In this video on how I became fluent in Japanese, I talk about how I mastered the listening comprehension aspect of Japanese. If you want to watch anime or Jdramas without the subtitles, this may be the most important video to watch 😝
📚 Resources mentioned in the video:
• HelloTalk - downloadable on the Google Play Store or iOS App Store. Their website: www.hellotalk.com/?lang=en
• iTalki - www.italki.com
• Japanesepod101 listening tests: • 26 Minutes of Japanese...
• Past JLPT listening exams - simply search ‘JLPT listening exam’ + your N level in RU-vid.
• List of Japanese podcasts: www.alllanguageresources.com/...
• One of Onomappu’s videos (shown in this video): • Why are Asians so skin...

Been using italki for three months now and have to say my listening skill has definitely improved since the tutors can match their speaking level to slightly above my current level. They also help me stay motivated as what I said can be understood by native Japanese. Now that I can communicate a little in Japanese, might give hello talk a try. Definitely prefer real human interactions. Podcasts are just not for me😅😅

Wowww you've been going at it for 3 months?? I love that commitment 👏👏 definitely not surprised to hear you're already seeing improvement!! And having partners that can adjust their level is really clutch, because you're always challenged JUUUUUST the right amount 😌👌 and i get it. Nothing beats real human interaction PERIODT.

I've spent ages on this video. First, you talked about Hello Talk. I then got distracted and went on there to scroll through moments. Then you talked about JLPT listening practice - so I found that on RU-vid and tested myself on a whole 40 min session. And now - I haven't watched Onomappu in a while so now I kinda want to go listen to him again. Lol, I promise your video is still very interesting XD

@TokuyuuTV I caught that ✊😅 Gave a slight cheer👏😁 .. To go along with your request to leave some examples of learning aides, I have to say that some of the super kawaii free apps are not to be overlooked. One in particular that I think could be of use to beginners like myself is KawaiiNihongo. Memorizing hiragana and katakana are a must before testing any of these of course. Once you have, this particular app is a comfortable place to start building a useful vocabulary and familiarize yourself with the difference in sentence structure. Like you mentioned in one of your videos, it will all depend upon how these apps are used and how much time you're willing to put into the repetition of what you've "already learned". It's also a place where I found a (keyword 😅👉) comfortable introduction to to the flick-style keyboard. It must be helping because I was able to read your shirt at a glance. Really glad you covered some JapanesePod101 in this video. I had been pushing those video suggestions and advertisements aside, concerned that they were too flashy and heavily advertised to contain the necessary information we're all searching for online. I'll definitely be taking a closer look now. I'd like to encourage other beginner level students reading this to get out there and use what you're learning. No matter how simple you believe your acquired phrases to be. All it takes is a little 皆さん, おはよう/こんばんはごうざいました! to get started. What's more, you can create an alternate and anonymous account so there's no worry of your practice interfering with your daily interactions within your current circle of friends and family. I say current because once you begin putting yourself out there... an entirely new dimension is revealed and your self esteem is sure to go through the roof. Tokuyuu TV... You the man! ✊☺️ .. Everyone else... You can, you should and if you're brave enough to start you will!

I think the only way you could learn Japanese only through Anime is by starting with a easy Anime get a complete script have translation for all the words in each episodes and watch in 5 minute blocks over and over again until you understand most words in the episode. Of course by doing that way you may hate Anime after a couple of months.

After skimming through these videos I want to ask: where immersion? Like seriously, that's how you get fluent...
@TokuyuuTV
@TokuyuuTV 2 года назад
I talk about it in my kanji video! And immersion is super helpful when used correctly, but i believe it is widely misunderstood 😌
@vali69
@vali69 2 года назад
@@TokuyuuTV in what way? I learned the language with which we're now conversing solely from immersion. I believe it's pretty straight forward and works quite wonders if you treat it like a job and spend 8 hours a day on it. Or at least try to get as many hours and use good material, stuff on the level of everyday conversation, youtube being the best place for it and way better than anime for example.
@TokuyuuTV
@TokuyuuTV 2 года назад
I think active immersion is extremely helpful i.e. listening to japanese and actually focusing on learning new words and recognizing grammar structures. Especially when it’s paired with content studying! But a lot of people don’t study content and just watch anime or go to japan for a month and walk around expecting the japanese to sink in, which is passive immersion and not as effective imo. But your English is exceptional so you’re definitely learning the correct way 😙
@vali69
@vali69 2 года назад
@@TokuyuuTV I agree that some people don't understand how to immerse and you're 100% right. You have to be focused on what you're watching. Anime can be one of those, but I believe it's not good to use as material for immersion alone. RU-vid on the other hand it's where it's at. Diversified content from thousands of people all speaking normally, unlike in anime. When you're not paying attention it becomes passive immersion, as you've said, and it's not as beneficial. I've spent thousands of hours actively watching, and not leaving in the background, videos from a diversified pool of content from tech to gaming to vlogs and educational videos. It helped a lot. But I do think a lot of people do understand this as channels like matt vs japan popularized the method.
@TokuyuuTV
@TokuyuuTV 2 года назад
@@vali69 i agree that youtube is probably a better study resource than anime, like you said the sheer variety of *real-life* japanese and topics is incredible. Sounds like you’re really diligent with actually paying attention and absorbing new content, which I hope more people do! I’m glad Matt vs Japan is popularizing this important concept 😌

Imagine spending over 400 hours learning Japanese, rocking your N3 test then getting your A there and... not getting jack sh!t of what people are trying to tell you. That's rough.
@TokuyuuTV
@TokuyuuTV Год назад
Unfortunately that’s the reality for a lot of people. Since Japanese is so different from English, it’s difficult to get use to hearing it. That’s why you gotta stay patient and give it time! But with an N3 level under your belt, you’d be in a fantastic position to keep picking it up 🥳
