In today's furniture makeover, I share how I gave this dresser a Pottery barn wood look on a budget using glaze and Annie Sloan Chalk paint. I was inspired by Black Sheep House in a recent video and had to try this. This is a very easy and beginner friendly furniture flip. You'll get an up close look at the technique I use to achieve this high-end look. Enjoy the journey xx

When you showed the staging pic, I had a sense of peace and calm... perfect for a bedroom! You did a great job with this technique, looks beautiful! Live videos are fun and interesting for the viewers but I understand completely how nerve wracking it can be for the creator. Wait til you're ready and remember your viewers love you and any "oops" moments are things we can all relate to and learn from! 😍👍💖

I am an introvert so starting this channel was definitely a surprise to myself and people who know me. So thank you for seeing that…the courage it took to start this. I’m so sorry for the anxiety and depression. Thank you for sharing that with me I’m humbled you’d do that and want you to know it’s not lost on me. I appreciate your encouragement as i inch my way closer to not caring and diving into lives…possibly 😬

Sarah! What a beautiful finish! I didn't know about this but would like to try it in the future. Just a question...would it be helpful to cut a wallpaper brush into smaller pieces for the tight spaces and spaces that are difficult to use a full brush? Once again, wonderful job!!!
@VintageAndPainted
@VintageAndPainted 2 года назад
Thanks for that Kathryn. You know its funny you should suggest that. After I did this piece I actually cut the brush in half for another project coming up. Its definitely handy in those tighter spaces but think I'll get a full size one because that is handy for the bigger surfaces. Have a lovely weekend

Hi there, new to finishing furniture, did you put the stain by rustoleum down before the primer? Or did you out 2 coats of primer down before you did the stain?
@VintageAndPainted
@VintageAndPainted Год назад
The stain doesn't need primer under it just the paint needs primer. Stain is to bring out the grain of the wood. Hope this helps. Wishing you success as you continue to refinish furniture.

Very nice.. I see a lot of the dup videos. I don't understand what so special about pottery barn and anthropologie.
@galady8632
@galady8632 2 года назад
I may be incorrect but here's my thoughts. I have known people that are very 'Brand Focused' - if an item wasn't a popular and/or pricey brand name it was somehow beneath them. The Pottery Barn and Anthropology stores tend to stock higher priced items. They both have a 'look' or 'style' - that trend currently appeals to many. I do not wear my clothes inside-out so brand names do not impress me. Personally I am thankful it isn't the oh-so-disposable, flat-stacked in boxes pressed wood furniture that easily busts when assembled. I believe landfills will soon be full of shredded wood and glue formerly known as furniture.
@VintageAndPainted
@VintageAndPainted 2 года назад
Well I think they have some influence over trends in peoples homes bc of their popularity and that would be a reason for dupe videos. For me they are out of my budget so being able to copy a look is fun and great way to save $$

@VintageAndPainted
@VintageAndPainted 2 года назад
Ahhhh thank you and you are so lovely!!! I’m glad you like the piece! The glaze is an agent that keeps the paint from drying quickly. It’s called open time which lets you play with the paint and create to look your going for. I think there is a measurement but I usually eye ball it. I think this was 2 parts paint to 1 part glaze. 😆 hope that helped

What proportions of chalk paint graphite, honfluer and old ochre did you use to achieve the finish color? I saw the previous comment about the paint to glaze ratio, but wanted to know about the paint color proportions. I love the finish color. Nice work!
@VintageAndPainted
@VintageAndPainted 2 года назад
Honestly I don’t measure 😬 I’m the same way when I cook 😆 I just mix until I like the colour. Sorry I know that’s not what you were hoping for. I can say it was mostly Honfluer and kept adding small amounts of graphite to darken it and then it was the same when I added Old Orche to lighten it…I just kept adding until I like the colour. So maybe start with Honfluer and graphite and once you like that add the old ochre.

You have done a fine job and you are clearly a talented creator. Its nice to see an Australian on RU-vid with furniture. I am Seaford Victoria myself. Anyone local that wants to share or talk projects let me know. I have taught people before myself, but love this word of inspiration.

Hi Sarah. Wondering if I can use a product from valspar....the Clear MIXING Glaze. Ordering it from lowes (we do not have a lowe's in our area) thanks so much. I know how busy you are. This piece inspired me!!

Thanks Joanne appreciate that. I love hearing from fellow Aussies…it feels like home 🥰 not sure if you’ve watched another vid…in a couple of them I did an intro where I say I live in the USA now with my fam. So chatting with Aussies brings an extra big smile 😃

@@VintageAndPainted I’m watching all of your videos now. I had a laugh when you had to explain in one of them what “wop wop” meant 😂 I knew straight away but I’m sure people in America were wondering what it meant. Hope you’re enjoying living over there. Hi Sarah WOW I really really like this piece the finish is gorgeous I live the colour and love the changes you made to it two that middle section loke so so much better it sets the whole piece if with the finish, very highend looking piece , I would live to see a live but I can't get community pate on my tab it won't allow it, and I get your nervous but Sarah you would do so well with a live you just gotta pick a day and time set up and hit that button , I'm 100%sure all your subs will be there I know I definitely will if it's on this channel stay up for it but seriously you'd knock it out the park, I think you would do better than you think, looking forward to your next piece take care lovely Mary in Australia 🌻😘♥️

Hi Mary. Hope you are well…staying warm. I talked to mum and dad and they were both under blankets they said it was really cold 😊 and then my brothers family are in Queensland and in shorts 🤣 I’m so happy you feel this way. This piece was so easy that I felt like I was cheating somehow, very different to the pieces I demo before refinishing 😆 If I ever did do a live they would be up for whom ever to see. I’m so sorry that you can’t see the community tab on your page. I wish I could help but I’m not super savvy when it comes to tech…I could build you a bench 😏😉 but internet stuff 🫣 not great at it. Have a beautiful week Mary lots of love Sarah

@@VintageAndPainted yep its so so cold here I feel it's the coldest winter we've had in years actually 3 weeks before snow season opens there were heavy falls and flurries at 600 feet ,yep its freezing, toyr brother and fam are so lucky I'd love to be in Queensland about now too😅, ,hope all your family are well the floods in NSW a really bad I feel awful for those out of homes and or power at the moment, Ahh but that's the thing what may feel easy to you isn't to me and besides it's not how hard or easy the piece is to work on its what you do and well you do magic weather it's a hard piece or easy 😘♥️

Could you give an approximation of the ratios you used for the mix? Thank you! Kona
@VintageAndPainted
@VintageAndPainted 2 года назад
Hey Kona So you don’t need a 50/50 mix you can actually use less glaze to paint. So probably I would use 2 parts paint to 1 part glaze. If you are mixing your own paint colour do that first. And if you end up with (let’s say for example) 16oz of paint I would pour in 8oz of glaze. The glaze is just there to extend the dry time so you can work with it and give it texture. Does that make sense? Hope it helps.

It's BEAUTIFUL and BIG! The color of the glaze is the Best! I just turned my old and cheap (laminate top and Mdf) kitchen table into a coffee table for my living room by shortening the wooden legs and using this technique to make it look like the wooden base of my coach. It turned out awesome. The only different thing I did is using gel stain instead of glaze. Really injoyable process. All the furniture pieces transformations I did for my home were possible because of all you guys that share your work and knowledge! THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING !
