Great video. My wife and I are both immigrants from a 3rd world country and are very unfamiliar with stuff like this. We are in our 40s and are just starting to get a grasp on our finances. Hopefully we can give our kids the head start they deserve. Thank you!

Be careful! Rose does not care about her followers getting scammed: Rose…remember last year when we got scammed by people impersonating you? As you know, we are an older couple, and we got scammed out of our entire their life savings. What I don’t get is, Rose, you KNEW it was going on and did nothing. It was a very elaborate con, so we put it all on rosehanscam for all to see- It’s very sad that you didn’t do a thing to protect us all. Why didn’t you take responsibility? Rose…why? You were kind at first, but then you got defensive once you saw that it was truly your fault for not letting everyone know…and then you ghosted us.

great work. My husband and I started seriously investing only 15 years ago after we paid off our house. For the last 10 years of those 15, we have put in the max allowed in our 401K's. having a paid for home allows you to really accelerate your savings rate. The earlier you begin to seriously save in your 401K, the quicker you will be able to live off of dividends.

Very informative video! My wife and I have a cash fund in our budget! I take out $200 a month and it’s put in a container. You’re allowed to take $40 a week and use any way you want. If you want to stop by a coffee, candy bar or donuts for the family. When this money is gone, that’s it till the next month. If there’s any money left over stays in the container for the next month. Now this is all for small purchases.

We need to start doing this. 1. I hate tracking all those little $5-$30 purchases... also, 2. Those are what get me! I'll admit I'm not in the habit of checking the budget before I buy the little things bc I assume i have the, say, $20. But it all adds up quickly, especially in a family with kids who seem to always need money for something!

I've been budgeting for years. I think people are very averse to budgeting. This may be a little complicated for a beginning budgeter, apps like everydollar are super simple to start. I would recommend doing it manually until you have a strong grasp on budgeting and then go to things like attaching to your bank accounts. Income basic categories and outgo basic categories, do that for 90 days and then start getting more detailed.

It’s not much work once you have a system in place. I maintain a personal budget roughly as detailed as the one Rose presented. It takes me about 30 minutes once every month. Once you have a system in place, and assuming your savings, investments, and expenditures don’t change drastically month by month, it almost drives itself after a while and it just becomes a matter of fine-tuning.

Becareful though: Rose…remember last year when we got scammed by people impersonating you? As you know, we are an older couple, and we got scammed out of our entire their life savings. What I don’t get is, Rose, you KNEW it was going on and did nothing. It was a very elaborate con, so we put it all on rosehanscam for all to see- It’s very sad that you didn’t do a thing to protect us all. Why didn’t you take responsibility? Rose…why? You were kind at first, but then you got defensive once you saw that it was truly your fault for not letting everyone know…and then you ghosted us.

Sorry in advance if this is a sensitive topic. Can you speak to how your divorce settlement helped to kick start your investing journey. Not many of us have that advantage. Thanks.

Great video, Rose. What investments do you sell covered calls on? Another fun idea for future videos would be to show case the financial progress of your boyfriend. I think you had mentioned that he has goals of getting out of debt and building his net worth. It would be fun for anyone (but especially beginners with a negative net worth) to watch his progress. Keep up the good work. I always enjoy your videos and learn a lot from you! :)

That is such a good idea!!! About the boyfriend progress too :) Love that, I'll talk to him about it :) As for covered calls - I do it in my speculative trading account (a secondary taxable brokerage account that i didn't mention in the video in order not to confuse people) on stocks/ETFs I got assigned on from cash-secured puts. Before selling a cash-secured put on something, I always make sure it is a holding I'd personally be happy to own regardless of options activity and also has a very liquid options market, such as ARKK, COIN, SPY, QQQ. Perhaps a topic for a whole 'nother video!

I’m 31 and a stay at home mother with their first child. My husband and I just got married last year and we are struggling to get things in order. I wish someone had taught us all of this when we were younger. We married with lots of debt (mostly college) and I wish I had been diligent about paying off debt and saving. I feel like I’m starting very late… but I guess it’s better to start now than never.
