How I Built a $1 Billion Start-Up Called Misfits Market

Misfits Market is an online grocery delivery service that sells “ugly” organic produce for cheap. In the first four months of 2021 alone, Misfits Market rescued the same amount of food it saved in 2020 as a whole. In 2020, Misfits Market shipped 77 million pounds of food to more than 400,000 households across the U.S. Since launching in 2018, Misfits Market has expanded to both coasts, has over 1,000 employees and has received over $300 million in funding. Bloomberg reports its valuation tops $1 billion, putting it into unicorn territory. But Misfits Market wasn’t an obvious success. In fact, it was just one of many businesses started by its 29-year-old founder Abhi Ramesh.

@bobby_digital9493
@bobby_digital9493 3 года назад
From his facial expressions though he seems like his parents didn’t support him much until he made it and that he’s just saying that since that is his ethnic story. Had he went bankrupt his parents would probably be ashamed of him in their Indian community. That’s the dark side of these stories you never hear about. Which by the way you don’t ever hear about a white entrepreneur. A lot of the success stories of Asians are ones that have psychological and even physical abuse you never hear mentioned. Im signing up though, it’s definitely something positive to get behind and about time someone took initiative on the billions of pounds of food wasted each year. Good for him.

@@bobby_digital9493 Most parents in the culture don't point fingers at their own kids. Parents worry that their kids will fail and also that others will point to their kids as failures. They cannnot accurately gauge how much potential he has as an entrepreneur being that they aren't entrepreneurs themselves. So they will err on the side of caution especially when he takes out 150k in debt to get his business off the ground. The fully supportive parents are generally well off/ or actually have the ability to recognize potential in their child.

As a Indian I am saying. No Indian migrant in the west 'have come from nothing' they are usually from upper middle class or upper class families. You need minimum of 20-30 lakhs (inr 3,000,000) to relocate to the west. Most middle class Indians back home don't have that kind of money.
@vasanthplays8776
@vasanthplays8776 3 года назад
@@tl7239 you're wrong on that. My dad came from a lower middle class family, he studied really hard, gained a few years of experience in Qatar and then later moved back to india to somehow get a H1-B visa. he got one after a month with a decent job offer. Total savings at that point in his life would be maybe 2 lakhs at most. he bought his first flight tickets and went there and worked for 2 months and then was able to afford for us to join him. Eventually he found a job that offered better pay in india itself so we moved back. Any indian can do it if they're skilled and relentless.
@shivinunitholi2493
@shivinunitholi2493 3 года назад
@@vasanthplays8776 today if you need to migrate to the US with just bout 2-3 lacs you gotta be getting a job offer directly from an organization in the US. It's not that simple as you say. Else every other skilled Indian would've ended up in the West. Which is why most prefer migrating during their student years and pursue a Masters having a student visa and then try to get a work opportunity so that they can stay back. And if you are not one of those very few who have a scholarship grant then well it would cost you nothing less than 40 lacs and that's not a small amount.
