Quickly became my favoruite aviation channel. Fantastic pilot, great scenery, cool plane... and I trully appriciate all the effort you put into the production of these vlogs. The multiple cameras, the screen recording on the ipad and the way you present the whole thing... Must be a nightmare to set up everything in the morning, and sorting all the footages later, but it makes a really cool and high quality youtube channel. Thanks Ryan!

I think the best part of these videos is that your kids will be able to watch their dad at work and have a record to look back on many years into the future. I flew charter around Australia for many years and only have one single video, mostly because video cameras back then were so expensive and so big and heavy.

Hi Ryan As an old TPNG type, 8 years in the territory in the 60s & 70s, (I am now 80 years old) flew into some of the places you have taken us to as part of my work . Great to watch your skills as a pilot, I do remember a hairy landing in a Cessna 337 push pull into Omkalia not that far from Garoka if my memory serves me right. Wonder if you have ever landed there? Congrats on the excellent work you are doing.

As a former helicopter pilot, I was so smart that I dropped out of Air Force ROTC in college after two years then wound up joining the Army and electing to go to Infantry OCS. Then I elected to go to rotary wing flight school. I realized in OCS that it's better to ride instead of walk and better to fly than ride.

Oh, the glamour of being a pilot. Getting up in the dark, getting to the airport, getting the plane ready to go, checking everything, all before the sun comes up. I know that you've done these early morning departures but I don't remember you sharing them. Absolutely fabulous, Ryan. Also, I did not remember that helicopters were your first interest. My grandfather was with the 500th Bomb Squadron, 345th bombardment wing, 5th AAF in WWII. He was part of the bombing mission depicted. The 500th had the white belly bands around their B-25s I have a photo of one of their B-25s overflying Wewak after it was bombed and was smoking. He sent it home to my grandmother as a postcard. Very cool to watch your videos flying around the area. I am a commercially rated pilot myself and really enjoy your videos. Would love to come out there and fly.

MK from Kenya here in the '70s and early '80s. My dream was to return as a pilot but the cost was beyond my families ability so I ended up going in to Engineering. We still managed to get back to Kenya for 2 years (2005-2007) -- but I worked in computer support --- ug.

Your personal aviation storey always "ignites the engines within me': community college learning WAS an excellent middle class institution in Australia, until the introduction of "user pays" education. For years I have canvassed for NO FRILLS educating! Now we have International students and citizens on HECS government loans. 🌏🇦🇺

It was great to see real Wewak (AYWK) after visit there on my simulator. I am glad that the authorities are working on extension of the runway, I had inches to spear for takeoff.

Never knew you lived in PNG as a kid, interesting! Perhaps an idea in a future vid to explain how you switch between VFR and IFR mid flight, whether this is common anywhere and the difference between international regulations when it comes to that? I understand PNG is slightly different in this regard?

Thank you Ryan, very enjoyable as always. I have been watching some of your previous videos, and at one point you were asking if the flight videos were getting to repetitious. That's the nice thing about a place like Papua New Guinea, for me no two flights are the same. In a previous video you asked what makes a good pilot, and I think if you can only point to one thing, it's the ability to say NO. Also, in the past you have said that flying can get boring. I've been flying for over 55 years and I seldom find it boring. People ask me where did you go? They are people that consider aviation transportation. Where did I go? I got off the Earth. That's good enough for me.

Nice. The multiple layers are similar to what I get on the Oregon coast on morning departures from Tillamook. Yeah, pop out and catch the sunrise... magic. Great vid.

Joseph W. Rutter flew raids to Wewak, even Rabaul. He wrote a book about his time flying an A-20 Havoc in PNG. The origins of the gun ship was unapproved field modifications made to B-25s operating out of Moresby. I think the video you mentioned shows some of those mods such as parachute bombs (which were to allow following aircraft to clear the area when on low level flights.)

Ok… You are in one of the most remote countries in the world, just finished sharing a brief version of your awesome story and testimony, and without skipping a beat, stated that you just texted a guy in this ultra remote place and he returned your text!!! Am I the only one so old that realizing you can send and receive text messages in this environment a miracle in and of itself?! I am originally from far southeastern Oklahoma in the Winding Stair / Kiamichi Mountains… There are currently vast swaths of areas with no cell or text coverage whatsoever! You can't expect crystal clarity from your cameras under the takeoff conditions but if you're good (or lucky :P ) you can achieve the surrreal visuals you captured. The first ten minutes are among the nicest flying video I've had the pleasure of watching.

I am also a MK but born and raised next door in Indonesia (Islands of Madura and Java) where my folks served with WEC from 1966 to 1997. I know what you mean about enjoying a sunrise as you depart and pop out of a low layer. One morning, I told my instructor "30 second pause on our lesson to enjoy the view." I think I threw him off...but he "took off his instructor hat" for a moment and enjoyed the view.

So are you actual Papua New Guinean? I wanted to fly as a youngster. I was awed by Avro Shackletons flying overhead- check out them babies. I later realised I would never hack it in RAF officer training. You gotta love the music from old flag waving films.

Ryan, thanks for sharing your story. I'm in the process of becoming a bush pilot right now, and hearing about your path was educational. When you mentioned Jackson Community College, my mind was blown a little bit! Many of my family members went there, and I was actually born in Jackson. I don't know if you're familiar with Bethel Church in Jackson, but that was my childhood church. Anyway, thanks so much for making these videos. I pull up your channel whenever I get discouraged. Highly interesting morning IFR departure. Maybe the cameras aren't very sensitive in that low light, but it looked like braille flying. Scenes later on of the long stringy clouds as you approached Wewak were fantastic. Great flight, great video.
