Hi Ranesh. I like how you put things into perspective . Great video again. Would you create a similar roadmap for how to become a data scientist? (slight difference I think). Thanks again!

Hey Ahmed, I love that you asked that question. I was on that Data Scientist path just recently and that roadmap allowed me to transition into one. Happy to create that video, for now if you connect with me via our Discord Community I can share what I did exactly and what worked for me

Ranesh Guruparan, I'm an upcoming MBA student at the University of Toledo (I happened to see you did your bachelor's in Toledo through LinkedIn). I've watched all of your videos and I really admire you. I aspire to become a data analyst, and after watching your videos, I decided to pursue the Google Data Analytics certificate. I'm almost done with the certificate; currently, I'm working on the last course, which is the capstone project. I was initially confused between IBM and Google for taking courses on Coursera, but after watching your video, I chose Google Data Analytics. Now, I have a few questions: How is the job market in the USA currently? I will graduate in May 2025 (it's a one-year program). Additionally, what should I do in advance to secure a job? What skills should I learn? I'm committed to learning every day, and your insights would be invaluable."

Hey Tharuns, I am an alumni of UT. It’s great that you’re coming here actually, within the past year we’ve done a lot to improve the program. I highly recommend you connect with Dr. David Liley and Adam Hintz when you arrive, they helped me a lot in landing my first few internships. The job market as of right now isn’t the best but I do predict it will bounce back sometime soon. However for internships, if you put in enough effort and know the right people (network enough) your chances improve significantly. We just went through our hiring process for interns this year and had an overwhelming 2k+ candidates but only interviewed about a dozen. That being said, those who got referrals had a better chance. I recommend building up your portfolio and skillset and then finding an internship either this Fall or next Spring. The fact that you have a background with the GDA and you are pursuing an MBA will put you at an advantage. I think this video will sufficiently guide you on next steps : If you have any other questions, do reach out. All the best!!

@raneshguruparan 4 месяца назад
Hello, thats great that you have completed a Data Analyst course. I would start by asking myself these questions: 1. What did I learn? 2. Have I applied the skills I learned (projects) 3. How good is my resume currently (does it reflect my skills and qualifications in a way that employers want to see) 4. What skills am I missing? (Look at job descriptions and figure out what they want that you don’t have). I think this video can give you more specific guidance: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BDepj5WFkas.htmlsi=_yL30erLl_0H8tSO

Can data analytics be used in cybersecurity domain also? Currently I am working in cybersecurity project as a cybersecurity analyst, can I switch to data analyst totally?
@raneshguruparan

Im not too familiar with that specific switch but I do know that within the tech niche, crossover is very common

Very very great video... and i want to know if you could suggest any resources to learn soft skills as well (the 3 behavioral skills that you mentioned at the begninning of the video)....
@raneshguruparan
@raneshguruparan Месяц назад
Great question. You gain soft skills through life experiences. For example, if you work an F&B job/ in the food industry, you understand how customer service works and gain those skills. If a customer orders something very specific and has odd requests, you will learn to comprehend the “ask”, determine if it’s possible or not, and then find a way to make the customer happy. If it isn’t possible, you might have to find a work around and ask follow up questions to get there or maybe it isn’t possible entirely and it’s your job to communicate that to them and still make them happy. This applies to all areas, the more exposure you get to events like these, the more experience you will ultimately get. These days, I try to work on these soft skills and hard skills together. If I’m working on build a new app or project, I try to incorporate comprehension, curiosity, and communication into the process. Hope this helped!
@raneshguruparan
@raneshguruparan Месяц назад
This is also a common behavioural interview question (i.e. tell me about a time where you received constructive criticism and what did you do from there)

I think it doesn’t matter as much what year you’re in. You could be a freshman or a senior and have the same skill level. If you are solely depending on a school or academy to learn from, you are limiting your growth. I highly recommend practicing self and continuous learning independently

My English speaking is so bad even i can't talk or communicate in English because i am from Hindi medium background now i want to know is doing data analyst worth it for me or not? Plz give genuine consideration 🙏
@raneshguruparan
@raneshguruparan 2 месяца назад
It depends on what your goal is. If you want to get a Data Analyst job in a primarily english speaking country then I would say consider focusing on learning English first. If you’re just trying to learn the skills and land a job in your present location with predominantly Hindi speaking employers, then I would focus on learning the skills of a Data Analyst.

Hi Ranesh. What are the best months in the year to apply for a data analyst intenrship as a college student? I heard that the peak months for hiring in the tech industry is July, August. Do you think is it true from your experience? What is the chance of getting data analyst internship interview if I apply on October to December?
@raneshguruparan
@raneshguruparan 2 месяца назад
That's a great question. I don't know if there is a 'best time' to apply for internships, I think it all depends on your goals. If you are looking to land an internship for the Summer of 2025 and want to get a chance at a FAANG/MAANG company, you will probably have to start applying super early (Q3 of the year before). July through September I believe is when they do the most of their hiring and September is the peak (September Surge). If you are more flexible and don't mind smaller companies, they tend to start recruiting in Q1 of that same year (Jan - March). For context, I didn't start applying till Mid December and managed to get 8 offers and over a dozen interviews. My advice is to start applying as soon as you can (when you have a good enough resume) as this will allow you more time to make mistakes and iterate on your applications to make them better. Hope this helps!

Hi I'm from South Africa I'm currently doing Google Data Analytics Certificate on Coursera i would really want to secure a remote Data Analyst job in the US while in South Africa is it possible?
@raneshguruparan
@raneshguruparan 2 месяца назад
Hi, that’s great! Generally, without work authorization, it’s pretty tough to land a job within the US but companies do sponsor. I also know of contracting firms that hire internationals and contract them out to US based companies. Essentially, you would need to put in a lot of effort into honing your skills after completing the certification and also try to find specific companies that are willing to accommodate internationals (assuming you don’t already have authorization to work in the US).

I recommend Google because it’s easier to get into but both are pretty good choices. If you have no programming experience I would go with Google, if you have some experience with programming then IBM would be fine too!
