I have actually watched in real time as Dondi himself banned random people in chat on a whim despite them not actually breaking any rules, this was before I myself got bamned too for a stupid reason
I got banned for saying that the devs should stop making random dumbass decisions that nobody asked for (such as camera lock or the stupid camera system they were trying to do). Granted I was a bit nasty in the way I said it but I still don’t regret it.

A big problem with the stat buffs for Herd commander would be that a lot of people in the herd might attempt to kill the herd commander to revieve those buffs for themselves.
As a casual Dryo and Hypsi player, having a herd mechanic would do many wonders! Not saying it only benefits those of course. All in all, splendid idea!

The night vision and smellovision range choices for all the dinos feels so random and arbitrary, like, i completely understand and agree with the choice to have the diablo be as stunted in both categories as it is, but everything else feels so random. As a baseline, herbivores should have better movement detection and hearing, while carnivores can see further more clearly, have a better sense of smell (good at tracking), but not have amazing hearing unless they hunt small game specifically, or have predators of their own to worry about. Given that sight range isnt a feature in the game during the daytime, while smell range is all the time, and smell is a sightbased UI thing, why is night vision as bad as it is for most dinos? It just doesnt make sense that a crocodile should be able to see and smell further, even while out of water, than most herbivores. Idk
Fun things about being a herbivore is that you don’t know when will you die. You constantly have to fear for your life because you could get eaten by some predator, although if your a trike (lets say) your still going to have to fear because there could be packs of rexes stocking you so that why i like and dont like playing as a herbi
I feel like giving herbies a buff when in herds would make hunting herds as anything but a apex harder then it already is. Yes it should be hard but not impossible. Buffing herbivore players would be unnecessary for most decent sized herbies that can defend themselves in herds as is, like dibble. I do agree herd mechanics would be cool and should be added to make herbies more interesting, but i don't think just buffing them should be the answer, at least not in the way you said for every herbie. Being in a herd is supposed to increase your survivability and give predators a harder time hunting you, just being in the herd does everything the buff would do to help you. If you were able to find carnivores just by being the oldest in the group on top of being in a herd, there would be little chance for anything that can't just over power the entire herd to hunt you
The leader of a Herd should probably recieve a growth speed and max size bonus, to make keeping the role desirable even for players that just wanna grow big, as well as a bonus to nesting for the leading pair. Additionally sparring or duelling could give the winner a temporary additional bonus to stats or growth, which would be taken from the loser. This would also prevent the loser from immediately challenging the winner again. Also i think a herd cohesion or dependency mechanic could be great, in which players who newly join a herd or just left it for example by getting chased out would have slight difficulties adjusting to the new living conditions they find themselves in. This could come in the form of a growth malus when joining a herd and a food and water drain rate malus when leaving. This herd cohesion would also be affected by other species joining the group, which formally allows mixed species herding while giving maluses to the whole herd if its too mixed.
A stress system would be able to control player behavior a lot especially in the case of herbivores since you can just make herbivores feel less stress when in a large group compared to carnivores. It would also allow for a bunch of other cool mechanics to come to the game. I remember that the devs once said they would add it but I guess it has been lost to dondi's dementia
depending how how stress effects a creature will either make or break the game, Sense if the stress mechanic is unfun and makes the game more annoying to play then it js ruins the experience :/
@@Adaptibility I have suggested this mechanic on the official discord. Apperently it is full of holes that could be abused. As they said: "If theres something to be abused, someone will abuse it."
On paper it sounds good, but it sucks. I've played games with stress mechanics and most of the time I died cause I was alone (Need pack mates) or I died in a fight because of the stress doing extra damage.
@@anicronyx2313 Yeah, unlike people abusing the lack of a stress system by mixpacking different dinos and even carnivores. This is imo a case where the cure is in fact NOT worse than the illness it is meant to cure(among other things) but for some reason a lot of people seem to be very protective of the ability to mixpack.

I am ofc talking about surgery, I have read and seen the news of people getting stabbed and dying so obviously surgery is a very bad thing and we should never do it. Point I am making is that anything and everything can suck if the implementation is sucky. While I can understand the reason you would immediately assume the devs would make a sucky implementation of a stress system that is no reason to assume the idea of a stress system is bad.
Despite wishing all herbivore players a very unpleasant intercontinental ballistic missile strike, herbivores are (mostly) very fun to play. I love the concept of the herds, grazing and interacting with each others and all, but after some time, it just becomes very boring and repetitive. I honestly don't know if theres a way to make them unrepetitive, even though more and more features are added to the mechanic.
I’ll say as someone who doesn’t play the isle due to being a console player but I do enjoy watching the isle and content around it but as a outside source I love playing a carnivore in path of titans but if I could play the isle I’d be a carnivore but stuff that this man mentioned would have me playing both due to the ability of social aspect and the leader ship and fighting/sparing for ranks in the herd would make more players play herbs on the side
Massive copium my dude. Given the Isle Devs turn around time, enhanced mechanics like this might JUST take place before the heat death of the universe, but I do admit it is fun to speculate.
I think herd buffs like strength and stuff As well as a festure called species scent, this is a manually turned on thing where other players of your species can smell you out and herd with you
I have never shown my face on the isle discord and I’m not going too. If I did I would be banned for my opinions as soon as a dev saw them as they are rather negative about dondi in specific and his failure to manage the project as a whole.
Interesting and timely video, the herd commander mechanic is a great idea to explore, herding does need a boost, if more play herb and enjoy it, it will naturally improve carnivore gameplay as well, anyway really enjoyed this ideas focused video
I love these Ideas but Goldfish gave you ever seen a herd in evrima? Personly I only see large groups of stegos once every month cause they always just grief other herbis trying to join and the other herds of herbis just get murdered by a pack of carnos.
In the last couple weeks of playing the isle before i quit, i barely saw herbivores in general aside from stegos. Literally 90% of the active servers are carnivores, the devs do not seem interested in solving this problem at all, part of the reason i left.
Superlunary bans people for absolutely no reason, i had seen her ban people for telling innocent jokes, she got on someone’s ass over them joking “magyarosaurus will be brachiosaurus sized”, claiming they were spreading misinformation. Absolute trash admin, wouldn’t be surprised if she banned you over something so minor that you couldn’t remember
At the very least, “social” herbivores should be able to group with other social herbivores, or certain herbivore and omnivore species should be able to group together. Example being all hadrosaurs being able to group with each other, smalls like dryo or hypsi being able to group with any herbivore, gallimimus being able to group with certain herbivores, but dominant herbivores like triceratops would only be able to group with others of its kind aside from small tiers.
The main problem with herbivores comes from the carnivore side of the diet system, since they can thrive off of eating other carnivores people are less likely to try to hunt the usually stronger herbivores. This is why the hotspots like South Plains stay crowded even when it's not the migration zone. The devs need to update the diets system to make Carnivores prefer hunting Herbivores, thus making Herbivore gameplay more interesting. Plus diets need to change completely anyway because it's not fun or realistic it's just a chore, like why do I need to kill more than one thing to get a perfec diet ? Iirc they made it this way so people can customize their diets for their playstyle but they completely removed by making all 3 diets give every diet buff. I think they should change it so that herbivores in your prefered prey list give you all 3 diets, herbivores that are not your prefered prey give you only one of the 3 (besides organs, they should stay as they are) and carnivore bodies should give no nutrients outside of organs or give very very little of it, like not enough to be reliable but enough to keep you alive. This way Carnivores are way more likely to go after Herbivores which makes them more fun than they are right now, it makes them more likely to form herds to defend themselves from the increased carnivore threat.
The only thing i would change about this idea is not making it a full on overall change to each carnivore, with some like cera preferring both carnis and herbis. And ofc adjusting it to where maybe creatures like rex will prefer specifically giga n maybe spino on its diet for the carnis, sense they are rexes biggest competition and getting its diet out of them as well will help with apex population control n such
@@No_name8374 Ah right, yea Cera and also Deino should still be able to benefit from eating other carnivores, though I think they should still prefer herbivores a little bit. But when it comes to apexes eating each other I am completely against it, because it will do nothing but help the apex population grow out of control. It would be much better if apexes are specially discouraged from eating each other so we don't have a server full of them, the number of apex carnivores should depend on the number of large herbivores. This is why I think apexes shouldn't be cannibalistic or eat other apex carnivores, so if everyone is playing an apex carnivore, they all have debuffs and no diets. Honestly even organs shouldn't save them. Apexes are supposed to be powerful so they shouldn't be so easy to grow and sustain.

@@No_name8374 I mean wouldn't the limited amount of resources be enough ? If I'm a Rex and I see a Giga, I'd still kill it to keep more herbivores to myself, because if he eats them then I starve. Plus apexes will be miserable until they get to adulthood anyway, because the other carnivores also other apexes will want to eliminate competition and herbivores will want to eliminate threats early on.

Cuz even at the adult stage if there are no apex herbis around n u get nothing out of kill other apexe carnis apart from basic food, then that’s kinda js a bit miserable to go through :/ It makes the experience more hard but hard in the unfun out of your control kinda wayy, which I personally dislike.
I think as long as systems like these just encourage certain behaviour and don't limit player freedom very much then I guess it is nice. I just hope it isn't too much like for example the diet update, as that mechanic is implemented in a not very fluid, natural way if you know what I mean and it limits player freedom by a lot in my opinion.
Love the idea! I had my own idea for diets or food in general, which was mushrooms that could give temporary effects like better nutrient absorbtion or better bleed resistance, but there would also be poisonous ones that players would have to distinguish (i dunno how). Or letting juvies eat the honey of bees for food and maybe temporary faster regen at the cost of getting a little stung.
I also had a diet suggestion for herbivores and carnivores alike that i put in the official discord feedback, but since i’ve been banned i don’t know if it’s there anymore. Personally i think it was much more engaging than the dog shit diet system they have now

I try think mechanics specifically for herbivore groups would definitely be great. If AI could also use/respond to things like the targeting you mentioned that’d be great. Also just making there be a lot more ai herbivores would really up the liveliness of the map, while also giving carnivores more to hunt and herbivores more friendlies.
Throwing more herbivore AI in the game is just a band-aid that doesn’t solve any actual problems, it’s pretty much saying “we give up”. The social aspect of the game is the only thing herbivores had going for them in legacy, now in evrima they have pretty much stripped that away, just telling herbi players to hang out with AI would basically just be openly admitting they don’t care about that part of the playerbase. (Which they clearly don’t anyway)
My main issue with this is that evrimas huge roster will make finding other dinos of the same species extremely difficult unless server population is massively increased.

Needless to say this is a great idea. It actually tackles something that I've dreaded with The Isle specifically and that's carnivore bias, giving herbivores basically the same boons as carnivores but just through different methods I think is a really great idea. One of the reasons I feel as to why people don't often play herbivore is because there just isn't anything to do. As it stands now, the herbivore's job is to just kinda... sit there until they get attacked, there is no real benefit for herbivores to go on the offensive so they need something to help them in interacting through combat with other players and herd masters are a good way to do it. Maybe a good mechanic to add to for apex herbivores is exile of the old herd master after they've lost command. I see this as a cooldown for the loser making them unable to group up for an eluded time, basically stopping them from doing so and forcing them to move on alone. This mechanic would help solo carnivore players get meals without running into an entire herd with still some level of difficulty. On top of that, it could be used by carnivore players in the way of following herds until a dispute is inevitably going to occur and the loser is a perfect prize for their patience and stealth. Too bad this isn't an official idea and the players of The Isle aren't the only people in the community that have carnivore bias.
The devs purposefully give carnivores all the unique niches in the game, herbivores get jack shit. Want to swim? Carnivore/omnivore. Want to fly? Carnivore. Want to climb? Carnivore. Want to be fast? Carnivore/omnivore. Want to be nocturnal? Carnivore. Want to not be restricted to 2 acres of land to get your diet? Carnivore. Want to get strains? Carnivore Want actually useful combat mutations? Carnivore Want to be forced to stay in a hotspot for your diet where megapacks can easily pick you off? Herbivore. Want to be slower than your predators? Herbivore Want to play something the dev team doesn’t even hide their bias against? Herbivore
If I see a big herbivore herd I'm definitely avoiding it cause there is 90% chance that they are cannibals... Also herding would be more fun if there were more ways of interactions with another species instead of just 2 calling a few times, spinning, jumping (if you can) and thats it. You can't even warn them of the danger properly - 3 call will make them confused or angry at you and 4 call... who even uses 4 call in this game?
Any thoughts on f calls? Saw somebody complain that they shouldnt be forced to make noise when chatting since people can instead use discord which gives them a huge advantage in stealth. Obviously it does punish solo players and not friend groups but I dont think theres any way to remedy that short of removing forced f calls which most would agree is a much worse decision.
I hope The Isle gets a battle Royale mode, It would be similar to the battle Jurassic World Evolution 2 battle royale videos that RU-vidrs love making, the only differences are, their are no hatchery’s, and you are the dinosaurs. Imagine that!!
It's okay, Goldfish, getting banned from the discord server is a right of passage these days. I got banned a few years ago for warning people about a giant group of cannis on one of the servers. Didn't name names, didn't location drop, just said "hey lots of cannis on na2, be careful guys". BANNED, no warning xD

Diablos aren’t op at all, a decently skilled cerato can easily hunt them, raptor packs as well. I guess carnivore players get upset when they can’t just oneshot steamroll any herbivore like a jurassic world evolution matchup, any herbivore that bas a chance of defending itself is “op” 🙄
@@AgentMercer i mean this is from me playing dibble. Nothing can stop us my friend and i beat two fg cera as 30% dibbles. The knock down is op with a broken hitbox. The main threat has been canni dibbles and speed hacking stego armies

Seems like a bad idea mostly for balancing reasons. Just feels like a win more mechanic when herds are already more optimal than solo play. I think alpha mechanics should only be on the table for animals that specialize in group play. For example, small group focused animals like troodon, velociraptor, or protoceratops. Animals that don't really specialize like corythosaurus or maiasaura might also be appropriate for it. I think the real way to fix herbivores is to add quality ai predators that can challenge herbivores when players arent around.
So, since herbivores are already outnumbered by carnivores in any active server 10/1, your solution is to add carnivore AI that can attack the herbivore players? You’re tripping, bruh.
@@AgentMercer ideally both carnivore and herbivore AI get added but it's carnivore ai that will make herbivores fun again. When herbivores get more fun then more people will play them and the balance between carnivores and herbivores becomes more balanced.

They are already pretty much forced in to hotspots where they are constantly attacked by carnivore players and even fellow herbivores, but somehow also being attacked by AI would make things “fun again”? @@AgentMercer Bro why do you gotta attack my character because I don't agree with you. Chill out, we're just talking about a videogame. Getting attacked constantly only happens in hotspots. You go 5 minutes out of a hotspot, you could chill for hours without being attacked. And that's the ultimate part about herbivores. They aren't required to go to hotspots. You might lose your diet, but you can survive anywhere you want on the map. Herbivores aren't less popular because they are worse than carnivores. It's way easier to survive as a herbivore than a carnivore. The real reason herbivores don't get played is because they are boring to play. The only reason to play herbivores is so a carnivore tries to hunt you, and then you kill them instead. I don't want to rely on hotspots to get that engagement. I want the whole map to be fun, not a tiny part of it. Proper ai makes a night and day difference. Look at rain world for example. That game made an authentic biosphere using nothing but well made ai. I'm not saying that the isle needs to perfectly copy rainworld, but some things should be considered. If you want to have an authentic creature survival game, you should learn from the best. And it's not a question, the best creature survival game so far is rainworld.
I really wish they would place focus on mechanics like this instead of adding more dinos with certain ability mechanics. Don't get me wrong, I do love those, but I think the game is suffering because the core mechanics of the game haven't been touched in a very long time. The group system as is, is extremely buggy and sometimes borderline barely functional. The map could use more life to it and the game just generally needs more gameplay. While eldership will help this, that is simply an end goal. Not really something to do to pass time on your way to that goal. I don't know if development is in a place to actually shift focus to those things at this exact moment, but I do hope focus is shifted to these things extremely soon. I've stopped playing the game entirely because it is just so horrendously boring.
