OMG same I think when you keep the roots natural it looks nicer and kinda more effortless + it's less damaging to your scalp

+Ashley Almonte same! I mean if they're extra long roots sometimes it can look kinda bad but if it's just you trying to save some money roots, like tiffy's, it almost makes the purple look a bit more natural.

I love dark roots with crazy coloured hair even long roots I think it looks cool

I think black-ish roots complement cool colours like purple/blue/green so well!

Veggie dyes need to be applied to freshly shampooed not conditioned hair. With regular dye and bleach I agree with you but for veggie dye (pravana, manic panic etc) they are conditioner mixed with pigment, so they penetrate the hair better when freshly shampooed. If there are any oils or products in your hair that's not washes out you'll get an uneven color.

Thank you! I have bright blue hair, I always apply hair dye on freshly washed hair (as it states to do on every hair dye I've used) you are thinking of box dye (?) which says to not wash your hair and then it is the protect the hair from the chemicals.

I bleach my own hair and put the color in myself. I'm the only one that can touch my hair. I'm not a professional, but I don't trust a anyone else to do it. plus it's a little cheaper to do it yourself.

The cheapest salon I could find only charges about $65 for my type of hair, which is the most expensive they have. $75 including a hair cut, but I'm not interested. ^^

Getting your hair professionally bleached is kindof pricy but at Sally's the best vegan moisturizing dye to use for vibrant color besides pravana is Manic Panic, I started using pravana and switched to manic panic and I love it more, I've been using it for years and it's quite cheaper, a tub of any manic panic dye at Sally's beauty supply is $12 and the color range is enormous with so many different shades for every color of the rainbow. If they don't have the specific shade of whatever color you desire you can also go online to manicpanic.com and order from there. A tub can last you quite a while depending on what color and shade you get I dyed my hair Bad Boy Blue 4 weeks ago and you still can't tell if it's fading.

Dying your hair yourself is a money saver especially if you use manic panic and you don't have to do it the way she does it, I just get gloves, and dye my hair in my underwear. Since it is a vegan dye there are no chemicals that will stain your skin long term so I hurt wash off anything on my neck I'm the shower or you can wear an old tshirt you don't care about getting dyed, or again use an old dark towel or if you want get one of those hair cutting smocks. You DONT need a brush I have survived for years with just dipping my gloves hand into the pot and distributing the color throughout my hair.

get red splat hair dye. itll show up and lasts really long without bleach

demi-permit dye usually works the best (better than kool-aid) It stays in for about 40 shampoo washes. It's super cheap too, like 2-5 bucks at Walmart.

I would also like to mention yesterday I was straightening my hair and noticed it still had a pink tint to it. It has been 18 weeks since I last dyed it also.

yeah just dont use the bleach. its shitty anyway. but when you do the splat red, wait about a week and a half and put it on your hair again. itll layer and make it last longer. but if you change your hair color a lot or plan on going lighter in the future, i would just put the splat on once because its a BITCH to come out

I think that if you have dark hair, then a dark purple would look good on you. Everyone can change the color of their hair and look good, you just have to get the shade right.

Merciee Games You can try hair chalk. You don't even have to buy actual hair chalk. Just go to a craft store and buy chalk pastels. Not permanent and you can change the color of your tips every day ;)

Melissa Lozano use good quality hair dyes, manic panic is not good quality and won't stick to your hair well use pravana, special effects, or elumen I'd recommend getting it done professionally and then touching it up like tiffy

the problem is the brand. manic panic is a cheap brand. also since you had blonde hair, blonde is more twords the yellow color, purple is the opposite of yellow and thats why its silver. if you see purple shampoo its lkke the same it makes blonde hair silver. try to bleach your hair or use a better quality dye like pravana, ion or splat even

Late reply but maybe useful for anyone watching in the new future, I just tried Manic Panic Ultra Violet recommended by the saleslady at Sally's, it looked amazing and exactly the color I was going for deep dark purple, but immediately when rinsed it faded to a very light light purple, I was very disappointed. Tonight I'm trying again, but using ION Permanent Brights Creme Tanzanite mixed with ION 4VV Permanent Brights Creme Plum and leaving it on for 2 hours, seems to be much darker. I bleached my hair ash blonde as a starting base.

Try temporary dye on a test strand of hair then go to a salon with your dye and compare it to their colors

Ik how this can be hard, my skin is tan but pale for a Mexican, my hair is super dark brown and I was frightful at first so I took it slow and bleached only the under layers of my hair and kept that for a while to get use to it and I liked it (my hair is naturally straight and very healthy) after I bleached it for the first time it seemed fine it was soft and still strong just felt really dry like horse tail hair. After a while I dyed my streaks red with pravana silk it looked awesome and after that faded I chose to go with manic panic from then on (got the same results just left my hair softer which I love) dyed my streaks purple all the way through with blue at the tips, again very successful. Then my streaks were bright blue, I loved it and now they're like an emerald green and I'm very happy. With dying your hair I just think you need to work up to crazier colors and variations. Try getting your hair bleached first and stick with it a while or have a nice subtle color like dark red or burgundy and when that fades go up shade lighter and so on. I was scared to do crazier colors too which is why I started with red. But all in all if you know what you want go for it, you're the only one who has to love it.

Depending on what natural tones are already in your hair that will depend on what looks best on you. For instance I have natural reds and auburn in my hair so red's purple's and deep blues look best on me. However it is completely up to you ie: no one has natural green hair. Good luck with the dyeing process, colored hair can be such a freedom of expression.

Jessela1988 I wouldn't really recommend hair chalk since it does make your hair very ruff almost like you bleached it and you have to take a shower for it to go soft again if you can save up money and get it bleached at a salon they can make it less damaged so it's still really soft then you can color you hair any color I would recommend kool-aid if you don't or can't do that :) you can also get colored extenchens hope this helped ~liz

+lemon gerard I don't use manic panic because I hear that the color fades away quickly. I use this Mexican brand called Küül, and it's like freaking amazing. The color is vibrant and doesn't go away that quickly. Literally, it's amazeballs.

Dye isn't the same as bleach - it's not lifting the hair like bleach, it's just depositing colour. So there isn't any damage. You don't need to worry about the oils protecting your scalp/hair like when you bleach it.

I think she might just be doing that because it's what probably works best on her hair.

InstaGram_lover Use a hair color lightener/remover from sallys! Ask them, and they will surely help. If bleaching is your only answer you can splurge and go to a stylist that you trust or watch ALOT of videos on here and have someone you trust help you. Pay attention to the directions.

Search olaplex, it's a product You can use but you have to order or go to a hair place for. When you bleach it and use it, it keeps it nice and healthy and no damage, trust me it works wonders:P

Try sun in its a great product, it dries out the hair a little bit but if you don't use much heat on your hair it should be fine
