I want to thank you Simon. I have been trying to develop a book and after watching your video, I came up with a theme and how to make it work for my project.
Gathering Time has been a source of Inspiration to my own Woodland photography, especially after my Workshop with you. I have come to compose my Images more freely, concentrating rather on the bigger Scene and its mood than on a single element. It has been changing my Style of photography in a way I really appreciate.
It was good to hear your thoughts and progress behind the the book I really enjoyed reading it when I bought when I have some time over the festive period I will need to get it down from the book shelf and have another read.
Your book is honestly awe inspiring, from the quality of the printing/processing of the images to the storytelling of the text. It's made me think a lot about how I present and talk about my own photography even when just uploading online I briefly had a chat with you when I picked up a copy earlier in the year at the BBQ in Laskill and I literally went out the next day scouting for woodland locations locally. I've found places I didn't even know existed and I'm really enjoying a new photography challenge and just spending more time in these places. I can't recommend it enough for anyone looking for some inspiration in this area of photography or just photography/art in general!
Your photographs have had great appeal to me from day 1 of watching your vlogs. The photography was for me the main method of receiving a message. Today however I realized what a powerful message you put forward with the spoken word. Bonus! Thanks Simon.
Thank you for sharing this Simon. Your book is such a joy to immerse yourself in. Your writing fits so beautifully with your photography, the book flows so well, and the design has a wonderful, open feel to it that fits perfectly with your style. I decided a few months ago to start putting together a book, thinking it's something I can work on over a couple of years to create, and it's amazing how curating your work into something cohesive that tells a story makes it come alive! I didn't really know what the over-arching theme of the book was when I began but once I started putting it together a working title emerged on its own and has given the project more focus and made me really love working on it. Your thoughts have given me some things to ponder, particularly around chapter themes, so thank you for giving me more food for thought. And thank you for the delight your book brings to read!
I thought your book was incredible anyway Simon, but hearing you explain the thoughts and processes you went through to achieve it, is even more inspiring. Your book truly will stand the test of time and to anybody who doesn't already have a copy, I would urge you to pick one up.
Thank you, Simon! This video is very inspirational to me. I think your vision on doing things that you are truly passionate about don't only apply to photography but to life in general, also to other jobs. I think this is what I needed to hear right now because I am facing some decisions I have to make.

Your book is fabulous as are your photos. Thanks for your thought on the process of publishing a book, I recognize a lot from when I did my own book, a much smaller project than yours, but as exciting, stressful and satisfying as you describe.
Beautiful images and I am sure your book is outstanding, however I am sure its challenging to create a sustainable business with a niche genre. I have followed you for a number of years and I wish you all the best for 2023.

Hi Simon , I am aware of the extreme difficulty in creating a book like Gathering Time and I admire your determination and lucidity in doing this, but the result is something that will last until there will be humans that love woodland , good photos and persons like you that successful devoted their lives in doin' that I wish you and your family and Meg a Merry Chirtmas and happy new year ( I've had a little trouble in translating my thoughts but I hope that you understand that my heart is there)
Not sure if I ever congratulated you on releasing a book Simon, so huge congratulations :) The book seems beautiful and inspiring, and made for the right reasons. Which is key. I will add it on my whishlist for the holidays, hehe. I also just released my first photobook, and it's a collaboration with a poet I know. He wrote poems for 44 of my photographs and it was a moving experience for me as a photographer. You often wonder if you manage to convey feelings in a photography, and to see a fellow human connect to many of the same emotions was powerful. And what you said about having a local printer, I'll sign under on that. Made all the differece. I think I ran a total 4 testprints, they were very patient, hehe! I loved my copy of Gathering time, Sadly I was recently moving house and had it packed away in a box in my garage. There was a big storm and the roof leaked. I found the box the next day and saw that it was soaking wet. My copy of Gathering Time was on the top and was drenched. The cover absorbed most of the water so is completely ruined. The only good thing is that it was on top of my wedding album and managed to shelter that from the storm.
Fantastic insight into the creation of your book Simon..I will soon be ordering a copy for myself as I love your channel and I love woodland photography myself 😊 On a side note I have my first exhibition in January albeit a small one and super excited 😊
