive a lot and now have 100K miles on it. Zero issues. Going to enjoy my new battery with longer range. Thanks for the video.
I’m approaching my first year on a 3 year lease so I’m interested in hearing your experience. We Love our Bolt EUV. I drive it everyday, many times a day but mostly short trips. I take my dog everywhere and leave him in the car for 15 minutes, door locked, while going into the grocery and Leave the Motor Running with Air Conditioning running. In fact I leave it on all the time dog or not because it’s so damn economical to run and keep comfortable.
Good review, guys! A Bolt really is a likeable car. Now comes the decision - if GM offers you the MSRP swap, would you get a new one if you didn’t have to wait forever to get it? If you’ve traveled at all in the VW, my hunch is you’ll say no.
Thank you for the comment! I absolutely agree with you regarding the suspension of the Bolt EUV versus the Bolt EV. It's a more comfortable ride. - Brandan
@@EverydayEV Thank you. As an owner/driver of 2022 Bolt EUV Premier for 4 months I absolutely love its subdued ride through potholes I never expected from Chevrolet but which I used to love from my long experience driving our VW Passat station wagon 2002. And by the way that is an early 2000 suspension from Audi. If Bolt EUV would have the same seats quality as VW the ride might be even better. Allas, the seats are not so bad but could be better.
Besides being a big fan and owner of a Chevy Bolt EV, I am also a perfectionist neatnik who does care about his car being tidy. So, speaking about keeping the seats clean: I don't have dogs but I do carry a folding e-scooter on my back seat. All it takes is an old blanket that I lay on the seat before loading the scooter.
We do have a dog cover in the back seat, but our puppy likes to jump up front and in the back. She refuses to jump into the back for some reason haha… 😅 - Brandan
Is is common for GM dealerships not to have J-1772 but have DCFC? When I took my 2018 CT6 2.0E plug-in was in for service at Preston Cadillac in Burton, Ohio, and they could not charge it. I looked on plug share and there was charging stations near the city.
It seems to be hit or miss from my experience in Northeast Ohio. Some dealerships have both, some have just one or the other, it’s a bit inconsistent. I was hoping with the new EVs, they’d have more charging options at their showrooms. How did you like CT6 PHEV? - Brandan
Guys, I have come to the conclusion that Chevrolet truly could care less about “ customer service”. I’m into my second Bolt and anything I have got has been like putting teeth. I knew about the recall 2 months before the letter and I ended up asking about the buy back. But like you I enjoy the car inspire of the company. Will I keep the car or move on? I have yet to decide.
We love the car, but we would like to get into something newer. The MSRP Swap would allow us to redo our finances for that car and be in a better spot with a better payment. - Tyler
Hey guys - great review and appreciate the honesty! My wife and I just ordered a new Bolt EUV - we likely won't see it for 6 months or so but we are patient. I suspect a lot of the issues you have had will be dealt with in the next generation of EV from Chevy. I think GM has done a pretty good job of designing the Bolt and bringing the first EV with a decent range at an affordable price. Oh and the dog stains on the seats are solved with a leather interior....or seat covers! 😁 Thanks again for the video. Mike 🇨🇦 🍁 👍
Hey Mike, Thanks for the comment and congrats on your EUV! I agree with you, GM really stepped it up with the refreshed Bolt EV And the Bolt EUV in terms of quality and materials. Driving one a few months back made me jealous that I didn’t hold out haha. What color did you order? I love the blue interior. Keep us posted when it arrives, we really appreciate you taking the time to watch and support Everyday EV! 😁⚡️ - Brandan
@@EverydayEV Hey Brandan We wanted the Cherry Red Tintcoat...and went with the Sun and Sound package as we wanted the Sun roof. I retired a year and a half ago and my better half retires in April of 2024 so we figured we would order exactly what we wanted in a vehicle. The Tesla was too expensive to justify (although seems to be a great car) the Hyundai Ionic is way to Techy for me with the big screen with everything on that. The Bolt just feels like a normal car with some tech features! The VW ID4 is too far away for delivery in Canada but it seems pretty cool! Have a great day and will let you know what we think of it once it is sitting in our garage! Mike 🇨🇦 🍁 👍
I don’t believe they have. I’ve actually stopped driving it further than what I need to on a daily basis since we have the ID.4 now. Makes long distance driving a lot easier! 😁 hope you’re doing well, Will! - Brandan
I'm curious. Have you guys experienced creaking noises from the suspension when you turn the steering wheel or uneven road surface at slow speeds? Thanks for the video.
Hey Ron, thanks for the question! We experience that once after the Bolt had been sitting for a few days, but haven’t since. I wasn’t entirely sure why it made that sound. Is your Bolt making that sound? -Brandan
@@EverydayEV Yes, a '20 with 3200 miles. dealer says it's a ball joint. Two weeks still waiting for the part. A lot of Bolts have this issue according to the Chevy Bolt Forum. Sometimes it's the tie rod ends or sway bar links.
I have heard about these issues before, but I always thought it Plagued the earlier builds. That’s not good it’s doing it under 5,000 miles 😳 - Brandan
considering that there is a good possibly that the new recompilation bill will create a 12.5K refundable credit that applies to the 2022 bolt...... I am seriously considering switching from my 05 Camry to a 22 bolt (considering that it could cost less than 20K after the refundable tax credit).
I disagree with your saying it's slow in charging DC, It's really good. But I am old and need more bathroom breaks. I have a 2020 Bolt EV LT, not fancy but gets the job done. Oh I also have over 20K miles on it. Every other weekend I have to drive about 280 miles round trip. Which starts with a basic over night charge (currently to 90%) Then once at the location 140 miles there, I do the pickup and charge on a DC fast charger back to around 85%, highest I have gotten is around 44Kwh, which takes it about 35 to 40 minutes. It is actually good for me as I get to eat lunch and do my business. Overall great, kinda have had to change the wipers more then I would like, and have needed to do at least one Wheel alignment already. I rotate tires at 5K always. I am not doing a buy back. But hopefully if the current government comes through with the EV incentives, I just might in Jan swap it out to the EUV. Waiting on the Battery swap or what ever they decide. I feel it's far safer then any ICE out there.
I've actually been to Tesla Superchargers in our Model 3 that are only 50-60 kw. It's not too bad and made me realize a Bolt would be totally fine for us. We bought one yesterday.
I want to buy this car but right now with the battery recall is it even possible to buy one? And if it is possible should I maybe just wait until the replacement of the batteries is done?
You can certainly find used Bolts all across the country! I do know any Chevy dealer will not sell them currently, but CarMax, Carvana, and Vroom seem to have them in great supply. If you do buy now, you’ll still get notified when the battery replaced for that car will be available. It’s definitely a great buy used if you don’t mind waiting for the battery replacement. - Tyler
with replacements for battery coming you guys may want to hold off getting buy back, new battery will give a nearly new car , there for higher price on resale
I’m not sure if the resell would be any better after the battery replacement , but that is yet to be determined once it is completed. For us, this is just an opportunity to re-configure our finances with this car and an opportunity to move into a new car instead. We still love it, but would like something newer! - Tyler
I know this isn't overview but I have to comment. I love my Chevy bolts that means I have more than one I actually have two of them the same year 2019. They're the best car and I mean best car I have ever owned I won't BMW I own Mercedes I've owned five Mini coopers all brand new each car and this was the best car I ever owned can you believe it. And about your stains come on you shouldn't even comment about that you should put a seat cover on it when you carry your dog everybody knows that that should not have been in the video. But anyway I find nothing wrong with my Chevy bolt I got my new batteries and both cars they're better they're fast and they're perfect to have over 85,000 mi on my car and guess what no oil changes either. What more do you want. And they're cheap and I mean cheap with the new tax rebates oh my goodness they're cheaper than a gas car. So buy a Chevy bolt
Appreciate you taking the time to watch and leave a comment on our video! I agree, we LOVED our Bolt when we had it and are highly considering another one as the value is just incredible. We have made note about the stained seats and having a dog cover haha
We have a 2020 Premiere. It has been mechanically perfect. We have had no problems at all. None. Charging is a non-issue since we do all charging at home. We have two other cars that are used for road trips. The only complaint is a rattle in the dash plastic. The car definitely uses cheap materials, but that is expected is a car that only cost us $25k after rebates, incentives and tax credits. This was our "starter EV". We didn't want to spend a lot as we did not know if an EV would work for us. It turns out that we love it so much that we will probably keep it forever. Still waiting for our battery replacement, though I have no concerns at all about driving it as is.
Thanks for your comment Billy! Our Bolt was our secondary EV too, so we only used it around town, for the dog park, and a few longer trips. It was a great buy for the price and what we needed it for. I know a lot of people are waiting on their battery replacements, so hopefully that comes soon! We just wanted a bigger car with better technology and with faster charging. Really the only reason why we sold our Bolt. Still recommend to others! - Tyler
The recall really put a stop to me wanting this car. They aren’t really sure if it really was the battery causing the fires or something else. At least from what I researched it seems to me they just decided to change the batteries. And the seat is trying to tell you something if it breaks 😏lol…not a good sign!! Sorry had to go there too easy lol.
Hi, thank you for your comment! I might have had a slip of the tongue when I was talking charging because I agree that there is such thing as level 3! dc Fast charging could be anywhere from 25kW - 350kW+, which is a lot of wiggle room if you call it “level 3”. This is why we follow the Chargeway approach of colors and numbers to describe charging ⚡️😁 - Brandan
I own a CitiCar. I also own a Chevy Bolt EUV. The Chevy Bolt EUV is the winner, hands DOWN! (Seriously, I do own both, and your comment holds about the same merit) LOL An orange is an orange and an apple is an apple, don't try to compare them. SMH
Dear followers!! Don't let the beautiful pictures confuse you . Anyone who buys a new car from GENERAL Motors the chance you threw your money into the trash is very large. In this company there is no customer service, the company's management does not care at all, if you have a problem or a malfunction, you can only pray to God there is a chance that the help will come faster. GM is a very dangerous company, be careful and keep your money safe.!!!👎👎👎👎👎😬👎😬👎👎Share so more people don't get screwed.GM is a big bluf
Thanks for your comment Paul! Yes there are plenty of gas options at $20K, but there are also some great EV options at the $20-30K mark as well (Leaf, Bolt, Mini Cooper just to name a few). It all depends on personal preference and what fits your needs the best to make the best choice for you.- Tyler
Gas cars are unhealthy because they pollute the air with every mile (times millions), EVs do not. You can care or not care about the air we all breathe.
