Please show a fix for a Stilh 056 with a SEM ignition system that does not spark. No one else has done it..

I use the buddy method. Take your chainsaw wrench, and stick it into the spark plug boot,and ask your buddy to hold it for you. Pull the cord, and if he jumps then it's good. You got to be a likeable person though for this method, because you need a new buddy for every test.

When I was a kid my friends older brother told me to hold on to that wire while he pulled the start cord of the mini bike, lesson learned real quick, fasr forward several years to me setting the timing on my old ford truck, turning the distributor while it was running - lesson #2 learned

And hope the boot doesn’t have a tear 😂. I run a small jumper wire from ground terminal to head. Not to shocking on a small engine . But some of the old cars put out 50 thousand . Talk about smacking your head on an engine bonnet . Don’t ask how I know .

Most of the HEIs they cut down the voltage . Could be on the new computer ignitions they are back up there . I was working on medium duty chev trucks in early eighties , and the first high energy coils put out 80,000 . If the plug wire or plug went bad then the spark would blow the distributor cap apart , so they did a recall and changed them to 50,000 volt coils

I pull the boot, and put a screwdriver into it, then hold the screwdriver to the clean unpainted metal. saves pulling the plug.

I've got a spark plug that has an alligator clip welded onto it for testing. Works great for when you can't bend over to hold the spark plug and pull on the rope. They used to sell these test spark plugs. I've had mine for about 46 years. It came with my Foley Belsaw small engine training course which was popular back then.

I remember when out on a snowmobile trip one of the guy's kill switch stopped working...only way to shut off the machine was to quickly plug the sparkplug wire...he knew there was spark...lol

This is the method most use to see if there is spark. What it does not tell you is how good or strong your spark is...not well anyway. The issue, as I understand it, is that the spark behaves differently under pressure in the engine, than with the plug sitting outside your engine. You can get what looks like good spark out in the atmosphere, but is too weak within the engine. So I have heard. My solution was to make a tester out of a spark plug. I learned of this somewhere on the www over a decade ago. I soldered a ground wire with a clip to the body of the test spark plug, to connect to ground somewhere on the engine. I then removed the entire tip of the tester spark plug. The bent over end. Now a spark has to be good to make the bigger jump to the edge. You get good spark with this tester, you know there is still good spark when a plug is installed in your engine.

A thin layer of paint doesn't matter for the spark test. Just don't hold on the metal of the spark plug unless you'd like to have a jump start of your heart.

Hey Steve. You helped me out greatly the past couple of days with your videos. Thank you. My question is,......... I have a 20 year old mower that wasn't running at all. It sat for 6 years. I cleaned everything up and I'm still waiting on parts but I'm an impatient person so I'm running the mower with a torn carb gasket, dirty air filter, 10 year old fuel and clean oil. It runs perfect. I just wondered your thoughts on all that?? Why is it running so good?? Is it that if you clean everything up most machines will run good no matter what?? Also, I live in the mountains so I'm mowing tall grass, 2" sticks and rocks and dirt piles that create a huge cloud when i hit them. Nothing seems to stop it. Am I just lucky?? Just finished mowing 4 acres of rough land without a problem. Husqvarna 6522HS

My father was a great practical joker. He would bring a Ford tractor home from work so we could mow the lower field. I was a dumb kid back then. Dad would tell me to hold the plug wire so it wouldn't come off. Then he would hit the starter. Yep, felt like a solid thump. Did I say dumb? Yeah, took a few times for me to realize what he was doing.

You can touch your tongue to the plug and pull the pull cord briskly to check for spark. It works very well, sorta like peeing on an electric fence to see if the power is on…Ask me how I know😂

Yes, but it doesn't tell you that the plug is good even if it sparks. Sometimes the plug will fire when tested that way, but under pressure it won't. It's is somewhat rare though. At least this proves that the power is there to provide the spark and that's what the video is for. Right?

My mower is pressurizing is the gas tank, sputters, quits. Put on side to change oil and gas leaked out of carb and ruined filter., replaced oil but now won't run well gas bubbles. I need a mechanic., I messed it up. M320 CRAFTSMAN just bought it last year., hit a rock today bent blade at a 45 degree, and then it was smoking. Any help with those bubbles? What's clogged? and what do I do?

Or if you have an older engine without a spark plug boot you can just grab the end of the spark plug connecting wire and pull the starter rope....... if you scream and jump then it has spark hahaha Better yet, use a "friend" to grab the spark plug connecting wire 😜😯🤣

Failing that you can run start it, put it in gear and push it along until it fires. Hold the throttle wide open on the bastard. Make sure you have at least 6 beers before attempting this, and wear a crash helmet.
