It's remarkable that this channel doesn't have more subs. Perhaps it's because you don't do the click bait non-sense and titles eluding to giving the holy grail or the best kept "secret" mixing tip. When I look for tutorials, THIS is the kind of thing I'm looking for. I've watched all sorts over the years and Weiss and Sean Divine are my go to channels. Real time, practical lessons without all of the bullshit mixed in. Brilliant as usual Matthew.

great video as usual!! the music choices for all the videos is always so good, it really sets this channel apart from the vast majority of youtube tutorials. i'm curious about what systems you check your mixes on, are you using multiple pairs of monitors or do you stick to one for the whole process?
@WeissAdvice

Thanks Josh! I mainly work on PMC tb2s+ monitors with a bryston 4bsst amp, and I'll reference on Slate VSX headphones.

This was very helpful... please more Afrobeat mixing.... about monitors, do you feel there's any value in using auratone speakers for mixing?
@WeissAdvice
@WeissAdvice 2 года назад
Yes - Auratones give you the absolute minimum, but in a clean way. Very useful for making sure the important parts of a record are working. I'll try to pull in a few more Afrobeat examples.

hi Weiss, nice tutorial as usual just want to know how did you refrain yourself to not to duck 320hz bcos i would do that and make track lifeless with such many ducks 😂😂.. please advise how not to do over killing
@WeissAdvice
@WeissAdvice 2 года назад
I generally find regular shmegular ol' EQ tends to sound best to my ear, most of the time. So I'll use standard EQ first, and if I find it takes away too much then I'll try dynamic.

@@WeissAdvice I think he meant that in the video you mention there’s an issue at 320, but then you didn’t go back to it. The question is if this was a matter of restraint?

peut être qu'avec un dyneq pour le mid ?
@WeissAdvice
@WeissAdvice 2 года назад
peut être. dépend de votre oreille, mais je suis prudent.
@kikiqimixkikiqimix1427
@kikiqimixkikiqimix1427 2 года назад
@WeissAdvice
@WeissAdvice 2 года назад
Dynamic EQ just generally creates more audible artifacts. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Pinch your nose. Hear the congested nasally quality. It's means there is a touch of that sound in the mix.

of course! I did a mix that already came out. The album got pulled, but this is staying - so this is actually the new mix version, which will be out in a few weeks. But the original mix is still floating around the internet somewhere and I did that as well.

Smile curves may not be for you. I was talking to Chris Athens a few years back, who masters a lot of my mixes, and I had noticed he was adding a fair amount of 400Hz. I mentioned it to him and he pointed out that a lot of engineers, myself included, had started baking a smile curve into the mix itself. That kind clicked on a little lightbulb.
