Great video. I’m 45 now and have been playing and collecting videos games since the age of 5 when my dad may he rest in peace, introduced me to the hobby with the ColecoVision. My Super Nintendo was also my number one console. I have a room full of consoles and videos games I’ve amassed for over 40 years, and every time I walk in there, I’m flooded with memories and joy.

I started retro collecting back in 2015. I just collected the games I played in the 90s and early 2000s. I stopped collecting just before covid hit, and was shocked to see the prices of retro games hit the roof.

This is a great video, Gemma. Thank you. I still would like to see you make a video where you just pick a random game (or collection of games) from your collection and go through the manual(s) and just reminisce about it. Game manuals are sorely missed these days and it'd be great to see some of them again, like Super Mario Kart. Keep up the great work.

Great video as always Gemma, absolutely love your passion for video games and your collection is amazing. The nostalgia of going to the local video store or going to a local Woolworths is fantastic, and unfortunately lost on the younger generation (not quite the same pressing a button on a screen to get latest games). I look forward to seeing your collection get even greater.

Picking up on your comment about kids Gemma... they are a true blessing as a parent (I have 3 between 8 and 12) but they are indeed both a blessing and a curse for the retro gamer parent, or the gamer parent in general. I'm really lucky that I have one boy in particular who loves retro games, knows all the systems and one of his fave things is the MAME cabinet I made him. He is a great little gaming companion for retro stuff, which is the blessing part. On the other hand, he is also into the usual games kids like these days... Fortnite or Rocket League for example, which although he pretends otherwise he would rather not play co-op with me because I'm completely rubbish 🤣

You nailed it in the head with meeting and talking to game store owners, cause they could help you out in the future if you’re on the hunt for certain games or items and grab them for you. It’s helped me out in the past multiple times.

I Know exactly What you mean, I remember buying my very first console, It was the CDI, With a Dozen games, I now have one with about 70 games and 45 films or more. Now i have nearly every console made And 200 to 400 games for every console except my Dream Cast and game cube, Which i have 32 Games for, and my collection is mint, I ether brought them brand new at the time, And if i did buy second hand, I spent hours checking the disks, IV'e been collecting since 1987, And now i live in a flat, so no more room for Book cases, It's getting out of control LOL. But It's all i have left of my Memory's, I don't think i could part with them, besides, Some of them you couldn't get again, Especially mint to. Im'e Impressed what you've achieved in 10 years, Bravo to you young Lady well done. you have some great stuff, all i need now is another Amiga 500 Or 1200, With CD rom External Drives and Monitor, EXE, OH! If you have one Please would you consider selling it to me, Great Video Mate.

I managed to pick up a SNES the other day for nothing with a good amount of games, I think I was very lucky and fortunate. But the one thing that amazes me is how well these games scale and look on my 8K TV. Seriously, it's kinda ridiculous. Great video.

Ey up gem. About 2 years ago I was into about 3700 games + 80 + systems .just took up room and never played 95% .so decided to concentrate on quality over quantity and the series I love the most. What's your plan going forward for room, and you going for raree high end games , selling of fodder and the 10 year plan .I find it interesting what people do when they reach the I'm full point, and at what point do people sell stuff and why , skiprat 😊

Love your passion for your collection and the hunt Gemma! For me gaming started in the late 70's/early 80's when I got to play on a friends Atari system, then getting a ZX Spectrum which I have alot of fond memories of, then a lean spell after i left school to then have my own Megadrive in the 90's then caught the Nintendo bug! Still play games nowadays and have a nice collection of alot of handhelds and vintage/retro consoles as well as a PS4 & an Xbox Series X! Once a gamer, always a gamer!!

SNES is still my favorite, why? Because I once saw my nephew in Thailand playing Super Mario World for the first time, (I am from europe) and never saw that console or game before back in the 90's. That moment only as a 6 year old kid, blew me away and I never stopped then collecting great video games after that, especially for the SNES. (Not the filler titles though, I hate filler titles :P) And yes, Quality before Quantity feels much better. Who wants to play Fifa anyway nowadays? They come out every single year! :D Love your videos Gemma. You are my favorite UK videogames youtuber. :]

I've been watching your channel for a couple of years now and you're always heartfelt, and sincere (love that about you). My concern is this: are you upping the stakes too far? These games are now costing you a lot, you've admitted this yourself. If I knew you personally, I would be checking in with you: is this healthy? Do you 'need' the high? Is the "nostalgia" about more than reminiscing? I just want to reiterate that I think you're great, but sometimes I'm sweating myself (£1000+ for 6 games). I can recall 16-bit games being in bargain bins for next to nothing, and market stalls for £5... Anyway, take care and keep being you. 😊
@TheGebs24
@TheGebs24 7 месяцев назад
The beauty is to see how this all evolves. I’ll have a little clear out and flog doubles. I might even have a little stall on one of the markets one day for doubles. Who knows :-)

I started collecting in 2012, I had probably one of the best collections you could own. From nes, snes, n64, GameCube, original gameboy. All of my games were cib and mint! Castlevania 3 for the nes £10, super Metroid £35, turtles in time £30 and the list goes on. Sadly I sold the lot of around 8 years ago: I would be sitting on a gold mine now if didn’t sell it all off. I started collecting back again around 3 years ago. I do have a large collection again of nes, N64, snes and Megadrive back. But sadly missing loads of heavy hitters as can’t afford to buy back what I once owned :(

Ive been collecting since around the same time as you started but the difference is I immediately focused on quality over quantity. The result is I have far less games than you but I still own hundreds and they are all killer, no filler. I think there are upsides to your method though, seeing a lot of games is absolutely a motivator to continue.

Fantastic collection 👌I'm a bit of a Star Wars figure collector but I often think to myself - why? What is the purpose? Other than a bit of buzz you get from actually buying and receiving the item what is the actual point? It's not like I'd ever sell them. I genuinely find it amusing the psychological side of people who get addicted to collecting.

I follow this and other retro channels like metal Jesus, and what doesn't seem to be mentioned is when you're collecting what about condition, scratched disks, poor cases, missing manuals, etc. My ocd means I have multiple copies of some games to get one in better condition, particularly more meaningful games.

How ironic, you criticise people who get first dibs in charity and retro gaming shops, when every year at Birmingham Gaming Market you seem to get in before everyone else… You also contradict yourself, talk about building a network of contacts so they tell you when they get stuff in, then right after state how you don’t agree with that. Eh…?

I think quality is better over quantity. I see a lot of collectors just buying complete filler which I know it’s just there for show to bulk up the shelf. Do not get it, only get the games you want to play.

I love to collect the odd few bits not on the same level.......but the most sickening thing I remember was a long gone shop that sold me a brand new old stock atari jaguar when I was much younger........a little while later i accidentally blew it up by using a snes power plug. My mother at the time (sick of my hoarding tendancy i guess) said to throw it out........i did keep the controller and stuff but this immaculate condition box and everything chucked 🤦 I do own one now in semi nice condition but every little tiny dent in it reminds me of the first one i bought Live n learn

Great collection of games but my question is it enjoyable or more of an obsession? me personally am totally opposite my ocd goes crazy if I own something gaming wise I don’t use …it has to go to fund something else not cos I need the cash I think it stems from being a kid in the 80/90s and trading games for a new one etc

Do you have a PS5 yet. I know It's not retro But, one day it will be, I have 250 games for mine already. I just love gaming, I love retro more though, Most of the games were made better i think. Good old Space invaders, Pack Man, Donkey Kong, Defender, RTYPE, Hugo, Outrun, Chace HQ, OMG it was so Awsome back then wasn't it, I use to have my own games store in 2004, selling brand new PS2 and PC games, The PC games were retro, But the PS2 games were a Mix Of new tittles and second hand. i have always wanted my own shop to be honest, But selling my own personal collection would be tough, i know Id'e enjoy the challenge though, who knows Maybe you would shock me and come and say Hi, And Buy a few Bargains, That would be cool. What is your Favorite Console, Mine is the 3DO, Then the Great Legendary Dream Cast. anyway, Keep up the good work TheGebs24.
