Great video thanks however washing the grates in your window well is a really bad idea. That water sits there and the only place for it to go is eventually inside your house

Definitely NOT the right way to put the liner on the drip pan... you also didn't clean the RTD Probe!

Are you sure? Having also put the liner on with the logo upright, I had grease go underneath it! With the logo upside down this will protect the drip edge. So looks correct to me.

@@doomkeepercanada do you have the 1300? Just wondering because I have (without the initial start up with the seasoning) 9 hrs on this brand new $2000 grill and Traeger said they are sending me a replacement prob. To early in this supposedly bad boys life to have to have warranty parts sent to me!!!!😢

@@alaneiler2361 Yes I do have the 1300 and they are also sending me a replacement. The internal paint on the grease trap on mine actually seemed to burn and flake after a similar amount of cooking. I had meticulously cleaned it too.

@@doomkeepercanada I appreciate your quick response man! I do feel better about it that someone unfortunately is going through the same thing. Is that the reasoning Traeger gave you or did you just figure it out by yourself if you don’t mind me asking?

@@alaneiler2361 No worries man. Here's as much detail as I can remember. On my 3rd cook, the foil liner that came with it had got gross from pork ribs and I decided to switch out it for a layer aluminum foil, which is what lots of people on the internet suggested was better anyway. I cleaned all surfaces as I had managed to get grease under under the provided liner (because I think it was upside down, per original comment). I did a double wrap of the foil, which I think was my mistake as it was bulky around the edges. I did check the air gaps by feeling with my fingers, but that probably wasn't sufficient. I started a pre-programmed cook which started with a sear at 450F. A little after 15mins of preheat, it had only reached 300F, there was more smoke than there should be. In fact as I examined the exhaust smoke there were little embers coming out. I immediately put it into shutdown. On examination the foil had melted into strands at back of the grill and the grease trap at the front and drain down into drip tray had had flaked all the paint and was burnt away. This was very clean when I started as I had just cleaned it for fear of a fire, so definitely wasn't a grease fire. I called Traeger and showed them photos of the damage and they immediately said that it was their fault and the paint should not do that. In hindsight, I think the foil wasn't heavy duty enough and was likely blocking airflow around the back of the grill where I had double wrapped it, maybe directing heat into the grease trap(?) which I don't think can manage the full force of the heat from the blower. I have since read on Reddit that when doing higher temperatures >350F, you shouldn't use the liner or foil anyway, but my grill never got that high. I think going forward I'll probably opt for the more expensive OEM foil liners, correctly inserted, instead of messing with foil. Or maybe my grill was just from a bad batch.
