Gorgeous setup! 😁I was overthinking a barrel pond I wanted to put together, so this was a much needed inspiring reminder that you only need what you have and a little bit more to make something very pretty! 🥰🌱🐸🐦🦋
I'm so sorry it has taken me a while to reply, but I have been rather busy decorating! 🤦♀️ Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm so pleased that I may have given you some inspiration to create your own unique wildlife pond. Take care, Annie 🐸🐚🪸🐞 🐝 🌱
This is great! We have an Ikea 'farmhouse' sink we scored, hoping to have used it in a kitchen remodel, but it wasn't to be. Rather than part w/the sink, it's now sitting in our backyard. I need to double check if it's cracked and if so, seal it up and plug the drain. If that holds water, I'm off to the races! Thank you for this inspiration! I love your garden.
Subscribed as this just popped up on my watch, I've just got into gardening this year as i've been off work through depression and anxiety, i've done well but i've also wanted to put a wildlife pond so i was given a babies bath and this has given great ideas... Thank you.
Heyyyy there, i also got into gardening in 2021 when i moved into my rental that had a yard and it has been sooo cathartic for me. It’s like a therapy session at times, just being out there in the sun and wind, using my hands and putting all my thoughts and energies into figuring out what they need and where to put things. It’s a great distraction. I’ve also been obsessing over making a small pond and would love to see what you do if you make something 😌
@@trixie1636sincere apologies as I have only just seen this! I'm so glad that you are enjoying your space and the peace and calm it is bringing you!😊 Take care, Annie 🐞 🐝 🌱
Loved watching you create this pond. Such an essential addition to any garden. Also, anyone who gives up their seat for their dog is my kind of person!
A butler sink pond is lovely and so good for garden wildlife. I made one a couple of years ago using the large rubber plug and silicone sealant just like yours - but sadly it started leaking in the winter, just a little at first but recently a lot. We have taken everything out today and moved it all to buckets. We found that the rubber plug has degraded and failed in the middle. We are going to use a fast setting cement to create a more permanent seal on the plug. I hope yours has faired better.
Ho Matk, What a shame that happened. I used a universal silicone plug. It has remained good since Sumner 2021. I recently cleaned the pond out to move it, and the plug is as good as new. I highly recommend them amzn.eu/d/bQpe27r Take care, Annie 🐞 🐝 🌱
Perfect timing. Just in from the garden for a cuppa & there you were. What a beautiful wildlife pond you have created. Very inspiring, thank you for sharing x
Hi Katelyn, Welcome to my little garden! I have been encouraging the local birds for many years now. I think the most important thing to remember if you do start feeding them...is to be consistent, as they do come to rely on the offerings. So I make sure I top up all my feeders every morning without fail. In fact, my feathered friends all line up on my fence each morning, specifically waiting for me to put out their breakfast!! You have just given me food for thought, though! They do feature in my videos from time to time, but I may just do a special edition purely dedicated to the birds. So, thank you for the inspiration.🙏 Take care, Annie 🐞 🐝 🌱
I made my wildlife pond out of an old tin bath! Years ago I bought a frog-bit plant and got just 2 leaves 😯🥴 so you did really well with yours. I had loads of dragon flies, foxes and many birds visiting my pond until ext doors fence flattened it
🥰Beautiful 😍 I love the pond. Your voice is very calm and soothing to listen to. This is my first year growing in the garden and we have just been discussing a wildlife pond. so thank you for all your advice hints and tips. 😍
I remember watching this ages ago and liking it😚. Im going to build one from an old belfast sink i picked up. It would be great to see how yours has flourished. Thanks for sharimg luvvy 👌😉 i will subscribe... Hope you are well, u seem like a lovely calm lady with a good🙏 spirit
Thank you Annie for sharing your pond project! What a wonderful addition to your lovely garden. I look forward to seeing how it progresses, all the best from Massachusetts!
Morning....yes, there will be a follow-up soon. It did really well in its first year, but unfortunately, I had to move the pond in the autumn when I remodeled the garden, so I had to empty it. Now spring is here, I shall be setting it up again over the coming weeks. So watch this space. Take care, Annie 🐞 🐝 🌱
Such a pleasure to watch this lovely lady creating a beautiful wildlife pond in such an incredible garden. Thank you so much for sharing. A very dear friend has just created a wildlife pond for me in my garden. Happy Days x
Perfect! Got an old sink very similar with '1932' on the base. It's moved 3 times with me & now I'm at my forever home I'd like to make it into a pond just like this one. I try not to encourage birds as such more bugs & bee's as I have a maniac cat who definitely isn't bird friendly. Thankyou so very much for this video 🌟
Looks wonderful! Very creative. I will make one here in Australia. Just waiting for my children to grow a bit as I feel nervous having a body of water in the back yard.
This is a really helpful video thank you! I’ve been researching mini ponds and today’s the day I start making mine. Really glad I found your video before heading off to the garden centre for plants 😄
hi, just stumbled upon your channel. Such a sweet little pond. Cant wait to see what it attracts. Love the glimpses of your garden. And your sweet pup. Going to check out more of our videos.🤗
New subscriber here,Fabulous little video,The pond looks great,I have 2 belfast sinks in my garden which i turned into little ponds but one day i will move them to a more suitable place in the garden as where they are isn`t really ideal as they are mainly under a Elderberry tree. John "Cuckoopatch".
Thank you... this did really well until this winter. I think the plummeting temperatures was quite detrimental to some of the plants. It does need a clean now, which I shall be doing in the next couple of weeks, so there will be another follow up soon. Take care, Annie 🐞 🐝 🌱
This is such a gorgeous video, so calming and relaxing to watch - thankyou! I'm just about to start creating my own sink pond this week, thankyou for all the advice! ❤ P. S. Can we have an update on what the pond is like now please? X
Thank you so much, Rachelle! I hope your new pond gives you many years of pleasure! You may like to watch this.... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PJaOtpuhYtg.html Take care, Annie 🐞 🐝 🌱
Good morning Kate, I think as it is deep enough for your plants roots to be submerged and you ensure it doesn't evaporate too much, it should be fine. The birds will love it, and the tiny creatures will come. Just give it a go and enjoy! Take care, Annie 🐞 🐝 🌱
This is just perfect! I'm moving into my new home on Friday and its got an empty butler sink which I'm really looking forward to making into a wildlife pond. You're video has really helped me, thankyou 😊 I've only got a patio which I'm going to have lots of pots on and to have a pond too us fabulous 😍
Hello Annie !! you have such a beautiful garden and your aura and personality is so calming and beautiful 🪷 I’ve recently laid out my own miniature nature pond and your video was very helpful , definitely following your channel for garden inspiration. Wishing you the best :)
Good morning Sophie, Wow, such praise... Thank you so much and welcome! I'd love to know how your pond is settling? Hopefully, it will give you many hours of pleasure!! Take care, Annie 🐞 🐝 🌱
Hi ! I enjoyed watching it, I'm gonna have a look if you have any updates, how the sink and wildlife did during winter. I really want a small pond but still need to learn about it, how to keep a good balance water/mosquitoes etc
Good morning...my apologies, as I have only just seen your comment.....but thank you for your interest. I haven't done a follow-up of the pond specifically, but I did empty and clean it late autumn (Episode 10: Moving The Pond), as I had to move it. I will probably do a new video in the spring when I replant it up again. Take care, Annie 🐞🐝🌱
Can’t tell you how helpful this is. I have developed a green thumb now in my late 30’s and my plants have been going well but I wanted to add a pond. I plan to put in a solar filter. Can I ask if you have found it might need one or are the plants you used designed for the same purpose? Cheers from Brisbane Australia 🇦🇺
Apologies for the delay in replying, but I have been away on holiday. I only have plants and tiny creatures in my pond, so there had been no need of a filter. Hope that makes sense? Take care, Annie 🐞🐝🌱
Searching for how to make a pond for frogs and I loved your video, I’m now subscribing and can’t wait to watch more. Do you have an update on the pond?
Good evening Dotty and welcome! I recently moved the pond and in order to do so was forced to empty it. I do have plans, but wont being doing any updates on the pond until a little further into the spring. Until then have fun creating your own and watch this space!!! Take care, Annie
Good morning Natalie, I haven't so far other than remove a small amount of blanket weed from time to time. It appears that the snails and other little creatures are doing a good job! 😊
Thank you for this video! I’ve just today started on a butler sink in my garden, a project for my daughter and I. Hoping for some nice wildlife to spot and also just a calming water feature for the patio.
Oh that is wonderful...your daughter will find lots to look at! One thing I would suggest, and that I hadn't considered is to wash any plants before you introduce them to your pond. Particularly look for micro strands of blanket weed...Once you've got it, you can't get rid of!!! I'm picking it out daily!! Have Fun and enjoy.😊🪳🐚🐸🌱
Thank you for the tip! We’re going to look at plants tomorrow so I’ll make sure we pay close attention and wash before adding them in. We spent this afternoon scrubbing stones we’d collected from the garden beds to put in the bottom! We’re going to be expert cleaners soon! 😂
Hi Annie how are your water lilies doing in this bucket pond? I am also in a process to build one but curious whether water lilies survive in bucket or not
Hi there....well they have survived the winter and there are some new shoots appearing, so it does appear to be happy! I will do an update in my next video. 😊 Good luck with yours. What I would say though, is wash and pick over any new plants thoroughly before introducing them into your pond. I didn't and now have loads of blanket weed, which I am forever removing...but it just keeps growing!
I've just come across your post and subscribed. I'm very new to gardening. We have two dogs who will go to the water! Will it be safe for them to drink? Thank you. 😊
Hi Suzanne, Dogs!!! They really don't care, do they?🥰😁 But...They will be fine, especially as there is no need for any chemicals. Mine drinks from puddles if I let him...he's 161/2 years old now and still going strong. Take care, Annie 🐞 🐝 🌱
@@annieskitchengarden818 okie doke that's brilliant thank you. 😁 I've cleaned out an inherited milk churn lid that was full of stagnant water, I've cleaned the stones that were in there, now I need it to rain 🤣🤣🤣. Thank you for your reply xx
Generally no...but you might before it gets too cold if you want to clean the pond out. In nature the plants would just die back and re emerge in the spring.
The mini pond was great, but I ended up remodelling my garden about 18 months later, so it needed to be emptied to move it There is a follow up here... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PJaOtpuhYtg.htmlsi=2GYbRm1W-hJALSmF Take care, Annie 🐞 🐝 🌱
Morning Lindsey, Mine is rather dormant at the moment. I had to empty it during the winter to move it. I'm waiting for better weather to replant it as one of the original plants I introduced last year had blanket weed. I thought I had been vigilant, but the problem got so bad I had to cut my losses. I would advise anyone introducing new plants to pick them over with a fine tooth comb before introducing an unwanted problem. But, experience teaches you. Besides that, it was a lovely addition to the garden. The birds loved it and I was surprised at the variety of bugs and other critters that visited it too! Take care, Annie 🐞 🐝 🌱
@@annieskitchengarden818 Thanks Annie, I bought a sink from a salvage yard today. Just finished cleaning it up so will be collecting rain water & getting it set up soon. Thanks very much for your advice on the plants! Best wishes x
Morning, it has settled nicely. I have a lot of larve and I introduced an army of daphnia. The plants are doing well, but I do have an issue with blanket weed, which I am removing almost every day. I have yet to have any exciting visitors as yet, but the birds seem to love it. I will do an update in my next video. 😊
Great video thank you 😊 I've just got a second hand baby bath to make a pond. How is yours coming along? Any wildlife? Are the plants keeping it clean?
Hi Nicola, the pond seems to have survived the winter. I have various snails and other little critters and the birds love it too. The plants have been dormant throughout the winter, but are gradually coming back to life now. I have 3 or 4 water lily leaves starting to unfurl and the water is fairly clear. I think that will improve once all the plants have revived. 😊
Really helpful video. Just doing one in a Belfast sink myself. My question is, did you attract much wildlife and would you have done anything differently if you’d done it again. I’ve dug a hole for the sink and it will be difficult to get it back out so I feel like I only have one crack lol.
Apologies Tom as I have only just seen this. The pond is doing great, with lots of little creatures and snails...also the birds love it too. However, it is sitting proud of the ground and so I have no amphibians. The one piece of advice I am offering to everyone is before you introduce any plants, check for the minute strands of blanket weed. Hold the plants up to the light to spot the very fine hairs and remove them, then check again and again. Hornwort was the culprit in my case as it is really hard to spot all of the 'hairs' I clearly didn't pay enough attention to this and now have a real problem with the stuff. I regularly remove quite a bit, but can never seem get rid of it. Otherwise, enjoy....😊🐸🦎🐚🪴
Hi there, can I ask where you got your silicone plug? I can only find a 6 inch one that will be far too big as the hole is quite close to the side of the sink. Thanks in advance xx
Good afternoon Amy. The silicon plug came from amazonwww.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0774Q5VW2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share But there are many others such as... amzn.eu/d/7nUFQjj which you could seal in place with aquatic sealant. Hope that helps? Annie 🐸
@@annieskitchengarden818 thanks Annie! Unfortunately those are too wide for my sink, weirdly! I've attempted a plastic pot saucer, upside down which I have siliconed in place. Going to wait to let it set and see if it is water tight tomorrow! Do you have an update on your pond? Has anyone moved in?
That should work! I have lots of little creatures and different types of snail, but no amphibians as it is above ground. The birds love it tho' One bit of advice, wash and check and then wash and check again any plants you introduce, for stands of blanket weed. I clearly hadn't checked mine enough and a year on I have a constant battle with the stuff!!! All the best Annie 🐸
Good morning... The universal plug was from amazon: BTSKY 2 pack 6 Inches Universal Silicone Rubber - Tub Stopper Drain Plug Cover For Kitchen Bathroom Sink Bathtub Drain Cover, Travel Silicone Rubber Drain Plug, White amzn.eu/d/cRpRvO1 And, the silicon sealant was from a local aquatic centre, but I have found it on amazon: Gold Label Underwater One Shot Sealant, 75 ml, Black amzn.eu/d/aX4TUkd Hope that helps. Annie 🐸🐞🐝🌱
Hi Annie. I am a new subscriber. I am trying to remember the name of the red flowering climber in the beginning of this video. Can you help me out with that? Greetings.
Hello and welcome. Evaporation is a real issue at the moment....so trying to keep it topped up is quite tricky as using freshly run tap water is not a good idea. My water butt is empty and any buckets I fill to stand for a few days are evaporating too. Otherwise. It has been teaming with wildlife. Not amphibians as it is above ground level, but many little critters and snails. The birds love it too.
Please don't wash the beneficial Bacteria off, you will need it. That's what will keep your pond clean. It's not the same as lg It's not the same as srting algae or green water algae.
If you were anywhere near me, I would have gifted you a mini water lily variety to replace the one you've got. You need at least 500 liters of water just for that.
@@annieskitchengarden818 real miniature and dwarf varieties can be planted even in rice bowls. With 5-8cm leaves and flowers at the size of coins. The one they sold you is a common sized.
Hi Kerry, Take a look at about 1:37.... I used a silicon universal sink plug together with an aquatic sealer. www.amazon.co.uk/Silicone-Universal-Kitchens-Bathrooms-Laundries/dp/B08Y7NQDGN/ref=sr_1_6?
@@annieskitchengarden818 thank you. I ended up using an aquatic putty to block the plug hole, followed by a sink plug covered in more aquatic putty which had a piece of slate fixed over it with the putty. Solid as a rock and no leaks! So far so good!
