I have wanted to buy a motorbike here in Bangkok for quite some time. Well today I will show you how I bought my first motorbike here in Thailand and take it for it's first ride. I explain the whole process of how I purchased my new Honda ADV 160 motorbike. This is also my first time riding it, as it is brand new. With only 2 km on the odometer, I set off to show you the Honda motorcycle dealer where I bought the bike. During my first ride in Bangkok on this ADV 160, I encountered some crazy traffic, a pretty lady, a funny motorbike Taxi driver, and some other characters. Then we are off to the Honda CUB House where I sit down and give a fully detailed explanation of the step by step process to buy a new bike in Thailand. Up next is a quick tour of the Honda CUB house and a quick chat with a guy about his Honda Cub. My last stop on my first day of riding in Bangkok is to NP51 Motors. This is a great used bike dealership with the nicest, and super honest, owner. I am so excited to finally have my own motorbike here in Thailand. So many adventures to be had on it!

I considered the ADV and the PCX and opted for the Honda Click 160. The Honda Click 160 is narrower, shorter wheelbase and tighter turning circle and hence better for filtering through traffic jams in Bangkok. It is also cheaper at 65,000 baht. The centre hook and floor makes one able to carry lots of shopping back from the supermarket easier. Girls like the Honda Click because they can step into it when wearing a skirt or dress to drive it.
@LifewithSerg
@LifewithSerg Год назад
You’re absolutely correct. And I believe it’s a little bit quicker because it weighs less. Great choice. I plan on taking extended trips on this motor bike, so that’s why the Click was not an option for me.

@@LifewithSerg You made the right decision in choosing ADV. I like it. It's beautiful. As for me, I use Click 160. It's nimble in Bangkok and I've driven it 1,000 kilometers back and forth to other provinces. It's OK but not soft and might hurt my butt.

That scooter is definitely capable to do longer trips, I have done 800km trips several times - 9.5-10hrs on my 155 NMAX. That means I was riding pretty steady on it those times but a couple of years later now after the long covid interruption I have decided to split those into 2-part trips from now on, so even more doable. Congratulations on your purchase, they are very nice scooters, happy riding.

@@LifewithSerg I'm a little in limbo right now, using the time to refine my setup a bit. I will use the same NMAX for now, although I have almost bit on the ADV 350 a few times, or something like a Himalayan b/c it's slow and steady also. so I'd keep the NMAX as everyday still. I flicker back and forth on this like a candle by the window 😄

@@RonniesRambles I agree that 155 is very much capable to do long ish distances. I have a GSX-S150 here in Thailand and it is ok I have travelled a couple thousand kms on it, but I too am looking for something bigger and since I don't live in Bangkok size isn't so much of an issue. Is the NMAX ok going up steep hills? I got a geared bike for the steep hills up here in the north over a scooter.

Apologies in advance: it's gonna be long. 🙏 I was going to suggest the possibility of you making this very video once you got home from your Northern Thailand trip and got good and rested up, but then I happened to wonder if perhaps you've already made one when you made the original purchase--and, oh, look! You have! 😅 So now I get to barrage you with my questions and waffling! Now that you've been riding your bike for 10mos and have taken it on some long trips, are you still really happy with the ADV160? Is there anything about it you're not happy with? Is it holding up okay? Gas lid isn't getting wobbly, switches are still tight? It isn't too small for you at the knees or reach? I've read everywhere that with motorbikes, it's not a matter of IF you'll get hit and knocked over, but WHEN. I suppose this is true enough no matter where in the world you are, a scooter is really a target waiting to happen. What are your thoughts on this? Have you christened your bike with some road rash yet? Maybe it's just because I'm looking at this as riding in another country, but this actually makes me really nervous about getting something. I also noticed that while you're all suited up on the long trips, zipping about town it's a backpack and t-shirt with gloves and a full helmet. I don't doubt this is the norm amongst locals (actually, I was seeing lots of no helmets from the locals), but from a safety perspective, is wearing the protective jacket and jeans, etc, practical when you know you're going out on the road in BKK? I keep thinking about the heat. What I've been wanting to do is get a Primavera S 150. Full disclosure: I've never had a scooter before. Years ago, I had this buddy who was super deep into scootering and scooter clubs, the whole lot. He would take me on his scooter around town and tried to talk me hard into getting a scooter, as well. We're talking full on evangelizing! Man, it was tough to resist! He was passionate! But I've been fighting any desire for a vehicle that consumes gasoline for decades now, and I really didn't see why I should take on the burden of having a purchase like a scooter, when I was more than capable of getting from A to B by walking or public transit. It really disappointed him and now I'm wondering how smart a choice that was in the long run, cos look at me now: back to where I was 25-ish years ago, thinking about the same things again, except this time without his advice to lean on, when I coulda had all that experience and knowledge banked up. To be completely honest, I've only ever been interested in Vespa and Lambretta, thanks to those younger punker years (no, not Quadrophenia). Back then it was either a vintage Lambretta (or DEATH! Oi!!) or the Primavera. Over the years, it was hard enough getting Lambretta out of my head, I know Vespa isn't leaving my consciousness any time soon. So Vespa it is. And, yeah, I'm already thinking about the clubs (YOU HEAR THAT DOUGGY?? YA BASTARD! GET OUT OF MY HEAD! /forks/), so I think it's awesome you showed that coffee/custom shop in this video. (side note: on another channel that focuses only on scooters in Australia, I found a video of his for a custom motorcycle festival they have at one of the malls every year in BKK--so I thought that was super awesome!) I figure the Primavera is more than enough to zip from here to there in BKK. But then I got to watching your long distance videos and it's more than apparent to me that where my Primavera couldn't hack it on your Northern trip by a long shot, here you are no holds bar! I'm in a quandary of what to do. It's not anything I really need to decide this minute. I'm not even in Bangkok yet, and won't be for just a couple more years while I take care of some things on the home front (the countdown in my head is real!) I'm just thinking forward when I get there and get settled down, I know I'm going to want something, and I'd like to be smart about it. Oh, random information I found out: the cost of a brand new Primavera S in BKK is more than HALF the cost savings of one bought in the US! That's insane! I'm done now, promise. Stay safe on those roads, don't over do it! Really appreciate all that you show us and your insights. Video suggestion for much later: maybe a series on BKK scooter clubs, talk with some of the folks at meets, what their custom bikes are, etc. I'd be all over a video like that. Cheers man! ❤‍🔥🕉🕊

For the city the 160 is best due to its lighter weight and smaller dimensions. Been working on a Silverwing 400, its a handful compared to my CRF 250l, especially in traffic. Having a yellow house book makes purchase easier, but the process of getting the book in the first place requires a visit to the embassy anyhow, so for a one time deal its the same. I don’t like the looks of the Forza. Both the Forza 350 and ADV 350 are very fat bikes to me. At that point I would just buy a real motorcycle. You’ll have to look at them yourself when you come here and compare and see which one you like more

When you were paying for your bike, did you use credit card check or cash my experience when I bought my Honda PCX. I paid it cash. And that seem to work out well with them. Also I couldn't get a free helmet that would fit me so that was annoying. This was in Chang Mai. I'm sure it's a lot different in Bangkok. Cheers

I really wanted to put it on my American Express card, just for the points and the best rate conversion. But they would only take cash or transfer. So I just transferred from my bank. Trust me, you don’t want the helmet they gave me. It’s not something you don’t want to wear on a regular basis.

You don't need to turn on your high beams during the day. Thai people don't use high beams unless the road is very dark. Your bike already has a daytime running light. If you turn on the high beams, you won't be able to use the pass lights. The high beam is used with the pass light button. If you turn on the high beams when you press the pass lights, they won't work. Passlights are used to warn and ask for directions. Just press the flashing pass light and it will mean you're asking for directions. Or you can have the person making the U-turn be careful not to eject.😁😁🙏🙏

I like how you show everyday life and not just vacation mode. Some folks just show “fun” times and we all know that this is not real life. The more videos I see the more I really want to leave this rat race. I live in Southern California and ride a motorcycle and we are legally allowed to split lanes. The problems most have are people that are not from California wanting to impose their ways on us and cutting us riders off. Thanks for the videos, stay safe.
