Love that you are encouraging mamas that we are equipped to pick what’s best for our kids and not just follow the latest trends.

It is so great to hear from other families who have struggling learners! Time is key. I am holding off on "formal writing" with our youngest until around 5-6th grade, working on phonics and reading... and brushing through grammar. Slow and Steady. He loves books so we are adding in literature-based history, BFBooks, with 50 states from Notgrass. We are completely changing the way we lay out school this coming year and I hope I can spark some love of learning! Ty for sharing your family's needs and how you work through them.

You introduced me to Christian Light education and I am ever so grateful. I have definitely been distracted by the flashy new curriculum but the time tested ones seem to pan out best

Yes to personalizing the curriculum to fit each child’s needs! Also making sure that it’s a good fit for you as the homeschool mom is so important too. You only have so much time in the day to devote to all who need you. Thanks for this video Megan!

Love hearing your examples of how you do the journal with your kids!

I’m thankful there are lots of options, and it helps so much when we decide what OUR needs are and our CHILD’s needs. I wait on grammar and Spelling because it’s something they can do more individually as they get older, so I can take that off of my plate.

Thanks for this video! I was always confused on what should be included in LA for the younger years. It is great how you explained what age you introduced different topics.

I’d love a video that goes more in-depth into how you are using IEW. I’m really interested in using it but I get so confused trying to figure out what I need to get to use with them. Next year I will have a third and fourth grader (and a kindergartner but obviously she wouldn’t be doing this).

I’m interested in what you have chosen. I have gotten some reallly good experiences with some things but it’s always nice to hear other options. This was a great video! Thanks for helping

This is excellent! I love your point about what stage your child is at. Early elementary, they are more focused on reading and comprehension vs High school writing persuasive/research/creative papers.

When piecing together middle and high school English we used Fix it grammar and essentials in writing. Switching to TGATB late HS and VERY excited. You’re such a such mama 😍

This is very helpful to the homeschool community! I have found all of this to be true in my homeschool. I follow basically the same "scope & sequence" in teaching LA. What about handwriting? What's your method for teaching handwriting? Do you have a favorite curriculum for handwriting?

I love how you explained what you looked for in a Language Arts curriculum. I think it’s hard to know what to look for when it comes to Language Arts. The moms at our co-op struggle. They always ask me because I have an education background.

Thank you!! My son is great with math not so great with reading its like he knows all the letters and letter sounds we have worked on letter blends he does great but it's like he either lacks confidence or just doesn't want to or gets so frustrated at haveing to sound everything out idk. I can barely get him to write anything in his journal or read any sentences out his stories. And right now I'm he's technically going into 3rd grade but his reading is more 2nd grade with or k with the tgatb and I have no clue wat program to go to I luv tgatb I know he needs more teacher lead but I'm thinking abeka or just doing more of my own thing cuz idk wat level he'd be using for abeka. Also right now we r using spelling and language books 180 days and explode the code he luvs it I just need more sight words and not sure how to teach them to him netter. I'm not so big on spelling words really.

I love being able to choose each piece of curriculum based on my kids and how they learn best. So much better than when I taught public school and your curriculum was handed to you. 😂

Can you share some of your favorite literature/history readers for the Middle Aged kids?
@PenniesAndSalt
@PenniesAndSalt 2 года назад
Oh goodness! There are so many! I typically will draw ideas from the selections used by Sonlight, in our history curriculum My Father’s World, Heritage Mom Blog, and Biblioplan (the history we are moving to next year).

For history read alouds, do you assign additional independent history books for your older kids to read? I read everything to my kids because my 6th and 4th grade boys still struggle a bit with reading. But I'd love to find historical literature they can read alone, maybe at a 3rd or 4th grade level. Any good resources for that? We're just finishing US History WWII time period.

Yes! A great place to go for ideas is to see what readers Sonlight has for their different levels of history. Typically on their website you can choose the grade level of reading and it will have a list of the books suggested 😉
