Awesome day. Thank you. I’m fishing Georgian Bay and likely doing it wrong. I’ve been 10-15 ft behind the flasher and 1-1/2 - 2 mile on the gps. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge!!!!!!

Well put together video Shaun. I love the shallow stager fishing and am always amazed at how early they start on the NS compared to my neck of the woods on the south shore.

Dude you need to get rid of the high vis catfish line
@eliedube
@eliedube 2 года назад
If it works it is not stupid. Actually catfish and chinook salmon are pretty similar in size and fighting power. Nothing better than a good stretchy line to keep a big fish button up.

Great to see you get into a few of them Shaun. This year they the water got cold close to shore early to mid August and drew the salmon in tight. Now it warmed back up again. The fish are getting coloured up and staging close by for their fall run. Always enjoy your videos especially salmon and steelhead. Hopefully I get out as well and start casting. Left you a big 👍. Nice video but some of your info is inaccurate. On the Canada side Lake Ontario approximately 80% of the Chinook Salmon run returning to eastern creeks is naturally reproduced in the eastern creeks. This is straight from the MNR info. Good luck in future videos.

Enjoy watching your videos Sean. Keep them coming. Like seeing your setup and tactics - always new stuff to learn. Ordered one of those mirrors to see how it goes on my 16 footer as I fish solo most of the time and am constantly turning back and forth to watch the rods and the road ahead. Great idea. If the test one works for me I’ll be ordering a second for a similar setup to yours.

Cheers Andy 👍 And yes, the mirrors work great, they are actually a bit like a wide angled lens, you can really see a lot with them. They are actually for spotting tubers and skiers, but work even better for fishing. Good luck out there mate 😁😎

Mnr did a study awhile back, pretty sure they said it was about 65% wild salmon in Duffins.

Awesome video Shaun. I've made a couple runs to the west of the lake with a little bit of success but nothing big yet. How long is your leader from the meat head to the flasher. Thanks in advance. Tom

Wow I'm surprised 30# Mono line. I'm new to getting into salmon fishing and I thought everything was either copper, lead core or braid line. Do you spoon the reels with a backer or just straight 30# mono?
@ShaunOutdoors
@ShaunOutdoors 5 лет назад
Alan, I use dypseys with Braid and roller eye rods with copper for other applications in the deeper open water. But for this I use heavy action rods with monofilament, and no backing, straight onto the reel. As you can see, it works. Cheers!

What reels are using for your downriggers CV45 ? Also what pound test and brand line etc?
@ShaunOutdoors

Hi Alan, I have listed all of the equipment in the description below the video, complete with links. The reels I use are Okuma Coldwater 453D. Cheers!
@alanmadison225
@alanmadison225 5 лет назад
@@ShaunOutdoors you talked me into trying the Okuma 453d. How much line do you spool onto it and do you calibrate the reel? Thanks again
@ShaunOutdoors
@ShaunOutdoors 5 лет назад
@@alanmadison225 I just spool and fill my reels right from the spool. The ones I listed in the description will fill one reel and some. I adjust the break and drag to my liking and that's about it. The reels are good to go right out of the box mate. Good luck, I think you will like and enjoy the reels... and the price is right for sure 👍

Hey Shaun. Nice tanks. I usually kayak fish the East end of Lake O, but just broke my leg. My question is, how late in the year would they stage before heading upstream. Just trying to see if I will heal enough to get out one more time. Thanks bud! Cheers
@ShaunOutdoors
@ShaunOutdoors 4 года назад
Hi Bryan, you can get them right into late September, even early October depending on the Temps. Hope your leg heals quickly mate, speedy recovery 👍

Shaun Rickard Thanks for the kind words and intel. Best case scenario is fall pike in Oshawa/Whitby. I’m up for what the lake offers bud! If you want a.three legged guy for fall salmon, let me know! Cheers

Hi Shaun, great videos mate. New to salmon fishing, what speed are you trolling with the flashers. Thanks Mike.

Hi there, thanks mate. With the meat I troll between 2.2 and 2.8 mph on the GPS, with flies and spoons about 2.5 to 3 mph, hope this helps 👍

Awesome vid shaun, im presently taking part in a salmon derby on GB and had a quick question. How far back can you safely send your flasher back from the ball without it making too big of a roll? I seem to be marking a lot of fish in the top 25 ft this year and would like to try using a meat rig with flasher in the shallower depths, while keeping back from the boat as far as i can. Any thoughts?
@ShaunOutdoors
@ShaunOutdoors 5 лет назад
Thanks Scott 👍😎 I have never really run them any further back more than 100 or so feet, but I'm pretty sure you could run them back further without affecting the roll. To be honest, I'm pretty sure the roll doesn't vary that much no matter how far back the flasher is, not that I have noticed anyway, and it works as you saw. Hope this helps 👍
@scottg156
@scottg156 5 лет назад
Its funny, ive heard people say the further back the flasher, the bigger the roll. In turn being less effective, but you've obviously proven that wrong, im going to give it a shot tomorrow evening. If i win the derby i guess ill owe you a beer haha
