|ABOUT|
I live and knit in Southern Ontario with my husband and my terrier. The name kuriaknits comes from my last name - Kurian. Kurian has Indian and Syrian origins and I feel lucky every day that my husband shared it with me.

I too purchase mostly secondhand yarn. I don’t get to thrift shops often but have found some special yarns on some of my visits. Great episode.

I, too, am an avid thrifter. I harvest a lot of sweaters, but also look for yarn all the time. Here in California fewer people knit so slim pickings for garment quality yarns. I have accumulated enough sweaters to keep me busy for several years, but often end up holding three strands together to get hand-knitting weight. I am my mother's caregiver, with lots of time but very little income, so the harvesting route is suitable for me.

I LOVE thrifting for yarn. Going to thrift stores is a hobby of mine too and I really enjoy it. Any new place I go, I always check out their thrift stores. My favourite thrifted item was a 100g skein of 1940's Australian milled yarn in the most perfect for me red. It's waiting for me to find more yarn to make a 1940's colourwork sweater with. Love your tips too. I live in a rural setting but have had some luck in town but I usually wait until I get back down to Melbourne or Sydney for big yarn thrifting adventures

I loved this video so much! I always forget to thrift yarn! Was so inspired that I stopped at one of my favorite thrift stores on my home from work tonight…was so distracted by everything else that I forgot to look 🤦🏻‍♀️ Will obviously be going back. Thanks for all you do! Love your videos!

How fun, thanks for talking about it. I have not found yarn in the thrift stores but I do look for cashmere, wool all natural fiber sweaters and unravel them. Lately have found some angora/merino/silk /cashmere ones in a very good shape but out of style, so they have been unraveled. Some of them are so wearable that it is hard to do it., will be wearing them and later maybe unravel them. The best find for me was a full set of interchangeable chiao goo red lace needles at the estate sale for just $8 , the only needle that was missing was US 10. Estate sales are also a treasure hunt sometimes.

This is such a good episode! And, I have to add that I love the sweater you’re wearing at the intro - it looks so beautiful on you, the color/pattern combination is top notch!

I am a total thrift girl. My clothing is proudly thrifted. I have purchased quite a bit of second hand high end yarn on line. Unfortunately, living in the upper south of the USA, I find very little yarn in local thrift stores. My best find ever was on an auction site for a bag of yarn. You could only see the top layer but it was all Alice Starmore, so I calculated the price of it and knew the weight of the entire bag. I bid a price based on what I could see, but was hoping I would get really lucky with the rest. When I won it and got it shipped I had gotten $800.00+ US dollars worth of yarn for under $200.00. It was all shades and hues of 2 ply color work yarn. I love doing Colorwork, so it was truly a find.

Omg, I am positive I was in the same store (#2) as you, so many of the yarns shown familiar. Awesome video, thanks!

This video made me so happy! More people should advocate secondhand shopping!! Great for the environment and the wallet! 😍 My favourite thirft is a pair of dungarees from Lucy and Yak! I don't live in the UK so finding a pair here in Sweden is not very common! Basically living my life in those dungarees now, use them almost every day 😂

No luck finding yarn yet. I almost got some recently, but had to be honest with myself that it was a colour I just wouldn't wear. We like stopping at Talize in Hamilton...got a nice summer shirt there today for $5...and once we started having grandchildren we bought a bunch of toys for when they come to visit (ones that could be easily disinfected, like the Duplo we bought)

I miss Toronto thrift shops! Also, there’s a British youtuber who recently got Spincycle skeins at a yard sale for 25 p!😳
