@@TimSzabo it didn't bend upward, he racked a bullet into it. So the barrel in this gun pushes up in the front when it racked a round in. Think the barrel stays straight but is cocked in comparison to the handle

It would be awesome if Mat had a 2 torso's per gun large enough to do damage so we could see the damage it does, and see what would be done unprotected. It would also illustrate the damage of caliber vs speed. Would like to see Matt put a torso point blank and one as far out as he can, bring a guest who can hit extreme long range, and see how they compare between calibers, say 556, 308, + at 1000, 1500, and up as far as they can.

I work in cardiovascular surgery so I have seen several gunshots and what they do to a healthy body but it is fascinating to see what an armored plate does.

As an EMT in the field the penetrating wounds looked fairly accurate to what we've had happen, but like he said I was watching to see how much energy was actually absorbed by the armor and how much was still transferred into the torso. Awesome video Matt!!!

Keep in mind, it would really depend on the muscle mass of an individual. Also, Live tissue is much more resilient than ballistic gel, this would be absolute worst case, as if a big toddler was wearing this...

@@DOA220 yeah plus no clothes to cushion the impact (wouldn't really help but counts for something), it being fixed in place so the bullet is not being able to transfer the momentum the target and the target itself being hit dead centre. Still it would fuck you up and probably quick way to being marked KIA unless it's a graze.

Also keep in mind the amount of pressure from the muzzel blast if a .50 bmg is insane. It would likely not have exploded like that if the barell wasnt inside the ballistic torso

There's a reason why big sticks (bo staffs, etc) were still heavily used during medieval times. Blunt force trauma gives no fucks if you're wearing a helmet, you'll still die from a good thwack.

Well, if it helps understand, high energy is what you see when a rifle bullet hits ballistics gel and you see the exciting impact, where these bullets are stopping on the plate is actually momentum at work Heavy slow bullets may have more momentum but less energy. If Matt used a 223 you would’ve actually seen less impact than the 9mm. The 500mag actually has about twice the momentum of the 308. Kicks being slower and legs being heavier, this also affects that, although they still have to be fast enough to break your ribs against the momentum of the rest of your body.

Unless the bullet penetrates the armor it can be as simple as feeling a thump all the way up to getting hit by a bat on steroids. Even with armor, a decent amount of rounds will still make you need a medic/hospital afterward.
