PERFECT Video. I have an extra room that I will try this in. Reading the comments made me cringe because it seems others can't read or just don't. Thanks again man and great video had to sub for your knowledge so ty again.
Very well explained its gonna help me with mine alot👍. Which I'll video and show ya the finished product. Looking forward to watching ya filtration setup.😊
Re-watching this again in Nov.2022. Just priced a new piece of 3/4 4 foot by 6 foot at my local shop.----- $3,400 US dollars......I miss the old days. Back to Craigslist and Marketplace for used glass.
Like 64! How are you Mike? Definitely very informative! I need to build one of those tanks! Awesome! Have a great day and happy fish keeping! Take care till next time!🐟😎❤️👍🐠
Amazing man. Your channel is awesome. Such an inspiration. Is your profession related to knowing how to do all this? You seem super comfortable with all the wood work and plumbing. I want to learn how to do these things.
Nice video nice job. I thought the tank design could have been more functional. I would prefer a taller or more verticle structure allowing an eye level point of view. That's just me... What water drain methods have you deployed?
Great video im in need of a very large plywood tank myself my special fishy buddy is growing massive and I’ll need a gigantic tank for him not sure how a 5k gallon would go with two viewing panels but that might even be too small for my little friend lol
Great video thanks for sharing. How long will that paint liner hold up do you think. Beautiful job on that build, I’m nowhere near that level, maybe one day.
I know of one person who has had no issues in 12 yrs with a rubberized epoxy similar to what I used. But I don't really know what to expect. Almost 1 yr in now
Planning on building something similar but... outside. I will use all treated materials and paint everything too. I might make it double skinned with insulation as well. Where I live in South East Queensland, Australia, it gets down to single digits on the Celsius scale but that's about it. Undecided on which method I'll use to seal it at this point. It will be 8' x 4' x 4'. The glass size will depend on what I can pick up second hand. Also undecided.... what fish I will put in it. Probably just Australian natives.
Also how many times do you have to flush this out before you do the final fill, just to get rid of residue and chemicals etc otherwise they would kill the fish no?
Dude your aquariums are bad shit crazy. I'm a new home owner and a fish nerd (freshwater). I'm interested in doing a 500gal or better in my basement. I love diy projects but how much do you think it'll cost me to do a native freshwater tank for panfish spices Crappie, perch, bluegill etc. Also what size would you recommend for about 15 fish. Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated to your new subscriber👋🏾. Thanks and keep doing what you do bro.
Did you get the 3/4 inch glass at Lowe’s or Home Depot? Or do you have to get special aquarium glass? Great video and super helpful to, really awesome.
Idk where he ordered his from but I've ordered glass cut to size from a local glass place that does windshields, etc. So maybe try to find a place like that? It wasn't very expensive at all and was much trustworthy that things were actually cut to the proper size since in our area at least, Lowe's and home depot never do proper measurements for things
I laid the fiberglass into the same epoxy. You can do this with any epoxy you choose to use for the build. I used plate glass not tempered. You do not want tempered glass. Dimensions 82"x37"x3/4"
I've done multiple videos on cost I'm sure you could look them up. I didn't build u a nice little materials list though. Too much work to keep track that closely sorry
I have not needed to heat the tank until about a week ago. I have 4 - 300w heaters in the sump and they're keeping it at about 80 degrees but i'm not sure they will be enough when the basement starts getting colder this winter. I will add more heaters as needed
OUTSTANDING JOB! I can appreciate the amount of time that it takes to get to this point, we all wish we can have a 1100 gallon tank in 17:52 minutes ....LOL. Definitely a lot of man hours...and beer! I'm Presently doing a built out of a 1000 gallon tank, feel free to check it out on my new RU-vid channel "their world aquatics ". The information you provided was priceless, great job on your aquarium. Joe from Ohio!
I see a lot of "monster" tanks (if you can call them that lol) be built like this but never any smaller tanks. I want to make a LOT of 6'×3'×2'H and 8'×2'×~14"H nobody makes the smaller ones out of fiberglass and the 6' ones are 1200 without freight shipping. So question is do you think making "smaller" tanks this way is economical compared to buying fiberglass tanks or building glass/acrylic tanks?
hi Mike, you mentioned a fibreglass strip or tape that you used for the seams of the 1100 gallon tank. What was the name of it? Or do you recommend something better?
Hey Mark I bought sheets of fiberglass at lowes I forget the brand and details but it was the only one they had. I just the sheet into 6 inch strips and it wasn't all that easy but that fiberglass was perfect for what I was doing with the 1100. I could probably do that again here but I'd rather do full boat fiberglass with resin and gel coat
I'm having troubles finding such a product here in Northern Ireland. Was it a fibreglass tape which was stick on? Or did you apply some resin/epoxy? I might end up going the full fibreglass route, like your doing with new build, but it seems a bit daunting. Still undecided.
In this application I just layed fiberglass strips into the wet epoxy. You can buy sheets of it at most hardware stores. This is not like actually using fiberglass with a resin. That's a different process. Hope this helps.
I did a video on how much my Aquariums cost including this tank near the end if u wanna check it out but long story short approx $2k without filtration and exterior aesthetic stuff
@@OffTheDeepEndAquatics I appreciate that. I live on a fresh water canal in south Florida. Thinking of building a very large tank and plumbing it into the canal as the filtration part
Watching some catch em all I see. It works but there are a lot of reasons I wouldn't recommend it. Definitely fine for natives caught in the same body of water.
@@OffTheDeepEndAquatics I had the idea to do that way before I saw Zak's videos but same premise. I don't wanna deal with the filtration side on a very large scale tank
Great video and awesome setup. My only piece of advice is that while I share your love for fish/aquariums, I do not share your love for heavy metal and I'm sure i'm not alone. I would highly recommend having something more, traditionally, soothing/relaxing on in the background IF you think you need to have background music.. The music is just such a stark contrast to peaceful aquariums.. I would have muted, but I wanted to hear the commentary. Either way, cool video and great setup. Thanks for sharing!
Notifications don't tell me what video this is you're commenting on but I'm pretty sure it's the only video ever that I used heavy music. All the others have traditional RU-vid style music but I have now stopped using any music at all especially during commentary. Thanks for the advice. You and many others have told me plenty about the dislike for the music and I took the "hints" lol
@@OffTheDeepEndAquatics hahaha oh okay, great, thanks for the reply. This is the first of your video's i have seen, it's the build video for your plywood 1100gal and I really enjoyed it. I hope i didn't offend with the music comment, we all have different tastes in music, i'm sure you would hate mine as well lol
No offense at all man I understand completely. There is actually one more video that I was thinking u were talking about and it's worse than this 😂 if u find it just know that I know lol
@@OffTheDeepEndAquatics haha cool man. I'm watching more of your videos now, it's great content. Keep it up! I've been thinking of starting a channel myself, but the editing is what's been holding me back..
Well Done ! We build very similar. I built a 1210 gallon plywood system. I used Pond Armor myself ( 7 coats ). My build has some breakdown ( step by step ) videos.. im hitting your sub button and ask you to come my way and see what I did. Thanks This was my 4th plywood build, and couldn't get any help with my glass. 2ft x 8ft x 13ml..
I don't understand. My build is nothing like anything he's ever built and this isn't a how to video like he does. Not sure how my content and is content are alike in anyway other than we are both fish keepers 🤷♂️
Nice tank. Never understood why people always put those big fish in these tanks instead of making a nice scaped ecosystem with schools of fish. To each their own I guess.
