Thank you so much for watching and liking this video! Please don't hesitate to subscribe to my little channel 😇I promise I will strive to always create better and better and better content!
This was such a great video because it reminds me to keep it simple and what I am looking for is right under my nose! thank you for sharing, p.s I liked the light it made me feel like I was chatting with you in your living room. What you had so say was so valuable I didn’t even notice! 😊 instant subscribe, also love love your style ❤
Maybe by drawing one of those many things you’re interested in each day, you’ll find you really like your outlining. Or maybe you really like a specific color scheme. Maybe certain character features commonly occur in your art. Etc!
That reminds me of something I'm doing. There are so many artists and illustrators out there whose art styles I like that I started making a list of their names and/or social media usernames, that would then allow me to privately rank them based on how much I like their art style and how close it is to the art style I want to develop. I'm doing it on Milanote, where I would then create boards for each artist that would contain some information and examples of their works that I like. (Edit 2 months later: I later decided not only to privately rank them based on how much I like, love, or envy their art styles, but added a second rank for how much I like their visual development skills!)
@@pawshirecoming back to this video I have found my style, but for me it was the media that helped me find it. My real niche is zen tangle like designs with Posca markers! I’m opening up an Etsy shop this week!!
This is great because most people say “draw or paint everyday” and that’s it.. Using something you Love as the subject is the missing link! I’ll have to try this! Thank you for sharing! 👏😄
Thank you so much! I have tried so many different ways to 'make art', books, workshops etc, feel inspired 'oh yes, this is it', then always losing interest and quitting, 'well, I just don't have it'. Your words inspire me. 87 and still 'looking'.
Your "uninteresting" story really resonated with me. As a former graphic artist, who decided to go back to drawing & painting, I had a tough time finding my style. Even though I've had small success in selling art & getting commissions, my style is all over the place. I feel lost. Like nothing I put out there is truly me. After spending the past few days watching videos on this subject, I have to say, yours has really helped simplify & put things in perspective for me. Thank you so much! ❤
Your on camera presence is so engaging, just lovely. This is really great advice. I think it's not absolutely imperative that you work every single day, but a consistent practice and committing to that is definitely key. Draw what you love and you'll find yourself developing. Do what others want you to, or what you think they want you to do and you will fail both in your improvement and your joy.
This, your story resonates a lot. I worked as a graphic designer too, and i needed to get back into drawing, which i always love. Working as a graphic designer, doing other ppl’s job orders and commissions actually eat at you artistically… by the end of a workday you are left with no creative brain juices for yourself. It came to a point i had to rediscover myself artistically again, and the road to that is art… the sketchbook is a mighty powerful tool. You gave great advice in your video. And your drawings are very good and pretty.
I love tip #4, recreating the work you love. The internet has made me so paranoid about being accused of "copying" that I'm scared to even copy others' work for myself, for my private notebook, for educational purposes! Which is crazy. So many successful artists have learned from copying others' work as practice.
If I am doing a study, whether I reproduce painting so I can understand the technique better, or just elements, I like to credit the artist in my work by either saying inspired by, or a tribute to.
Your uninteresting story is my story. Word by word. Except that I’m still not drawing and thinking about how do I make illustration my one and only thing that gives me income. Still working as a graphic designer. The advice you give in this video might be the one thing that finally gets me started. It makes ALL the sense. Doing this allows one to find a pattern, that one thing that’s unique to you. Also, your cat drawings are divine ❤️… and hand gestures are a must for explanations LOL latinamerican here 🖐️
I love that you have identified your art style. I've noticed over the past 15 years that my art style changes. I just love making art that makes other people happy.
you speak from my soul.. same here: graphic designer with lost motivation in the only thing i was good at, since I was a little kid. liked & subscribed
That was the most truthful and useful information for the stuck artist…overwhelmed is my middle name 😊….thank you….I will take with me “Practice makes Progress” not practice makes perfect whichever never really believed or understood. Daily fun/practice here I come….🎉
Aaahh, I really love your drawings! And the way you pick and put the colors together to create such harmonious drawings! Looking at them, even the unfinished pieces on your sketchbook makes me feel happy and wanna pick up the pencil and paint and start drawing again! 💙💙
Thank you soo much for sharing this! I’ve been having a hard time to get myself motivated to draw. Watching your video really inspired me to just do it for myself and have fun! Love your style, keep it up ❤❤
You are so delightful. I have a similar problem, i love everything. However, after looking at my paintings and drawings, the human eye and mouth along with trees seemed to pop up all the time. This actually gives me an idea for my next work. So! Thank you lovely one, how sweet you are. Hugs from AUSTRALIA.. Have subscribed.
Lovely advice! It really is that simple isn't it. I would add stepping away from your phone and find drawing references in books (online or physical) or old animation!

Thank you for this. I'm also a graphic designer that was a panting major back in college. I lost the "pulse" that I had when I was painting due to the length of time I have been a designer. Now, I'm trying to get back to making fine art and what I've been creating is shit. But I realized that if we take out self judgment, we also take out the paralyzing fear to make mistakes. It's important to be kind to yourself and to give yourself a break while breaking into this craft again. Thank you Pawshire! Excellent video tip!
I relate to this a lot. It was also really exhausting to "believe" that I needed to know it all! The decision to just focus on painting what made me happy was really a huge change for my journey. You can definitely get there too
I’m a graphic designer trying to get back into the swing of making art, I thought I was the only one! Knew you were a designer once I seen the graphics on your video. You give me faith that I can do both!
Your story is just like mine. About graphic designer and everything. I started to draw consistently again in 2021. Love your sketchbook ❤ by the way. Good luck 😊
So happy I found your channel we think alike for the last month I have been drawing the same as you suggested finding my way, women cats and few other topics that interest me. I find it is a great way to also try to complete in 10mins certain drawings Challenge myself daily to do. Wishing you success with your channel, I am sure you will be very successful.❤
10 years ago I couldn’t draw a circle. But I decided to draw every day and I have not missed a day of drawing for at least 2 hours everyday for that 10 yrs. Now I have sold my drawings. It is teue…practice practice practice. .
This was actually worth it. I mean every word you said was quite correct and too the point. I think this the only thing I need to achieve my art style.
Thanks I needed everything you said. I was sitting here staring blankly at six taped off cards naked of pencil, pen, or paint. By the time you finished talking I had a bird I love staring back at me. I will try your method every day. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇨🇦❤
Your story is interesting and gives a better understanding and background! You are funny and direct, informative, calm and inspiring to name a few in your video sharing. Great tips as well and I am glad you have found your way back to you through your art and talent. Love your (art) style❤
Omg! I love this! And your style Is sooo wonderful❤ YOU are so right on all of this-Don’t overcomplicate just do something everyday…I’ve been going through this too-I’m not as far along or structured with mine, I’m mostly keeping the idea in my body that I am a person who creates daily…because one day it will but it will be my art, not my job , that’s bringing me money and supporting me. Thank you!
Your idea was presented to me by my art teacher 5 years ago. He told me then, to paint the same thing over and over for 1 year. At the time I was really interested in painting fish, specifically fish with long flowing fins. That was when he presented this idea. So it's not a new idea. That same teacher was painting the same subjects himself and concentrating on an area and selling paintings for a lot of money, so he was finding this to be a good idea. Not only do you develop your style, but it allows you to become really good at it. I think once you become quite good at the concentrated area you've studied (a professional really) you would be good at painting most anything.
Your work is beautiful and I'm glad you didn't give up when you struggled to come back to drawing for yourself. This was inspiring to watch & made me subscribe because I like the down-to-earth energy you present while delivering valuable information. THANK YOU!!!!🎉😊🎉
Such pretty work you make! And I love this idea and tips, simple and solid. And it makes me realize I have been drawing the same things that I love over and over now for awhile, just for fun. So now I can look over those drawings for patterns and inspiration and (hopefully) can move forward a bit more with my own work. How fun, thank you!
your style is how you are drawing at this moment in time, and it changes as you draw and research art, people are too hung up on finding their style when they all ready have a style
Thanks for sharing your talents and insights. I can get down on myself for buying art supplies and waiting until I am "good enough" to use them. This inspired me to try and learn how I can get started.
I'm glad this video helped you 🤗 Buying art supplies or equipment can definitely give us an illusion of action, but at the end of the day, it's just motion, and I've totally been there ^^" Taking a small action everyday matters the most, and you can do this! 💪
You are one of the most incredible artists I've ever seen. I can't tell you how much I love your work. I've been trying to find a style for 40 years. I have excellent taste in OTHER people's art, but no style of my own.
I really like this video. I do feel this exercise everyday would be very helpful to both gain creativity and find art style. I'm def trying this! Thanks for the video❤❤
Hi Tich...this is such an amazing message! Honest, from the heart, from TRUE LIFE EXPERIENCE, sharing the ups and downs that come from the critical mind and then the fierce courage of the heart! BRAVO-OOOOOOOO!!!! Your truth spoke so much to my heart! I did this same thing in writing! Similar experience! If I love it so much WHY AM I NOT DOING IT???? 😄 Now I am here with drawing! When I was little, I could draw anything but I only did so when assigned a project at school. In the last five years, have toyed with drawing, but without an "assignment" it felt like... why am I doing this? Very achiever-oriented! In the last few weeks, have been drawing just for fun! Remembering moments from the last five years...how fun it is to just show up and see what happens! It's magical!!!! And then today, here you are in my feed with your WONDER-FULL heart and courageous spirit! Thank youuuuuuu 💕💕💕💕💕 How fun to create and to be with others creating! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
Good video 👏 I agree with you in terms of focusing on just so.e things that you like and you can do well instead of trying to copy other artists' works as there are millions of them and we can't be as good as them all together.
Thank you so much for being yourself here. You reminded me just how simple things we all used to do as little kids-doodling, coloring, drawing, were the natural seeds of creativity
This was very helpful! I have old sketchbooks from several years ago where I drew and painted different people, and when I look at them now I'm amazed at how good I was! Back then I drew several times a week. I haven't drawn for a few years now but I'm going to start again. Your art is beautiful 💖
Really appreciate this video. Also wanted to say please post more videos! Your art is so beautiful and interesting and exactly the sort of art I’ve been hoping to find on RU-vid. I would love to see more!!
As I’m picking up art again late in life I’ve encountered that same issue, finding my style. I have learned so much from people that I follow that I can mimic their style and it looks decent. However, it’s not really my work. When people compliment me, I always have to say I learned this drawing from someone one else and it’s not me. Don’t get me wrong, I like the drawing but figuring out how to express my own uniqueness has been a struggle for the various reasons you pointed out. I love your approach and I’m going to have to try that. It’s such a simple technique that gently forces you to focus on a few things and watching how you were able to see you find your style evolve overtime was very helpful plus inspiring. Thanks so much for sharing. ❤
I like using different palettes e.g: glass, baking sheets, foil, ceramic, china, surfaces other than those plastic palettes that stain and are so hard to properly clean for reuse. 🧡🌱
literaly I was overwhelm last night because of the same problem, I like to draw since my childhood but growing as a video-motion-graphic designer, but since I'm decided want to work as self employee as an artist I start to draw and selling it at market place, but I feel that I don't have identity. I felt confused and sad about that. Last night I force my self to keep drawing altho my brain and body not want to. But today after looking your video, it helps me not to compare, it is okay to make mistakes, and keep on practice. Thankyou very much :)
Your art is beautiful and you should be greatful that you have this talent and the arms and hands to express it. Don't be shy to shine, you have been given this talent by God, use it and thank you for inspiring me also. Thank you for all the advice and tips.
This is wonderful. There is so much so easily available that can become so confusing that I just stop. Very wise, young lady. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences. I did subscribe --🤔
Great advise, I have come to the same conclusion which is that in doing of the thing is that you discorver what you like and what you don't, I needed this reminder, thank you 💕 Edit: forgot to tell your art is gorgeous ✨️😘
This was absolutely the best advice I've come across since I started drawing. I'm enjoying the journey and trying to just go with it, which is a different mindset for me. Thank you! Your artwork is lovely.
I read Robert Henri's book The Art Spirit. Also The Artist's Way... because I'm having trouble finding my style, and i love reading about art and artists. I'm really impressed with your story...and will try what you say...as a new subscriber. Thank you so much for posting!! 😊🎉 👏 👏 👏
