It brings me joy to see your excitement about plants. It's almost contagious and makes me excited about plants again. I love seeing your house because it's not like other content creators. I like stuff and "clutter" which you don't see often online.

The bedroom grow light area looks awesome, especially the funky lemon lime philodendron:) I think key is not hanging on to plants that you don't vibe with, even if you like the look of them. There are quite a few that I like occasionally admiring up close, as long as someone else is taking care of them 😅

you plant aesthetic is great it works with ur home and it’s unique and reflects your personality! you do you ❤ 100% agree with that internet/ig aethetic is really not practical and its not for everyone. who has the space to just have plants and nothing else like do they not have other hobbies or love for other items/personal things that they have accumulated throughout life. its so unrealistic.

Yes!! I get it! I got rid of some plants because they were “not rare enough” or “too basic” 😑. To please who?! The internet made me feel I had to. Sounds super silly. But I get it. Now I realized I love them and have been acquiring them slowly.

I used to enjoy and thrive off being different and being unique. But since I’ve started watching tutorials, how tos, and “things you shouldn’t do” videos, I’ve somehow lost my own way. This isn’t just plant videos, it’sALL kinds of videos. It’s no shade to content creators, I absolutely love youtube and I will continue to watch them but need to remember to do whatever brings me joy AS WELL even if it’s unpopular or the opposite to what’s everyone else is doing. But it seems as an audience we also do the same to content creators!

This!!! I find myself doing this all the time. Like if someone does a video on plants they hate and I have one I am questioning the plant, and think bad about it. Or even with house decor when people make fun of other decor that’s not there style it makes me question my home choice🥲😂

Not for nothing but the link between you making choices based on your own happiness and the way your content feels back to ‘itself’ again cannot be a coincidence. I’ve been LOVING your content again and it’s felt so much like the early days of being involved with PlantTube and how at home that made me feel and I’m so happy to see you leaning in. I have always said when you asked about the direction of your content that it’s at its best quality when you can tell the creator loves it, too. And I think you’re finding your way back to that and I’m just LOVING it all. ❤

I was showing your videos to my fiancé saying, she is my favorite because she is different and always herself. The messy house you are talking about is one of my favorite things on your videos because it makes me feel stress free. In today’s world it’s so hard to keep up with everything that people/internet expects from you, so whenever I was feeling overwhelmed I would watch your videos to get inspired to be myself. I needed this, SO bad. I’m a new sub of yours and THIS video just made you my favorite RU-vidr. I’m also a new plant lady, and have been struggling to find, “my style”! Why does there need to be a “style”?! You made me realize that there doesn’t need to be a certain style if a person doesn’t fit into one particular theme. Which, I don’t! I like modern, rustic, mid-modern, unique things… anyway thank you for being open and vulnerable. You really have inspired me!!! My first goal is to make a huge hanging planter with 3 different colors of pothos 🥰

I love that you realized that being yourself and doing what makes you happy is more important than trying to appease the internet! You're never going to be able to make everyone happy so you might as well make yourself happy first and then spread that happiness and joy around as much as possible and that is exactly what you do! I am drawn to your channel because you are experienced and knowledgeable of course but more so because you have so much joy for plants, are more relaxed about your plants and how you display them and you are different from every other plant channel on RU-vid. You don't have to have the perfect Instagram house, hair, clothes and makeup to grow beautiful plants and be a beautiful person inside and out, that makes you relatable and people are drawn to that. Keep doin' you boo! 🌿 ♥️ #randomandplanty

Harli, I so enjoy your videos! This one spoke to me. Although I am not on the internet, many people make fun of my house plants. To many, to crowded, to much work. I ignore them of course. I've excepted I am not a minimalist. I have my house as a jungle. My house should reflect me. And it does. My favorite thing to do is rehabbing house plants. Enjoy what you do. I've been doing this for over 50 years. I'll never stop.

I felt pressured (100% self imposed) to buy a hoya because everyone loves them but they do nothing for me. Nothing. I searched for hoyas online trying to find one I liked. Just because everyone else loves them. It's silly. I was also snooty at first about my golden pothos. But it's honestly my favorite plant. It's so beautiful and grows so fast and I can put it anywhere & forget to water it and it will still grow. What's not to love. I think we should all just do what we want. We'll be happier.

Just an idea from experience - I know, it’s scary, but - if it helps, you can trim half of those roots, off of the Burle Marx (and similar plants). Of course more will just grow back from the cuts. Lol. ;-) …it makes repotting easier. And helps the plant settle in faster, due to the “need” for new root production. You can avoid that risk of a big air pocket like you were saying; just trim the roots, even 3/4 won’t hurt it. You can trim, then fill half or so of the pot with substrate, then just set the plant on top! Then fill in some more soil and maybe top dressing, gravel, etc. If you’re worried about contamination at all, just sanitize your tools with peroxide or alcohol first.

I love using the Velcro strips to tie up plants instead of string. Anyone have advice for repotting a VERY long pathos? The vines run about 15' and wrap all around the top of my bathroom. The pot itself is a hanging basket. Maybe I could hold a bucket under it??

I like to see videos of people doing what they enjoy. You should buy and grow what you want. Decorate as you want. And if it brings enjoyment and is different that is good. Because most videos would be the same o, same o and that get's boring. Everyone is different and have different preferences. That being said common plants in a unique setting is good. Expensive plants in a unique setting is good also. Different plants expose people to plants they originally wouldn't know about and gives the ability to learn about. And yes I need Grammarly!! LOL.

For the first trimester of my current pregnancy, I totally had that same "I just feel like getting rid of all my plants" feelings, and I dod the total minimum amount of care to keep them alive, and now I'm 16 weeks along and yesterday I finally got around to potting up a problem box full of plants and I was just BUZZING with happy endorphins from enjoying looking at all the new growth and all the cool little things you notice and get excited about when you grow plants, and im so thankful I didn't get rid of anything 🤣 We all go through seasons and things are always changing, just do what you can right now and enjoy today. If plants are being stressful, take a step back. Plants are resilient and can bounce back 😁

I don't think you're alone in being subconsciously tricked into thinking what you want is what you see on Instagram and Youtubr, I think a lot of us are feeling so burnt out these days because we're unconsciously going against who we actually are. I totally get what you mean about liking "clutter", I'm the same! I like having knicknacks and things around and for my home to fill full and lived in. I too have been influenced to "declutter" recently and you know what? It made me so unhappy. I like my things. I look at them and they make me happy so I'm keeping them. Who cares whether I'm a minimalist or not? Literally nobody but me judging myself because the internet says I'm doing it wrong. I'm still trying to break the mindset so I can enjoy the things I love again!

Oh, I get it, 100%, Harli. Yes, your identity is tied into your social-media image and I understand the need to please viewers, now that this is your full-time job. But, we mustn't forget why we fell in love with you in the first place. Your passion for plants, caring for them and updates on your favourites. Focus on you, what makes you happy, what helps you grow as a person. Film when you feel like it but you don't have to film every time you do something planty. Let your home reflect who you are and don't let trends or expectations start tampering with your space and how you want it to be , otherwise it will no longer be yours.

I’ve been feeling kind of stagnant with my plants lately too. I feel like my plants are intruding with my husband’s space. Even though he would never complain, I just feel like I need to spread them out more so they aren’t in his way, which they really aren’t, but… Uggg I don’t know.

Ope! You should see my planks in the living room! Old siding from the distressed outbuildings my husband’s grandpa built, stuck in a pot & helping my plants mature! Glad you’re getting your love back!

Illogical and random= great way to describe the internet~~~~ So happy for your thumb twiddling thoughts Harli! ~~~~ Also wanted to mention the great shift in women's identities as we transition into motherhood and the transformation that happens in all areas of life during that time....... I loooove the plant hanging from the ficus!!!!

I love watching how you take care of your plants and YOUR prospective. It's refreshing to see something different and that's why I come back to your chanel. It's nice to see something different from everyone else.

Harli you are too fabulous! A friend of mine bought me a ginseng bonsai and I've been stressing and panicking about this plant more than any of my others because it's not one I see "plantfluencers" give advice or tips about. I feel the 'rare' plants may of had their day for alot of people, me included, my favourite purchase recently was a njoy gold, didn't cost more than £10!

You know what harli, you and I dont have the exact same "style" and that is ok, because that's not what brings me to your channel. I love listening to you talk about your plants, watch your journey, and just share in our love for plants. I like to think that my style is unique to myself and I love to see how others do it differently, and take tidbits here and there, and honestly the weirder the better! 😉 I really enjoyed this honest candid talk. You always keep it real and I admire that... That's why I look forward to seeing the next video you upload. When you went on hiatus I really hoped youd come back and I'm so glad you did but its totally understandable... life happens. People are growing too. All the best. 💚

I tried all the internet plant crazy trends but realized I didn’t enjoy trying to make tropical plants to thrive in my super low humidity so now my collection is full of the plants that have fallen out of favor but were popular in the 70’s. My Norfolk pine and false Aurelia are stars, snake plants are cornerstones, and I can’t wait for my holiday cactus to get decades old! That is my joy now, watching my plants mature and grow instead of growing the collection.
