5:38 - I've been watching Star Wars since the 1970's and never realized how much C-3PO was influenced by Maria from Metropolis until someone recently mentioned it. Now I can't unsee it.
This is perfect! I've been printing out 3PO's left gold arm (the one ripped off by the swamp creature prior to Episode 7), and I wanted to make it look like it was ripped out of socket causing the gears, computer parts, and wires to look shattered, ripped, and stressed. By using your video on the junkyard K-2SO droid and this video on the gold paint, my 3PO arm should come out looking fantastic. Appreciate your vids!
Haha! A question I haven’t gotten yet! I do my color grade using FilmConvert Nitrate. I used one of their Kodak stocks as a base and tweaked a few settings to get a color that consistently returns results that I like for the lighting in my workshop. I now have that saved as a preset and use it in every video. I don’t use their grain emulation since I feel it’s too artificial, and instead use a variety of 4k 16mm film scans I’ve accumulated over the years. For the final reveal shots I throw in a few more dirt and scratch overlays as well. I’m a big fan of the imperfection of film!
I hate all of the weathering. C3PO was not always dirty and weathered. Just like the craze in classic cars now where they don't paint them but leave the rust. I hate that. RANT over. Great work.
Haha! He was definitely dirty at some points though. I was specifically going for the “just walked off the Jawa’s Sand Crawler” look. I’ll also add I like rusted out cars. Imperfection adds character 😉❤️
