I'd like to tell y'all my experience with big AG. I was right there in the middle of Big Ag Country in the early seventies attending West Texas State University. I had an insane passion for horticulture and farming so I changed my major to agriculture. This was so unheard of for a female to be in agriculture in a college that the newspaper came out and interviewed me. I was conducting clinical trials out there in the greenhouse testing chemical fertilizers versus organic fertilizers. So this reporter took my picture for the paper and ask my opinion. Of course I told the reporter that chemical fertilizers are horrible for the water, the soil, unsustainable and expensive. Well when I looked in the paper yeah there I was in the big Ag Texas paper and the reporter had written that I said chemical fertilizers were the best! 👹 I was so pissed! Yeah this is what happened to the environment. And I learned that day what Thomas Jefferson and Mark Twain both said, "The only truth in a newspaper is the advertising."

I remember having this discussion with an uncle back in the day, late 70's or early 80's. I was trying to convince to start rotating his dairy pasture with his soy and corn fields. It was like I was speaking a foreign language. I took him out to the edge of a field and pasture and showed him that the field was a couple of feet lower than the pasture and still could not make him understand. One of the first thing my cousin did when my uncle retired was start rotating the operation. It took a while to get off fertilizer, as some of that soil was in truly awful shape (some of it wouldn't grow grass without help) but 20 years on and the whole operation is off chemical fertilizer.

That 💩is gold for organic farmers. Hey Farmer are you raising 🐛🐛? People pay huge $ for organic compost and worm castings compost and tea. My dad was an entrepreneur and when we were young he would always stop at this farmers place on the way to the lake to go fishing. He would go on and on telling us kids how brilliant this farmer was because he raised earthworms and then set up a little automatic earthworm dispenser on his fence there on the road to the lake. He always talked about how this guy was an incredible entrepreneur because he had no overhead no labor 100% profit

I imagine cat and dog poop is really good for security against rodents and wildlife in general. When I had a couple snakes, I would put bits of their poop in tiny cloth bags around the house to help with the mouse problem we would have during the winter. Though he made his living working for the railroad, he loved to grow a large garden (1 acre) and he used cow manure for his tomato plants. I'm sure he used it for other plants too ,but he insisted his large, beautiful tomatoes were from the cow manure. He would put it in a barrel and add water then pour the liquid on the plants. Dung gives off heat. For centuries, people used to have their barns on the first floor and their home was on the second floor. The heat rising from the animal waste kept the house above it warm. Back when my family had chickens, we let the dung/straw build up in the winter so our chickens didn't freeze. Come spring, we cleaned it out and let it "mature" before putting it on the garden.

You should consider using diatomaceous earth for the chicken dust bath, it can help with tick and pest control. There were a few studies about it I'm sure you can find online if you look. :) Also the poop decomposing generates a lot of heat, so the bedding method helps warm it up for sure!

He would scare off the largest man or beast. if you were part of the family, you would often see him sleeping with one of the cats, or letting my bird ride him around the house. We have another for vegetable waste. The chickens turn both for worms. The barn paddock is far more successful than I expected. I can see that you will have no problem clearing in the spring. Now that you have seen how the cattle use the covered area do you think that next winter you will keep them out with a portable shelter? Good watch for a crap video! Stephen.

Let me share a little story about my dogs and cow poop. Freezing cold out, I let my dogs out to potty and run around. Dobermans that loved the snow. I’m outside and one of the dogs running by with a large frozen cow patty!! Definitely did a double take before laughing hysterically! Then in a bit my JRT steals it and is running with this frozen patty. The first dog went in the pasture again and grabbed another frozen delight and has to show it off by running around with it. Such a hilarious memory. 🤗🤗🤗

Bet you are loving spending more time on the farm. The animals must be loving seeing more of you. I have always used and known that duck bedding it cold compost and will not burn? I use it on my plants.

I think this is only the 2nd "dislike" in 2+ years of watching GSF videos. That thumbnail is absolutely disgusting, not something I needed to see.

*Morgan deals with chicken, duck, cat and dog poop* Me: envious, at least of the fowl and cow poop. How awesome would that be on my compost heap?! I don’t trust the manure sources where I am in Europe, because we have to worry about aminopyralid contamination, in my area. Aminopyralid is a weed control chemical method that is used on fields so that straw and hay can be grown without weeds through it, then used for cattle/horse fodder. Unfortunately, it passes through them unfettered and will contaminate and kill any dicot plant that is grown in it, even if it is broken down in a hot compost pile. Even years later, it will stay as a contaminant in the soil, killing whatever is grown there. Many growers have to grow something unaffected in the soil, such as corn and then dispose of the resulting plants, for at least a few years, to slowly remove the contamination.

We've only been on our five acres for about six months now, but the dog has decided that his poop spot is right by the septic tank. It's gonna make cleaning up in the spring really easy!

I tried the pine pellets for my cats and they ended up with their noses splitting and bleeding. Switched back to normal litter and it went away.

You should just drag the pasture in the summer where the cows go with a Dray Harrow to break down their feces so it integrates into the grass faster. It's really fun to drag a pasture.

_Honest question, not a critique..._ Why are you keeping the cows cooped up in a ½ acre when you have all that land to rotate them on?

I like pelleted alfalfa for cat litter. Clumps and biodegradable and in pinch it is flushable. The plant material is also odor controlling

chickens are actualy more dominant than geese. i have a small flock of chickens and after a while of feeding them and sometimes trying to hand feed them they are all dominant, they eat out of my hand and one of the chickens is super calm when getting picked up or if i wanna pet her and all of them follow me around cause they know i am their mother aka the food lady. oh and our rooster is also dominant.

You could put a thermometer in the hoop house. Just a simple outsise/gardenthermometer from the $-Store. I am just curious how warm it is exactly. 😇
