Yes, I was 50 years old when I was choosing a law school to attend. Today I share my thoughts about how I chose what law school to attend. Reasons why you may choose one law school over the other. How to find out what the requirements are at various law schools for acceptance rates. What do you need for a recommendation and how to write a personal statement. #lawschool #nontraditional #lawstudent #lsat #study #personalstatement #recommendationletters #stats #Scores #lsac

Takes courage because I get discouraged at the fact that I am 26 and currently studying for my LSAT. I’ll be applying in the next cycle so in essence I’ll be 27 going into law school as a 1L; thus graduating at 30 years old. Thank you for making this video as being in law school in my late 20’s would be something to that I’m not used to as usually I’m used to seeing people my age in class.

@lynneandrew2448 6 месяцев назад
You are not going to feel out of place at 27, since that is the average age of 1L and 2L students. You’ll be with your peers and fit in just fine. Myself, I’ll be 47 when applying, so old enough to be the parent of the majority of 1L and 2L students. Graduating at 30 gives you PLENTY of productive decades ahead of you.

@@lynneandrew2448 thank you for the kind words. I guess I just get a little discouraged sometimes because of me being in my late 20’s and not applying sooner

You’ll have the same thoughts in 5-10 years anyway, and then you’ll realize you were still really young at 30 years old anyway. Do not get discouraged, you have the present right now and that is all that matters.

Can you do a short video about why you personally chose to go to law school? And how long you've wanted to go? And what made now the right time? Thank you so much. All of your content is really helpful and I love following your stories on Instagram!

I'm uploading a video today that shares some of this. Hopefully you can watch. I didn't mention in this video why now was the right time but it coincided with my move to Houston due to a family health related need. Once I moved here from Nashville, that changed my life dramatically and opened up the door for me to go to law school. It's been a huge blessing.

Thanks for posting this. I am doing an online law school next year here in California, which will allow me to sit for the California bar. The older you get, the less you care about a brick and mortar. I've been there and done that so my only concern is learning the law and sitting for the bar. But I've also leaned there are community programs you can be involved in as an online student to get some experience in the field. For example, my DA and PD office in my county does community law student volunteer programs. Can't wait to see more videos from you.

What online school are u doing and is it criminal justice or legal studies
@poet82n
@poet82n 8 месяцев назад
@@PAPERWEIGHTPRODUCTIONS It's not criminal justice or legal studies. It's an actual law school that prepares you for the bar and you earn your JD degree. To my understanding, you can't sit for the bar with a criminal justice degree or legal studies certification. The one I'm attending is law school but online. You study the same material as brick and mortar schools... criminal, torts, civil procedure etc. The school is called NWCU. Hope this helps.

Thanks for another video! I am a non traditional applicant and looking for hybrig programs so I know about some of the online programs but I did not know that recently even more schools have jumped on board. I will have to look into that! Thanks!

Absolutely research to find the new online programs. My advice is to find a traditional school offering the online programs and not a completely online school. The completely online schools are typically not the ABA approved programs. Even with online programs they typically still require some on-campus attendance, such as a week of orientation. If you can make a hybrid program work for you, it's a huge advantage for the working adult (or even the stay at home Mom who really wants that law degree!)

Don't let that stop you. Your application will be reviewed as a whole: LSAT, GPA, personal statement and recommendations. Just tell your story and give the sales pitch that shows law schools why they should want you as a student.

Thank you for sharing your experience as a non-traditional law student. I am turning 50 in May and about 2 weeks ago, I made the decision to take the LSAT and apply to law school. The last time that I took the LSAT was about 20 years ago and then right after undergrad. Surprisingly, my score was the same for both tests (142). Do you have any tips on how to study for the LSAT to improve my score. My goal is to score between 175-179; I would like to get a full ride if possible :)
@vanessamaxlaw
@vanessamaxlaw 8 месяцев назад
Each person is going to be different. I won't say it's impossible to go from a 142 to a 170+ but that's a big leap in capacticy for the skills the LSAT tests. I would say if the full ride option with a score in the high 170s is a non-negotiable for you, then just start studying now and know that it may take at least a year or more to move that score up significantly. That said, I've heard they are removing the logic games from the LSAT so that may change the WHAT they are testing and getting the score up may be easier. There are several LSAT prep programs. For sure use one of them. They all have their benefits. Best wishes in your journey. You sound determined and that's a huge part of what it takes!

There is no real prerequisite for undergrad study concentration for entering law school. Law school is its own beast and everyone starts out learning how to learn the law.
