What annoys me about Old style Westerns besides the obvious racism is the fact that they make the Native Americans look like utterly incompetent in battle tactics. The natives know what guns are, so seeing two men taking down a dozen natives with revolvers is very cringe.
This was done beautifully. I really enjoyed this brief look into overlooked histories of Natives. I highly recommend to anyone the Hulu series Reservation Dogs. Great series! Thank you again Crooked!
But, what point was she trying to make? That people are mean? That people do bad things? That modern humans have done bad things for their 80,000yr history? It was so vague. At one point I thought she was making the case that Country & Western movies have influenced government policy. What this really is, is outrage pawn (for the censors). It's been made so lefties can feel superior and go - "ooh, aren't white people bad" over and over.
I am a survivor who was parented under it and I was not even told I was looking up Government documents and found my Grand Mother had been. I am Metis I remember the discrimination we faced in the Day Schools...
I got the feeling the narrator wasn't a professional, but rather someone with deep knowledge of the subject matter (part of the community they are discussing). Sounded like a bit of a rez accent, but I could be wrong. The content was good enough to not be bothered by the narrator so much.
Obviously this is very well presented but poorly told. Crash Course Black History has the same problem where they've used a bona fide expert who is useless at reading a script. I run webinars for online courses and I see it happen all the time where I'll be talking to a lecturer who's effusive and engaging in conversation and then completely flat once they hit the script. Delivery like this, with clothes/furniture rustling through the whole thing and stumbled words kept in, will turn off people who aren't already invested. Pay the authority to write the script then pay a native VO to read it right
Still a lot of work to be done until Common Memory reigns - "Where Common Memory is lacking, where People do not share in the same past, there can be no real community. Where community is to be formed, Common Memory must be created." George Erasmus - Dene Elder. Let us Pray and Walk in Beauty towards that Day.
A lot has to be done, I'm for giving the land back in all honesty. Its better the land returns to the tribes that had it than go to some billionaire's pet project or turned into another dump.
Great content! Love this series. But I have to agree with what has already been, the VO is not the best. As others have mentioned I would rexommend finding a native american voice actor to read the script next time. Or perhaps repost the same video with a different VA.
Great video, great editing, great script! :) Too bad the narrator didn't think so - she sounds bored and is just speed-reading through the whole thing... :/ Still, keep 'em coming (just enunciate, FFS;)!
"the searchers" is a horrible n imoral movie from the begining until the end, no any single good moral lesson, no any single character atitude who worth, final dot. We native people from here southamerica already suffering a lot of, n no any native people deserves a rating like that, im brazilian with bolivian decendence n member from aymarah nation from Bolívia.
Cleveland Guardians is such a pathetic name. As with the R*dsk*ns, I'm not watching any of these teams, or giving them any money, until they change their names back. P.S. This "Crooked" history is oh so stupid.
Oof....couldn't fine anyone to do the voice over who sounds better than this person? Or did they just not bother. Next time, call me. I'm not a professional voice over artist but, I can do a MUCH better job that this person did.
Everyone like the voiceover recording? This is the result of progressing beyond merit and into race based hiring practices. Everyone can tell the recording is monotone and lifeless. But she got the job because she in a Indian. ( headdress, not dot. ) content of the video aside, the voiceover was unable on the professional world.
Hey Mr. Articulate, Maybe you should fix that last sentence so that it makes sense. Then and only then, can you criticize the narrator. On second thought, maybe just go ahead and leave. You are clearly in over your head here.
