⤹Everything you want to know is here!⤵︎
Sorry I did not upload this video when I said I would, something personal came up and I was not able to get to my computer in time.
Today I am going over every job that I have ever had/tried out in Germany. A lot of people assume that I worked a normal 9-5 the majority of my time in Germany and that is not the case. PLUS a lot of people assumed I made so much money working a specific job in Germany...Which is also NOT TRUE.
I am not a person that necessarily cares too much about titles, I care more about making money and being happy. Maybe my mindset will change in the future but for now I can't do anything anyways :)
Maybe this video will give you some "easy" job ideas and real-life expectations on how much money you might make in Germany (if you take a similar route). I tried to be as open/transparent as possible, hopefully you guys enjoyed!!

Hello everyone ☺️ Thank you to everyone that has posted a kind comment about my work history in Germany! I have done so many odd jobs in Germany and I like to think that every job has given me a lot of character/personality (or worked on my last nerve). I have had fun and I only hope that is what I continue to have in the future 💕Love you guys & have a wonderful day!!!

When I was an au pair, my host mom asked me to grab something from one of her financial binders - I ended up seeing how they advertised their childcare job (they originally wanted a live-in a nanny) before turning to an Au-pair and were offering 900€/month!!! And they admitted that it was 40 hours/week of work (au pairs in Austria are only supposed to do 18). When I had a talk with them about how I thought I was doing a bit more than 18 (my weekly hours were 45), they gaslit me and explained it was because I was horrible, inefficient and slow. Still recovery from the emotional damage of my experience and it’s been 2.5 years...

Great video and a good reality check. I think many people underestimate the financial aspect of life in germany as a foreigner. Well paid jobs are usually only accessible if you have a formal qualification. Just for comparison as a formally qualified english teacher you would make 2500-3000€ after tax at a german school. Unfortunatley it's all about this little piece of paper which certifies the formal qualification.

@andreaseufinger4422
@andreaseufinger4422 3 года назад
@@HayleyAlexis In Germany, we are used to rely on WiFI when we are home, so the phone-plan is only for "on-route". We don't do big downloads there. So I think if you had access to WiFi at home, 2GB is more than ok, if not, 2GB might be quite tight. And it's definitely not the cheapest plan. The cheapest plan comes with 100MB or 300MB. Nowadays, those 2GB usually are no hard limit, they just lower the speed when you reached the 2GB. So still no problem for text messages, mail, etc.

Especially foreigners (but also Germans) beginning a new job I would recommend: Join a labour union! Some companies hire foreign staff hoping these people do not exactly know their German employee rights, do not dare to refuse overtime hours and work for worse contracts. The labour unions (like Ver.di) can advise you in questions of salary, legal holiday, mobbing, trouble with your boss/colleagues (and pay you a lawyer, if you have to go to court against the company, because of severance pay or whatever). Furthermore, they make your income tax declaration for free. :-) In the 80s an undercover-journalist named Günther Wallfraff wrote a great book about exploitation of foreigners in Germany (title "Ganz unten"). For 3 years he dressed up like a Turkish worker and did the most dangerous, disgusting and poorly paid jobs. Really shocking what can happen, if employees have no support.

It is a typical story you hear from other countries exactly the same. It wasn't also very clever not speaking the language a bit better when coming to the country. Of course you only get no proper jobs without speaking the language good. And it is always a matter of luck if you get a good guest family or not same the other way around getting proper exchange person.
@roselightz_3027

It always saddens me to hear of people having such bad Au Pair experiences! I was an Au Pair twice, once in China and once in Italy and my families both times were great. They both had an extra nanny/housekeeper though. The one in Italy was there 11-19:30 every weekday and the one in China was there full time. If families think of you as a nanny and treat you like someone doing a full time job, but pay you 300€ in the end, it's not okay! That is the amount I was paid and it was fine, because they understood it was a cultural exchange and I was pretty much only there to talk to the children in German/English and help with homework. I mean I did pick up the children from school in Italy and gave English classes in China, but that took like 1-2 hours a day. If you're planning to be an Au Pair I think it's really important to see if you're going to be the cheap alternative for a "full-time nanny" or if they want you for your language/ cultural background. In the end you'll only find out wether the family is nice or horrible, when you've spent some time with them, but looking for specifics like them already having a housekeeper, having older children, needing you mainly for language tasks(one of my children went to a German school) is going to help you a lot in finding a family that fits:)

The thing about the german job market is, that there is a lot of emphasis on language and certification. Someone who doesn't speak even basic German will have the hardest time finding a permanent job, but that only covers it for low-skilled work. If you (general you, not you personally, Hayley) want better chances for a moderately good paying permanent job - you won't come around getting certification or an apprenticeship, and that is often costly and time-consuming, and more difficult to get an opportunity for as you get older. And au-pair is supposed to be geared more towards cultural exchange while getting first experiences in the work force than the actual main job, hence the all-costs-included plus a little Taschengeld (pocket money) mentality in regards to wages, though from what I heard the au-pair jobs are riddled with exploitation and false promises. Anyway, I am glad that it worked out for you, job-wise, Munich has the reputation of being one of the most expensive cities in living costs in Germany.

If you have skills and qualifications you get great well-paid jobs even if you don't speak a word of German. And no it's not possible to teach at a public or private school in Germany with a TOEFL certificate which most English native speaker think...Same goes for Kindergarten teacher. How did you manage to get a work permit as a nanny or a cleaner from outside the EU? And why didn´t you have to pay tax on your youtube income while being resident in Germany? Usually you have to file for all your worldwide income if you´re resident in Germany.
@HayleyAlexis
@HayleyAlexis 4 года назад
All individuals who are considered tax residents of Germany will pay taxes on their worldwide income whether to Germany or another country. To help avoid double taxation, Germany does have tax treaties with numerous countries that determine where taxes are to be paid. If you’re earning income outside of Germany, you should review the tax treaty between Germany and that country to understand the requirements. When it comes to the US-Germany Tax Treaty, most tax matters will be resolved based on your residency status. Are you a resident of the US or Germany? Where are you working? Where was your income paid? All of these factors come into play when determining where American expats in Germany will pay taxes.

@teacup3000
@teacup3000 4 года назад
Private cleaning jobs often are horrible in terms of payment and treatment. These people most of the times are super rich but you can learn how to save money from them. And if they don’t pay insurance for you there, then you worked illegally and that can cause problems too. Payment for those jobs usually is after you‘re done but cleaning is hard work. I‘d never do it for people I don‘t know for under 15€/hour. But a rule that I also learned was to never throw anything away without asking. Also au pair jobs here aren‘t offered that common from everyday people I guess but often its more or less rich and complicated individuals that need someone to take care about their verzogenen Gören. I hope you get a job that fits you better when you get back to Germany.
@HayleyAlexis
@HayleyAlexis 4 года назад
Yeah unfortunately most of the au-pair families are just rich people looking for a cheap fix. This is not always the case BUT it happens often. The people who I was a nanny for had a cleaning lady and they actually left money for her on the table and she would be in the house by herself. She usually took the money as soon as she got into the home. I always thought it was so crazy how they trusted one another...but the cleaning lady was very sweet and I feel like the people really liked her!! Yeah I realized that AFTER the fact...so technically I made no money doing that job and thank god because if I would have continued it would have been a catastrophe
@kidaria1333
@kidaria1333 4 года назад
No it depends. It can be horror but it can also be very easy. Also many people hire a cleaner privatly only once a week for maybe 4 hours and majority of this people do not insurance and the state doesn't look after it so long nothing happens. The real deal are the cleaning companies exploiting their employees with minimum wage while charging the double amount per hour.

And so _limiting._ They tell you how to get from where you _are_ to where you want to _go,_ which is nice, but because _they_ do all the work to figure out the route, they never really contribute anything to your sense of your vicinity. There _are_ more useful programs for maps, but not on phones. An actual, physical _map_ requires a bit of _counter space._ Did it ever occur to you to obtain an actual, physical map book of the city?

There are peeople that need it more than I did and me taking money is eliminating that money for someone else.

@giulia6671 4 года назад
I’m German so I guess I can give you a little bit of information. Your study actually isn’t a thing here cause here it’s either a nursing “Ausbildung” with a specialization in being a midwife or a college major called “Pädagogik”. So you have 2 options you should maybe contact the “Bundesagentur für Arbeit” and ask if your degree is valid to be working as a nurse/midwife. I actually found a link where you can look yourself but it’s in German 😅 it’s “anerkennung-in-Deutschland. de” If you have luck they will accept your degree without any extra paperwork. If they don’t accept your degree, you could just apply for an “Ausbildung”. They gonna hire you and you gonna go to school at the same time which should be no issue for you since you already have the degree and you gonna earn approx.1800€ before taxes during that 2 year period and then you could work as a full time nurse (midwife) and apply for your Work visa that way. With your degree I assume could definitely work in the “Jugendamt” (Child Welfare). There’s a huge need for so called social workers either in their offices or in schools, kindergarten etc. depending on what you prefere.They are always looking for Social workers that support kids with special needs in schools. My brother has autism and he has a really nice lady helping him with everything and she didn’t even have a specific degree in that field at all. You have a lot of options I would just try and make an appointment at the “Bundesagentur für Arbeit” after you arrive in Berlin. They will definitely answer all your questions and also help you find a job especially when they see you already have a masters degree! . :) I hope I could help you a little xx Kind regards from Düsseldorf! 😊

How’d you get a resident permit to be a nanny? I’ve got an offer from a german family to be a full time nanny but I hear it’s hard to get the position because the family would have to prove there isn’t a EU citizen who could do the job, they want a native English speaker specifically, I don’t know if that makes a difference.
