That was absolutely LOVELY! Thank you so much for sharing the journey. Seeing how many practice pieces you do to get final products makes me feel a bit better. I paint tight and realistic, but am trying to be loose and flowy, like your butterfly. Enjoyed watching this so much! Thank you!
I'm so glad you enjoyed everything. I find that what works best for me to 'let go' is work on cheap paper and psych myself out and get in the mindset of 'just have fun, experiment, be bold' and that REALLY helps me more than anything. I just painted a cardinal yesterday that way and it just flowed. Be sure to check my community tab for updates - I'll be posting that and other fun things I've been doing soon!
I ADORE your way of doing watercolor. Are there books out with your pictures so that I could study your paintings in leisure? I find books easier than a screen. OR, can you recommend some books which cover your LOVELY technique? Pleeeeease? 🥹 Lots of greetings from Berlin Germany ❤
Sometimes I think watercolor(and other things) shouldn’t give hard and fast rules. That’s part of what frustrates painters. I often see videos(RU-vid and otherwise), where teachers say don’t do this. And, in the same video they do what they told you not to.
@@earthrooster1969 No hard edges. I had a teacher that said everything must be drawn , then just drop in color and get out. Which doesn’t leave room for loose watercolor. Always paint light to dark. They’re are all kinds of watercolor teachers putting out fast and hard rules that worry. It also seems to me that photorealistic is something a lot of people strive for and if they don’t get that they quit. Me, I like that loose look better. If you look at the people that win the competitions they are mostly photorealistic.
