I applaud you for not using a chain saw. They damage the tree as they are too aggressive. It does make a huge mess so I usually clean as I go.

I did landscaping in CT before moving down to central Florida thanks to this video I now know how to prune Robellini’s. I just finished a job today and the clients loved it. They were badly neglected with a lot of old seed pods and not much of the trunk exposed. Now they look great!

I live in a park in FL. I just walked across the street and did my neighbors Pygmy Palm for free, just for the Lulz. It turned out looking great! I used a battery reciprocating saw and only had a hose for cleanup. See what you started!? Good man.

My roebelenii palm is getting very tall and is leaning quite a bit. Should I support the base so that it doesn't break in a strong storm, or even on it's own weight?

The Sykes plant in my home garden was planted 13 years ago. It used to send leaves twice in the same year. I sent leaves twice, but the leaves did not complete growth, knowing that I fertilize it with organic fertilizer in the fall season.

Dang! These things have 3 inch needles on them that are sharp!

I have some of these and they’ve become very top heavy. One of them actually fell over and broke at the trunk. Is this common? How can I prevent this from happening to my other ones? The tree was planted in the ground outside. It was about 8-9ft tall. And it has never been cleaned like you show. They were planted many years ago.

Looks great. Have you ever had a palm die from a tight high trim? I took the FL Best Green Practice Class at the University of Florida and they say trimming off green palm frowns for a high tight look is bad for the palms health. What's your opinion?

I use the tip of my arborist chainsaw to shape the cones. Takes a little practice but it makes quick work of the job. I use pruners for final clean up. Definitely have to have a tarp on the ground :)

I do Roebelini palm trims all the time. My favorite palm to professionally trim. Please try using a chainsaw to Pretty up the heads then fine tune with loppers. Will cut your time in half

Thanks, that's the palms I have, cleaning them up tomorrow.

Unfortunately that's not the way to do a proper pruning on ANY type of palm-trees! And you shouldn't be using a saw on it either... Instead you should be using a very sharp blade sort of a sickle. Another common mistake is the overpruning of the fonds... You shouldn't be cutting them over the horizon line. You have the passion, I give that!

Just planted a Pygmy Date Palm with 3 trunks. The video was helpful. What about the green leaves that were "hanging"? Was that a volunteer parasite?

This is fine if you are a person without a chainsaw, so if you are educating homeowners I understand, but as a professional, this takes way too long. Just grab a chainsaw and shave the tree up it comes out much nicer and is more efficient.

My arms itch like crazy for days after I trim these things. Are there little bugs or parasites in that brown mossy stuff you're trimming away?
