How I Access My Port 

As infusion nurse, I access ports all day long. So cool you can access your port at home. You do a good job keeping it clean and sterile

It helped me a lot watching your rabbit channel, but I didn't know this channel. I hope you are always healthy.

I found changing to a shorter needle (1"- 1/2" or 3/4" ) solved most of my tenting problems. Also I use the roll of dressings (not sterile) to secure/support the areas that the tubing tugs alot and instead of tape.

I think you need another smaller size on the length of your huber needle so it does not stick out so much. I am a RN for 21 years and I do have a port too. I use bard miniloc 20g x 3/4" and it does not stick oit much. The huber needle that you are using is bard safestep. And they do stick out more. Then you should try the sorba view mesdium or sorba view contour. You might like them better than IV 3000.

Great video! There are just two thing I do differently. I was taught to wear a mask before cleaning my skin. I know you don't want to open your dressing change kit too early so I keep a couple extra masks on hand. I know right now that's easier said than done. The only other thing is that I was taught to open packaging to the side (not over the sterile field) and then move the packaging over the sterile field before dropping it. It has been life changing for me to see the “others” and no longer other them. We all have a clear idea of what a “sick” person looks like and it often isn’t true. Thanks so much for sharing this video. I especially like that you shared your experience with the nurses not doing it right. That's been my experience as well and they get really defensive when you try to tell them how to do it right but it's definitely important to speak up since it's not the nurse who is at risk of serious infection it's us. I am getting my port on Monday. You've inspired me to document my process on RU-vid as well because I've watched as many day port-a-cath real life experience videos as I can! I'm looking forward to see your storage video when you get it posted!

I'm not a health care profesionnal or have any conditions requiring sterile procedure at home. But I'm a microbiology major, so sterility is something I know (even if in my case, it's just time wasted if I wasn't sterile enough). One thing I learned, is to move the less you can, like only your arm if you can. You can't with your setting and your current trash can, but it's good to have the trash on the side of the sterile field, I think some use a metal bowl (easy to clean/sterilize), just put their trash on it and deal with it at the end. It help limit movements. (In the lab, we always have the trash as close to the sterile field as possible). But check this with your nurse to be sure you can. Lots of love to you and your buns

I had no idea you had this channel. You have to be so proud of yourself, so many challenging illnesses yet you are handling your own bussiness and taking care of three bunnies who are lucky to have you... Wow!

Hi Haley! I noticed on your other channel a lot of people we not being very kind about your health and your port... so I wanted you to know I support you 100%!

A nurse told me to fold the adhesive like a toco , you don’t want it super tight . Have you tried laying down to access with a mirror position above you ? It could be easier for you to get a smaller needle in verse the big one . Also you should be using a 22 gauge with a .75 length needle. The 1” hurt way to much . Also , you should ask if they have a thing called a button that goes between your skin and the needle top and around the needle if it does come out.

Haley I have a port that is close to skin, I was able to get a smaller(shorter) needle so it didn't tent up. You should look into that. You did an amazing job

That was very interesting and informative!! I had a port (actually a double port) for several years and I was accessed 24/7. I remember having so many problems with the ports-becoming occluded several times and stuff. When I got a Hickmann central line, things were so much easier!!! I don’t know what condition you have that requires you to have a port but I certainly wish you the best! Stay safe!! 👍😊

I have a chest catheter for dialysis which also goes into my heart and use a lot of the same things as you like heparin ☺️ probably going to sit and binge watch all your medical videos now🤣❤️

Learning tomorrow any tips for getting over the mental part of stabbing urself? Iv done needs before loads of times but the first few times i do any new needle stuff im nervous and woth this needing to be sterile im even more worried. Also i think u might be slightly allergic to the iodide

I have been on medication for about 3 months and my symptoms have been worse🙄 I’m thinking about talking to my doctor about infusions.

This is a great video, but I think you may be allergic to the betadine. You’re super red! Maybe you didn’t notice?
