I raised an orphaned mourning dove once. He grew to full maturity and had total freedom of the house and was free to leave at any time. He stayed with us for several months and was quite attached to all the people in the house. Eventually he left home and found a girlfriend and started raising babies of his own. Every now and then other doves get into my screened in patio and I have to capture them and gently show them the door. Some have been captured (very gently) so often by me that they don't even try to flee. "Oh, it's him. He'll take me outside and put me near the bird feeder, no problem." I once walked into the yard and picked one up that wasn't even inside the enclosure. Totally free, not trapped or injured. It just knew it had nothing to fear from me, having been captured and released a few times before, apparently.
8:10 When she says "Beautiful!", it looks like the dove's noticing her and thinking "huh?". Doves are such beautiful, peaceful, lovable, fat fluff puffs lol.
I think they are very smart too. A lot of people say mourning doves are stupid, but they seem to pick up on people's intentions much faster than other birds and are highly adaptable.
CAUTION So, just because i simply cannot afford to buy chicken all of the time, that makes me a piece of shit and a lowly human being? Makes sense, doesn’t it, fucktard.
This is peak "Italian mothering" right here...overfeeding all the (furry, feathered, etc.) kids!! Reminds me of my nonna getting every bird in town to come to her patio for snacks. Your little friend is certainly well fed enough to make nonna proud. (I raise monarch butterflies and no one ever needs to tell them to "mangia mangia"...haha)
I made friends with a pair of parent mourning doves once. They had a nest right outside my back door and came back every mating season. They got used to me once they realized I didn't wanna hurt them
Thank you very-very much our dear friend Sean. This gorgeous dove every day our visitor.Yesterday was a great day when the Dove started to ate from my hand. We are friends finally. This morning the Dove waited at the window, end ate again from my hand. I filmed. Thank you for your good wishes. We wish you all the best. Friendly hugs.Maria & Bela
I can’t understand your beautiful language, but can easily follow the meaning by the beautiful tones of your voice. Very soothing. The mourning dove is too sweet. 💕
I think she's speaking many languages at a time, because I hear English and Italian in some parts, and then others say they hear Hungarian. I agree btw, this woman has a very expressive tone :)
Mourning Doves are gorgeous animals. I especially love their pointed tail feather pattern in flight. And their colors are subtle, but very nice at certain times of the year.
You are not keeping the population stable, many more die each year than are born, so they are now a protected species. Laws have not kept up with the loss of population. You just need to google it to learn what is happening.
exploring life actually, they breed pretty quickly and In many numbers. Say what you want but that's fact. "The dove population in the Western United States remains stable at about 43 million birds, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s annual Mourning Dove Population Status report released earlier this month. Hunters shot 1.3 million doves in the West (677,000 in California) last season or about 3 percent of the estimated population. When compared to the rest of the country, Western hunters shot fewer birds on average and a smaller percent of the total population. On a national basis, the USFWS estimates there are 274 million mourning doves in the nation, and about 13.8 million were taken by hunters last year (about 5 percent of the total population). This is in spite of an increase in the daily limit from 10 to 15 birds and an increase in the possession limits from 20 to 45."
We have them here in FL all over the place. I just recently learned that the "owls" i have been hearing in the morning are just these guys making pretty noise. I hope to come across one in my life at some point that I can take in and forge a bond with.
Saaaame. I just found out today and started watching many videos about Mourning Doves! They're here in Maryland mainly in the Spring and Summer and some are still here in the Fall. I believe that it's mating season, so I'm hearing and seeing them more often now. Anyways, I heared a mourning dove and went outside under my balcony to see if one was under the balcony (because every year, a Mourning Dove or an American Robin comes to the nest and lay their eggs). Turns out, there were two of them! I came out three times thinking they were fighting. I came inside and heard the "owl" so close by. I started thinking about it, and it would make since that since the Mourning Doves were so close by, it would be them and I was like "Wait, are they not owls!?" And I was thinking that since the birds were together, they were probably mating. I got curious I looked up, "Do Doves makes sounds when they mate?" (I know, that is the weirdest question) and there was a video of a Mourning Dove calling for other birds to mate with and it was the same exact sound as the "owl". I was really shocked and went around telling everyone jaja. I can still hear the Doves cooing rn.
Mourning doves & pigeons are common in my area there’s a lot of morning doves nearby my school flying and searching for food on the ground and even perching on the poles!
My family saved one of those from a fallen tree and ever since it has been attached to us and it live in a little house in my moms garden and she just likes to protect the garden from other animals❤😂😄
@@minnesotagophersrecruiting9185 While it is true that chickadees also thrive on peanuts, the bird that flew onto the scene at that point was a house sparrow and not a chickadee if you look closely.
1:15 Sparrow appears: “what are u doing! Its a human!” Dove: She gives me food, i dont has reason to fear Sparrow again: if they do something its ur funeral
Thank you very much our dear friend for your nice comment and thumbs up. We are glad you liked it. Have a happy Saturday evening. Best regards.Maria & Bela
Dear walkoART! Thank you very much for your nice comment. We are glad you liked it. Thank you for watching and commenting. Have a wonderful week. Friendly greetings**.Maria & Bela
So Cute!!! Koszonom MrBelu91!! These birds are some of the smartest birds around and will also sit there and look up at you. When a dove blinks, I would say that's the bird's way of trying to think (ponder) what we're all about. Scoff all you want scoffers but I may be vindicated one day as research advances and people evolve past just thinking they're the smartest creatures. Octopus are smart and can learn things even though their brains are walnut-size.

Pregnant? Are you crazy ? Birds do not get their belly round when they have an egg inside. It is rather a result of you giving him biscuits which is an awful food for any bird.

Lovely video! How did you get the dove to be there when you were there, instead of flying away? That would seem to be the first hurdle > the bird trusting enough to stay, or coming when you were already there, instead of staying away from us. Doves come into my yard, but when I open the door, they leave. How can I have them there when I am there? Please share details of How-To. Thank you! :)
Pigeons and Doves (close genetic relatives btw, basically the same bird) have historically been kept domestically for centuries, so a bit of human-animal relations is baked into their genetics.
I used to feed two small ones everyday until i started seeing two birds of prey flying around the neighborhood. One disappeared first and after a week the other one 😔, i just hope the last one escaped to a safer place and if it's not then i feel so bad about it.
Guys, there’s a mourning dove sitting in a robins nest on the front top of my house (there’s a handle on the garage that does that) anyways it’s gonna be using the robins nest since the robins left 2 weeks ago, how do I tell it without scaring it away?
