How I'd FIX the MKM Story 

I really enjoyed your version of the story! Maybe you have some ideas for older/future sets too? Would love to see this become a regular format.

Your version feels like a good and proper Clue-style story (which feels like more of the intent, what with the crossover with Clue as a supplement to the set). Genuinely love how you changed it to better fit the spirit of the set, and also bringing in cards that were in the set, but never turned up anywhere in the set story. Echoing some other comments and hoping more of these story "fixes" happen. Cheers!

WotC should hire you to be the full-time story lead. Someone who is truly passionate about the characters knows their backstories. You are able to tell a more coherent and exciting story than what they put out.

Oh I would absolutely love to see more of this. I loved your rendition, that Trostani used poison food instead of weird mind-control spores and that you gave Kylox a wee bit more to do, even if he still died too soon.

I think to me the biggest thing was the whole “guilds focus” wasn’t there when it’s a core part of the plane. For example how you expect ninjas on Kamigawa or werewolves on innistrad.

Please please continue this video style as a series, for older and future sets you feel could have been written differently! I appreciate the story-time summaries as they are, but it's nice to hear alternative (or better 😅) approaches to Magic lore!

Nicely done! Your edits are well presented, and the new story is compelling. The only thing that stands out me is that the investigation repeatedly hitting dead ends could be frustrating to read, even though it would make sense.

I like your version much better, however, I would have liked that the murders were commited by a character, instead of poisoned food. I liked that all of Trostani was guilty, it didn't make sense that only one was able to fool the other two. And the Lazav mistery was really good! I thought you were gonna say that Jace was disguising himself as Lazav, but keeping it an unknown was better! Thanks!!

I like this type of content and hope you make more. Here are my thoughts: 1. I think the theme of the set is “whodunnit detective fiction” so you need a Holmes, Marple, Poirot, Blanc style detective for the tropes. For that reason, I’d keep proft as the central character. There are mysteries that aren’t detective-centered whodunnits, but that’s the genre they were going for and I’m not sure your version fits as nicely into that. 2. I would tweak your edits so that Niv-Mizzet asks the detective agency to solve the murders and tells the guild leaders they have to cooperate with Proft. Of course, they don’t all cooperate fully or openly. The basics of your version stay the same, but built around Proft gathering clues, making deductions, and gathering everyone for a final reveal of the culprit while dealing with guild leaders with different temperaments. 3. In a more meta sense, I still don’t know exactly what WOTC’s plans are for planeswalkers long term so in a world where you actually get to the write the story for them would they let a planeswalker be the protagonist? 4. I think I’m more comfortable than most people with having planes serve as backdrops to stories especially if it’s an established plane with lots of characters. Meaning, I’m okay with sets on Ravnica that don’t involve every guild, or even most guilds, so i wouldn’t have started from the same place as you if I were doing my own rewrite. Based on discussions I’ve seen I think I might be in the minority on using planes as backdrops though. I’m not sure why Ravnica was chosen for this set though other than they wanted the mystery to include known characters and Ravnica has a lot of those.

Loved the new version. Solves many of the bumps in the original story. Must say I miss Proft's moments and interations with Etrata, I liked the character. I also like Kellan a lot, and his partnership with Kaya was nice, mostly when his optimistic demeanor was contrasted with her own attitudes, so I also missed him having more space.

Having only one of the dryads of Trostani being the killer was such a mistake, going against everything from logic to lore... They do everything together and each one knows what the other two are doing. Thanks for this alternate version/remake. I'd read that story any day.

I didn't even remember that Amalia traveled with Kellam! I very much enjoyed the fact that Massacre Girl's bank account proves her not guilty.

Lovely rewrite! I especially enjoyed Anzrag getting a Gruul zoo from Amalia 😂 But overall a very nice Ravnica-feeling story, this is now my headcannon

After watching your video recapping MKM (I did not read the short stories myself), I was a little confused about why you didn’t like the story so much, but this really clears that confusion up- this is much better! This video is a really fun idea, and I enjoyed it a lot.

I absolutely love this story! It leaves no awkward characters or mentions, it gives each guild a nice nod, has a nice message about the plane and it's sort of society, improves the killers' motivations, and doesn't feel too much like the proft show. The little bit about giving anzrag his own pasture/preserve feels weird though, ngl.

Ravnica is by far my favorite MTG setting. I was even thinking about writing my own Murders at Karlov Manor D&D module, however, the original story kinda sucked. I think you did a great job with this, leaving me very inspired, thank you!

I loved this!!!! And honestly I would love a place for the Magic community to come together and literally write out the stories that we all unanimously agree weren’t done as they should have been. I think we need more of this, otherwise the game just becomes a “who can get the strongest card” and not “what do these cards tell us and what is the story behind the art and the flavor text”

Not going to lie, this was way better than the original story. It’s cohesive in telling a story and plot that makes sense, keeps up a good mystery while keeping it simple, and it gives the characters reason to not only be in the set but also ties to the story. Last point the characters are also displaying the iron clad rule of “what does this character want? What are they willing to do to get it?” All these moments with the characters reveal actions that they would do in the way they would do it. This was very well thought out and much respect for your story telling sir. There was love and care put into this and WOTC could learn from this. Thank you and very much, I enjoyed this, and I look forward to more of your story telling in the future as always whether it be more of this or what you have been doing already =)

I think this is a really cool idea to revisit in the future. Having the restrictions actually makes the changes more interesting. It would be interesting to see your take on a few other stories in MtG's archives.

I appreciate this version working within the confines of the established setting and giving characters more to do.

First step - delete the whole thing and set it on New Capenna. That’s clearly where the aesthetics, story and technology of this set WANT as a setting. There is literally a canonical TRAIN running in Ravnica which we hadn’t seen in the three sets leading up to this, but we had in NC.

Ufffff mr. Gómez, yours is a compelling and interesting, well adapted version of the original tale. Hope you make a similar video for the rest of the stories of this arc. 10/10 for your version. Thanks for giving us, the vorthos players the story we deserve 🙏🙏🙏🙏

This is a neat retcon of events. In either version of the story, it prompted me to think on if certain legendary creatures in the set were to acquire a third color in their identity due to how they were written. Like, Trostani adopting red would make a lot of sense given what they had gone through. They would all have to be totally different cards from what was printed, for sure, but I imagine it being a neat evolution of sorts for Ravnica should they continue to be exposed to the multiverse at large.

I was also interested in how large-scale businesses/workplaces fit into Ravnican life. How exactly does a mostly white-blue agency of Detectives not work hand in hand with the Azorius or at least other blue/white-affiliated guilds? There should definitely have been more focus on how the Guilds were dealing with the murders, as it's a great reason to get the story to see the underside and day-to-day struggles within the guilds

I enjoyed this. I'd also be interested in a version that doesn't have to hew so closely to the official story beats. The way it's structured it's not much of a mystery. It's still an adventure tale. Where are the clues, and misdirects? Wouldn't a "stranger, come from the Omenpaths" be a wonderful red herring?

That was very well done, i like the inclusion that adds more to continuity then just a 1 of story.

I do like your version better, but you're also just a great storyteller, so that helps a lot as well. Still, I feel like your version pays more attention to our favorite characters and their personalities and motivations.

I like your version. How you include Niv-Mizzet is actually more in line with his role and personality. And for the love of god thank you for including Amalia and Anzrag My version would start with reassigning (if not deleting) the agency. If Trostani made one thing sensible and clear, it's that the gateless are ignored. They are there for unbiased justice, so they should serve the city itself. Leave guild involved business to literally the man/Dragon reborn to do it. If BIG IF guild business crosses their desks, then they co-op with Niv-Mizzet, but ultimately, it's his job and responsibility and they should butt out

I think you should have found a way to bring the clue cards in to the story it could have been funny and thematic

Great story, hooded figure, should most definitely be Mormir Vig. I was always fond of Vig, wore out a few cards. Hated that he was killed so quickly.

I really enjoyed this take. I think it would've made for a better story that it's somewhat disappointing this version isn't canon.

I very much like the current story, and I feel that just because a story doesn't fit your personal taste it doesn't mean it's bad. I'm not saying you're not allowed to have opinions, but I don't particularly enjoy the idea of "rewriting" someone's work. Feels extremely rude to the author of the work themself. I would much prefer if you had taken the same writing prompt, and shown how *you* would have done a ravnica murder mystery, as then it is creative collaboration, not unnecessary negativity being brought into the world. Also, the dogpiling this invites on to the original story creates an environment where people who do enjoy the story, such as me, feel like our personal tastes in storytelling are being insulted. I'm very glad we have a channel that cares about story, but I do not think this is healthy for the community. I hope you can continue on to make even better content :]

Good rewrite. Keeping closer to the manor is good. Although I am kind of partial to the original motivation not being a corruptive force but that a non-black aligned person's beliefs could be bad.

Overall I like the story, and I do think they should have put a little more focus on established characters, but I personally like that mtg stories are shifting away from planeswalker centric plots and like new characters being the perspective. Plus, I will point out that it's a lot easier to narrate an overview than to write a whole story. No shade though, I do like this version as well and I'm looking forward to more of these

My only complaint is that there's some storyline spotlight cards that don't get used in this version, so you'd need to shuffle them into the story somehow or accept they'd need re-arted which goes against the initial premise. Otherwise this was fantastic and I'd like to see more, even if you have to acknowledge a few cards that become anachronistic.

I actually prefer the original story to what Ryan proposes here. Not every story set on Ravnica needs to give all the guilds equal presence in the story.

Sorry for judging a book by its cover but the name of this set REALLY dried uo any excitment I wouldve had From the war of phyrexia, revisiting eldraine, exploring lost caverns of ixalan, to... a murder mystery throwback. At a manor. Reads like a budget hearthstone expansion, not a fully realized MTG set.
