Did you just show me how I can take a *$2800 machine to fix my $1500 machine error cause of my stupidity? lol

Like many I am so jealous of the tools in use here 😊 but... Correct me if I'm wrong, could a palm router with an inlay bit, or whatever it's called have fixed this for like 3600 less?
@ChrisHornberger
@ChrisHornberger 2 месяца назад
Absolutely. Doing a traditional inlay model would work just fine, you're just relying on either 1) existing template shapes, or 2) getting the cut juuuuuuuuuust right. But yes. Higher-end tools don't typically offer you options that don't already exist; they offer you the ability to do those things - good or bad, intentional or mistake - with greater speed and efficiency.

Welp, I bit the bait. Its funny to see comments about how the fix could be done more simply. Yah, duh, it could. The point is to demonstrate that cnc tool on something simple, so such simpletons can understand it! Little do they realize they are saying more about themselves than the video, lol.

The jealousy is strong in this room. Have you guys ever thought that maybe these videos are not for you. I have neither but since i sell them at my work i will have at least the Domino by the end of the year.

No kidding. So what that some people (okay, most) don't own a Shaper, can't afford one, can afford one but won't purchase, etc... Watch any of Jason's videos and you know he's a gadget guy. Hell, that big ole bandsaw is probably close to the Shaper's price and people aren't bemoaning that tool.
@3rdpig
@3rdpig 2 месяца назад
Then maybe a more appropriate title might be warranted. I didn't even know what a Shaper Origin was until this video showed up in my feed and my first thought after I looked up the Shaper Origin was "Holy cow, a $2800 tool to fix a $100 mistake?

I remember going to a Festool Connect in Lebanon. It was the year Tom Silva was there. it was the first time I saw the Shaper. I was front row watching as the Shaper team gave Tom a demonstration on how to use it. I remember thinking… I’ll never own one of those… but it sure is an amazing tool. That was back when I was still drooling over the Domino thinking I could never afford any Festool. I’m saving my quarters. I will one day have one of these bad boys.

Fixing mistakes is 50% of the hobby, i'm right there with you. You make a mistake, wondered how you could be so stupid to do that, and then the forfilling feeling when you fix it beyond expetation.

Ah so your FAS grade walnut is now 2B. I do like how CNC can make a perfect insert and opening for things like plugs and bowties. But tell us, what lead to that mistake?

He simply fucked up on not (re)setting the depth after doing so full-depth cuts on other domino holes across the material rather than down into it. He kind of explained that at the very beginning.

This was insane. They sell a router bushing with a 1/8” router bit to make inlays just like this for $20 -$30. This is just an ad to get people to buy that ridiculously priced product. And anybody with any real knowledge and talent would have felt the tool going too deep and stopped pushing. It’s called skill.

Calm down with all the cynicism; you know what you don't need to do? What no one is holding a gun to your head to do? Buy the crazy spendy tools. ** shrug ** Seems pretty simple to me.

Cracking fix, but was the piece you used for filling the mistake the same thickness or shorter 🤔. I ask because it looked to be only filling the hole from above. If so, what is the plan for the underside of the wood, etc. As always buddy 💯% 👍 🇬🇧.

I'm pretty sure this is for the EV/32-Set Domino knock-down connectors, it's hard to describe with text so you'll have to Google Image search to see an assembly cross-section. Essentially he only meant to plunge about 3/4 of the way through on the face.

I'm guessing that the vast majority of your viewers will never be able to either afford those tools or justify buying them. I personally would have been more interested in a fix using more available tools.
@coolbugfacts1234
@coolbugfacts1234 3 месяца назад
You could do the same thing using a router, straight bit, template bushings, and a circular jig. For example, drill a 50mm hole with a forstner bit in plywood/MDF for the template. Use a 10mm bushing and a 5mm bit to create a 35mm OD plug in your donor material. Then use a 20mm bushing and a 5mm bit to create a 35mm ID hole to receive the plug.

I will only risk my life doing woodworking if I'm wearing a powered air respirator, earplugs and ear muffs, two pairs of safety glasses (can't be too safe), steel toe boots, chainsaw chaps just in case my legs get sucked into a machine, and a ballistic vest with AR500 body armor. I also have four quick deploy combat tourniquets on the vest just in case all four of my limbs have arterial bleeding.
