What Happens in Hong Kong Today Could Affect the World as We Know It.
Think about it.
Hong Kong belongs to China. But Hong Kong prefers Democracy, rather than China’s authoritarian and centrally planned approach.
There have been anti-government demonstrations in Hong Kong since June 2019, with clashes between police and activists becoming increasingly violent.
Should China get ‘fed-up’ and decide to intervene militarily to squash the demonstrators, this could have grave consequences for the world as we know it today.
While we continue to consume Chinese goods in abundance (China exports over $2 Trillion), it is easy to forget the enormous human rights violations (including their treatment of their Uighur muslims - detaining one million in concentration-like camps).
However, if China takes a ‘high-handed’ approach to Hong Kong, for example with military force, it will be harder to ‘forgive and forget’. This could have dire consequences for the entire world system as we know it.
What does this mean for the world, for America, for Europe and small economies like Trinidad &Tobago?
Think about it.
