Thanks for the burnishing lesson! I love the slip inlay, too. Reminds me of korean pottery, some of my favorite are the slip inlaid stampings and carvings

Great guitar background, it really adds to the video! I hope it becomes a regular part of all your presentations. And the burnishing was a good addition to the techniques you've shown us before.

Great video Simon thanks as always. Great to see a burnishing tutorial and I really liked the inlay on the plows. Informative as always.

Yes! Truly inspiring. I am going to try it on my white clay with black slip. Thank you, Simon!

Thank you so much Simon, I will watch again later as I watched this in the middle of the night and now have to go! Loved the rim decoration, and now can’t wait to see the finished item 😍 loved the look of the burnished pot, nice colour clay, ours is like grey, not so attractive.....when I say our, I mean where I take classes. Nice guitar playing!

Simon nice, I never though of using a bottle cap. I do like the inlay, you should try using a heavy cobalt blue. I like it.

I use either a spoon or a flexible metal rib. The rid works great for external curves on large areas.

Great day for pottery inspirations with your video and a visit from Jefff of the Potter's Journal all the way from Pittsburgh, PA. this morning.

I actually use the wheel and a piece of plastic now, sometimes om4 or slip and get a super high shine.

Metal rib also works well for scraping off the excess slip when you're decorating carvings.

Отличная работа! У меня тоже штамп делает бугорок. Потому на мисках штамп не ставлю

Would it be easier to wax the rim first, then carve the decoration out, and add the slip?

Simon, question- did you have your garage insulated to be able to work in it? Did you do it yourself or hire a contractor? Thanks

SpellboundTonight - my studio was a garage but it was already insulated when I came here. Double up and over doors need to be shut tight in winter so drafts don't come/wind blowing etc ...Winter time is a challenge of course for us all here in the north east to stay warm and motivated ! Having a wood burning stove is a great comfort and gives a dry heat which is what we want for drying pots, and staying warm. I use foam mats on floor around table and sink so walking and standing and keeping feet warm is more comfortable. I have reasonably good light for working so I can see what I am doing. I have a sink which drains out on to a patch of garden behind some bushes, but I don't slush lots of clay down my sink but recycle it as I go. We have to make do with what we have do we not ? - SL

I use a smooth turquoise stone, one round and one oblong. They were cut and smoothed for jewelry. The work great.

Daniel Rogers - I was going to use white silica sand which you can buy from your pottery/clay supplier

When you use sand to stack your plates in the Kiln, what kind of sand do you use/buy?

I burnish with a silicone ‘blade’ which I cut from a spatula. It’s stiffer than a silicone rib.
