Loved Zion’s message of why we collect games: to play them. Sometimes I get so caught up in what I have and don’t have that I ignore turning on consoles. Great video man!
"How did you achieve all of this?" "I spent money!" But in all seriousness, that's a cool collection. Lots of good tips. Buy what you like and enjoy them. That's my retirement plan too. Live comfortably in a nice home with a game room.
Not the joy- cons tho, I feel like in 900 years when we start having the retro love for the switch , we'll all advise having a pro controller, a bit like the wii
@@choppiemcdonald maybe you're right about the joy cons but I think a lot of people must have their wii sensor set up wrong because the only times I ever have problems with the wiimote is if the game was designed by some shovelware slag
@@fritzthecat8158 i have mine blue tacked to the top of my tv, and the only time i have issues is when the blue tack gives out. What I meant by that was the fact that motion controlls shoe-horned into a game with a perfectly good button format normally have people reccommend the easier, less waggle intensive format
My most precious game in my collection, is a sealed copy of Chrono Trigger for DS. I bought it several years ago when the demand for games in general were very low. It cost me like USA $30 back then
I bought Chrono Trigger for the DS used years ago. Just because I had heard so much about the game and wanted to give it a go. Found it for around $20. And now, just complete in box, it's up to $85. Smart (lucky) investment by me.
When you showed Pokemon Crystal without motherboard, I immediately thought about my Pokemon Gold cartridge. It has no label. I thought that no one would be interested in such a cartridge, but perhaps someone is looking for a board out there. The reason why it has no label is really stupid. I bought the game (boxed) for 10 € when I was 10 (about 12 years ago). My only other GBA game had no box and no label (I don't know how or why that label was removed but I got the GBA when I was 5 so probably stupidity). So my 10-year old logic was to remove the label and throw away the box so they would be aesthetically on the same page. Worst decision in my life, even as a kid I started regretting it.
I enjoyed this video so much. I’m also a collector. Not of the same magnitude your collection is beautiful and I got second hand excitement and joy from this.
I think my funniest collecting story is when I found JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure on the PS1 CIB for about $4 at a goodwill (ofc I bought it), that same week I went to a used game store and saw it for almost $500
Man, this was a great pick-me-up for my day. Seeing your passion for collecting and talking about video games is so inspiring and joyful. Thanks for sharing and keep up the amazing work.
heart warming video i really enjoyed, its what i always tell people who want to start collecting games. collect what you love and will play not because of the value of price but for the what it means to you.
Yep. I thought a CIB copy of Chibi Robo for $60 use to be a bit much only a few years back but I jumped on it anyway. Now its worth right around $200 lol.
@@ians_parks i actually love the GC Chibi Robo example if ppl talk about price Increasing. I startet Sealed collecting at the end of GC times and most of the Games was very cheap to get 5-20€. So got Mario Sunsine for 14€, Fire Emblem for 15€, Paper Mario for 20€ and Chibi Robo for just 5€. Noone wanted Chibi Robo. And now? You can not even get the Disk only for 5€ anymore even if it's scratched. Thinking back, you had an easy way to buy a stack of Sealed Chibi Robo Games and you are able to sell it today to get other Games for it. But well, as a collector, you are happy if you have the Game once. Fun fact about my collecting style: i actually paid more for the Games i played as later buying them sealed. With the Sealed 14€ Mario Sunshine comes one open one that i bought on release for 39€^^
Don’t tell anybody else but you’re my favorite Nintendo life content creator Zion! I don’t collect the games themselves but I have started collecting soundtracks (starting with Ace Combat)
the best part of collecting sadly is dying, nothing compared to go out to your local flea market and find pure gold in the wild, a family vacation and randomly a wild rare game at the bargain bin in a random shop, now its ebay or bust
people have gotten a lot smarter and more often then not seem to know exactly what they have and what it’s worth. it has been way harder to find crazy deals in the past couple years
I remember when i used to collect. You wouldn't believe how relieving it was to sell it all. No more backlog, no more wishlist, no more mediocrity or things i didnt personally enjoy in my stash. I used to be a hoarder and I couldnt have picked a better time to sell. Emulation is always an option. And you dont need every game youve ever liked. Thats just my experience at least
@Zane Dube True. I had over 80 GameCube games in the early 2000's. Gave them, and the console, to a family in my neighborhood and went all-digital after that. Physical is GREAT for families with multiple Switches, but I'd be annoyed if I had all that in my living space.
When Zion first appeared on Nintendo Life, I yelled ‘who are you?!?!?’ in the comments and he replied that he was Zion and he was new and it really soothed me. I don’t think I would have accepted him without it so I’m glad it happened 😊
Excellent video! I too, have been building my collection back. Love the part about collecting to also play, I always play my games, and regularly still go back and play my older console such my NES.
Your collection is awesome and your amazing! I don't see myself building a huge collection, but I have been pushing myself since I got my switch to try games I wouldn't normally play to try and expand my horizons, and while I love the online store, I push my self to buy physical versions of my core games. I actually have some digital games that I purchased that I ended up really loving and am bummed that I didn't get a physical copy because now I can't loan to a friend so they can try a game they wouldn't normally try. Thanks for sharing your awesome collection and inspiring others!
I am also an avid game collector, and I have been trying to decide how to store/display my loose gameboy/gba games and I really love how you do it. Also, great collection!!
I don't collect video games but Zion talks about it with such enthusiasm and he's such a nice guy I could listen to him talk about game collecting for hours :)
I don't have many regrets in life, but one is that I held a near-mint condition copy of Chrono Trigger DS in my hand, but decided not to buy it. It was $20 (2 years ago).
I don't collect games, but I do collect books. When I first got into games, I spoke with someone who did have a game collection, and his stress over different box sizes, different cover art, the lack of care people take over boxes, the struggle over finding something specific, the importance of the system on the shelves...I have never connected to someone so instantly before. It felt really good. The main key, I think, is to decide how much something is worth to you personally and then never pay more than that, no matter what the going market price is: that's always been the way I've done it with books.
Zion got all of the games from every consoles platforms now this is most gaming collection I have ever seen but it might take alot more games to catch up with some youtubers like Guinness World Records, HappyConsoleGamer, MetalJesusRocks etc. Btw Outstanding and Awesome video keep up the great work. - Daniel Of Duty
Man, your DS collection looks really good. I only just started looking into it (as I always used an M3Simply cart) and man the prices have gone up and the library has a lot of crackers to try out
I really felt this. I have a massive collection, even more then this as well as every amiibo complete in box thats ever came out in the USA and I plan on just playing everything when I retire haha hopefully my hand/eye coordination is still good then lol
To be honest I watched to see your collection but I stayed for the content. I really agree with having a “I want to play” pile. I do that too. I also have a “currently playing” pile as well. Just to make sure I don’t forget about a game I started.
Solid collection dude!!! I regret not keeping any of my gaming stuff, pre WII. and my wii stuff isn't even with me. What I do have is all my 3DS/DS, and GBA, as well as all my Switch stuff, which I've accumulated allot of 3DS titles, and I've got 20+ switch games Wait...I think I still have FF IX, and Xenogears, and maybe the 2 compilation final fantasy games for ps1. I lucked out, I think and grabbed Dragon Quest 8, Majors Mask, A Link Between Worlds, and Triforce Heroes, 3DS ports/titles, for less than $50, a piece. I've been grabbing up 3DS games, before they inevitably get way expensive. However, some I know I'll have no time to play...:(
I get it. I also sometimes feel the urge to collect. But on the other hand collecting does seem to be deeply irrational. We got into games because we loved playing them, right? Not because we enjoyed collecting pretty looking pieces of plastic.
It's more to do with having a tangible thing to hold I guess, I love digital and of course games in general but having a proper thing to hold for games you love
Everything is sooo expensive because you have these people that think their loose copy of mario and duck hunt is worth thousands of dollars since a scam website said they sold it for 100k. It really peeves me off
I'm a young collector (going into highschool) I'd love to be there someday but I just dont have the money😂 I have a decent collection spanning from nes to switch! If anyone has tips for collecting on a budget or going without a car I'd love to hear!!
Dope video. Love collecting games. Love playing them myself as well as alongside my kids/gf/family. Always fun, ton of great memories for 30+ years and counting.
Really cool collection, and great advice. Collecting can become a bad habit and consume your time. Also part of the fun is the chase, and finally getting to enjoy the game. That's why I like gamepass, I get to try new games and then buy a physical copy on sale of games I wana support. My collection is xbox 360/ oneX/series X. Playstation 4 and switch exclusives.
I wish I kept all my old copies of games. I was one of those kids that traded/sold my games in to get newer games. Especially old Pokemon games. I had sealed copies of Ruby and Emerald. Even with a job that pays good money, I can't bring myself to pay $300 for a CIB copy of Pokemon.
I have a nice little collection for Switch and smaller still for 3DS. It's really fun with the collectors editions (especially the past few Fire Emblem games :D ) and all the Amiibo. I mostly just stick to series that i really like or something I'm hyped to try.
I made a list a few months ago, with ebay sold average price, and it has helped me not make unnecessary game pickups and focus on the ones I really want, and consolidate my collection to help purchase ones id actually play
Hey man awesomw vid you have made, i am also a big collector. maybe i can give you a tip. i even buy protector boxes for all my games. so they do not collect dust. i see you did it already with older games like Banjo Kazooie (where i am a big fan of to and Rare :D ) hope you read my tip of someone from Nintendo Life will tell you it. again awesome video and massive succes with your collection.
I wish I'd have acquired the collectors mindset sooner. So many games that I used to have and have probably lost bits and pieces of. For example, I have the boxes for Heart Gold/Soul Silver in mint condition, but the Pokewalkers are who knows where and if I recall one of the cartridges is missing. I don't have much retro stuff at all really, but this makes me more interested in picking some of it up. I want to find Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories for the GBA. That would be cool to own.
I recently started hunting down alot of gamecube games i grew up with im happy with the ones that were remade so its alot easier to share them with friends but right now its like I'm only missing Billy Hatcher and the viewtiful Joe games i bit the bullet for billy hatcher and go it for almost 100 bucks but viewtiful joe 1 2 and rumble complete get alittle out of hand when you see it going for 35 but the case looks mangled with a ripped cover then 70 for the complete thing theres just no in between
The GameStop that was closest to me closed down last year and I was lucky enough to grab a game I wasn't really into at the time, that I thought was just another random title, from the counter for like $10... It was Monster Hunter Stories for 3DS.
I have so many games in storage and I'm looking forward to getting a hope so I can do something like this with them. Currently almost 200 Switch games and I've put the more valuable ones in collectible cases to protect them.
I group mine by gameplay-style similarity. Then I sort them in chronological order by series, and alphabetical order for others. For games that seem to be in multiple gameplay styles, I place those on the front of the collection if the games grouped in front of the group it's in is similar to it in some ways, or it goes to end of its group if the following group's genre is more similar. If both sides are equally correct, then randomly choose one side. If I can't make up my mind, choose the first choice, in this case, the beginning of the group.
Based on the big shelf, you have: 23 WiiU games 65 3DS games 76 GC games 88 Wii games 108 Switch games 447 NDS games!!!! (clearly your fav) (+others) Yes, I counted.
I used to collect a whole lot more Games for my PS2 and PS3 consoles back in my whole 2000’s adolescence to my early 20’s in the early 2010’s, as well as a lot more Handheld Games for my GBA, DS, and PSP too📚. But of course my game collecting habit started to slow down in my 8th Gen Gaming years, since I’ve collected only two to three few new games at a time since I could only play my PS4 games on my older brother’s PS4 console as long as I’m playing my PS4 games on the PS4 guest profile that my older brother made for me, and I’ve played a couple of my PS4 games on occasions on my brother’s PS4 Console only when he’s out of the house attending to his work at his workplace🏋🏻♂️, and I’ve collected a couple of Handheld games my 3DS and PSVITA handheld consoles from time to time on those special occasions but not as many games for my 3DS, PSVITA, or even as many PS4 games for myself to play on my older brother’s PS4 console etc since then⏰. But when my longtime kid neighbor👦🏼 and his family got me and my mom into the Nintendo Switch console and it’s motion control Wii exercise like capabilities by doing our dance exercise together on the Switch Version of a Just Dance game two years ago🕺💃, I fell in love with the idea of owning a Switch console so much, that I decided to put a Nintendo Switch Console into my Christmas list on December 2019🎄 despite the fact that only came out two years in 2017🥳 before I decided to own a Switch Console of my very own, and despite the other fact that my Switch gaming years had only just begun around the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic😷, I’ve started collecting a lot of Digital and Physical games for my Switch console a whole lot more than I ever did in a very longtime since my PS2/PS3 Collective Gaming Years in the 2000’s and early 2010’s, that I also started playing as many Classic and Nostalgic Indie games on the Switch that I realized I’ve missed out on throughout the whole 8th Video Game Generation so much since I’ve only played a small couple of Indie Games on certain gaming platforms in my possessions that I was ever able to play some of them on, like my iPhone and iPad devices, as well as some on my 3DS and PSVITA on occasions throughout the 8th Video Game Generation over the whole 2010’s, that owning a Switch Console had made me realize that I had a whole lot of indie games, remastered classics, as well as a lot of 3rd party and Nintendo Franchises to catch up with these days🤩. I’ve even collected some distinct Switch controllers of impressive design style choices such as the Jamswell streamlined designed JoyCon Set to go along with my main blue and red JoyCons, including a Ralthy Pro Controller at a good low price that works well for classic controller play styles as well, I also have a CFOWARD Pro Controller🎮 that I got a low price, but it’s also been difficult to connect that to my Switch console that I looked around the button details and realized that it seriously lacked a Sync Button, I looked at the manual, telling me that I have to connect that CFOWARD pro Controller to my Switch console by pressing and holding the home button for five seconds, and it’s sometimes worked a little for me of course, but after seeing how the Ralthy Pro Controller brand connects to the Switch better than the CFOWARD brand that I decided that I’ll give it away to one of my Cousins who happened to have become Switch Console owners like me too since I indirectly got em’ into the Switch Gaming lifestyle😎. But just to finish this lengthy comment here already due to making lengthy novelistic comments being my Longtime Eccentric force of habit for over ten years since I got into some social media platforms in the whole 2010’s back then😅: I’ve even decided to put an SNES Legacy style wireless Pro Controller into my Christmas list I started making in the Notes app on my iPhone a month ago on July, like the Christmas in July summer cultural expression😂, get it🤣? Because I already remember how my Gaming Childhood started with an SNES console that I started playing my games on for the first time at the early age of 2 years old at that time👶🏻, and it would be a wonderful nostalgic blast to play today’s games with an SNES style Game Controller again🥲. Oh and I also like using iMessage Emojis in my long lengthy comments and replies like Bookmarks🔖 just to give anyone reading this, a reading chance to skip through some long sentences just to get to any point that anyone would like to read down at anyway, if anyone using a non Apple computer or device can actually see iMessage style emojis hopefully so that is🧐.
