Guys I know your views are subject to an audience. But quit worrying about what or which content you put out in the youtube verse. Do what you want, it's gonna make you the happiest. That's why people are watching. Don't over think it...
Hi. Enjoyed the video and, as you asked, I'd paint it Millenium Yellow with a black rear panel, as the Le Mans cars in 2002. Would be appropriate for a track friendly car and eye catching on the road. Would match the black interior too.
It does look good in yellow a corvette. Or that dark purple color also. You could pull out a brochure from that year and see what colors there are and see by production specs what is the most rare. That would add value to the car. I know with silver it’s a very under the radar color. I’ve gone way over 100 in silver cars and not got pulled over. Black and bright red is the worst for getting pulled over. Another idea is to replicate the 96’ Grand Sport Colors with Admiral Blue and put a red hash mark on the fenders. Then changing the interior to bright red. That was a very rare combo in C4 Grand Sports and worth a premium today.
luved the vid ! have been a subscriber and watched every episode since popped up on the late brake show keep up the great work and content lads! fancy a vet now to go with my e46 in the black country if it fits in my garage as i wouldn't want it on the drive..
Nice simple fix due to your knowledge and acquired experience of the foibles of these cars. I'd leave paint as is but I love a scruffy mechanically sorted car.
That's true - Having experience with them definitely helps, if it was a different make of car we would have probably taken hours / days to work out how to fix it! Re the paint - We feel like it deserves to be great again so we're going to paint it although you're right, there is something quite satisfying about a scruffy but mechanically immaculate car!
I really enjoy the c5 content. It’s a little weird for me to see them aged since I worked on so many of them when they were the latest model. The back of them have 2 anti sway bars. The steel tube one that everyone recognizes right away, then the other is a single fiberglass leave running between both lower control arms. Many folks thing it has leaf spring suspension in the back, but they don’t. If you remove the coil springs from the back and lower it down, it will go all the way down. That’s because that single leaf’s only purpose is as a secondary anti sway bar. Upgrading the original and going with all urethane bushings is a great idea. Getting rid of the magna ride shocks in the back was also a very wise choice. I have an odd tip for water proofing wire connections. If the connection is in a low heat area, put some pure bees wax around the edge of the molex before snapping them back together. It waterproofs them very well. Keep having fun! You can message me if you have odd questions. I know a lot about these. Also, your thoughts on green are great for the color!
Thanks for the info - The monoleaf is a great design eh! :) I've got rid of all 4 shocks and replaced all of them, it has made a huge difference. Love the tip about the beeswax - That's a great idea! Thanks for watching ! :)
Thanks for showing what your are doing with Kev, just as interesting as the ZR1 If it’s going to be a fun car then how about Lightning McQueen colours ? Even if he is a bit of a mix up of different Corvettes. Personally I’d go back to the colour it came out of the factory. Keep up the good work and all the best.
No worries Stuart - Thanks for watching! Lightning McQueen colours would be fun although I think they'd suit a C6 more.... Considering one of the early (1950s) C1 colours as a nod to the past, it's so hard to pick a colour!
Another really interesting film. It seems like a design flaw to position that electronic device in such a ‘weather exposed’ area… but I assume that was possibly the only place for it. Thanks to you chaps, I keep looking at C3 Corvettes for sale here in the UK (I’m hoping that because they have less electrical tech, they will be less issues?)
Thanks Patrick! Yep it does seem a strange place to put it but there must have been a reason for it! We'd guess a C3 is more difficult to own and use than C4/C4 - Arguably simpler electrics but the carbs are probably a pain, also they have issues with rust so you have to be a bit careful when you're shopping for one.... Scratch the itch and get one bought!
Totally agree with repainting the Vette. I am not fond of the old people burgundy. A really nice color that looks spectacular in person. Is a 1994 corvette specific “Copper metallic”. They painted about 116 standard Vettes in that color. And I about fell over with how beautiful that color was when I seen it shimmering in the Orlando Sunshine ☀️ when I spotted one for sale Doctor owned, at a Corvette Specialist here years ago. Or you could paint your C4 ZR-1 Copper also. It would be the first one in the world 🌎 painted that Color as they didn’t apply it to that model. 😢
That looks like a really cool colour!! I bet it is amazing in real life! Couldn't bear to do a colour change on the ZR-1, it would be sacrilege! Another thought we had - How about painting Kev in an original '53 C1 colour?
@@Auto_Funk I understand your feelings about painting the ZR-1 in Copper but god was it the most stunning color I have ever witnessed in my life. It would be if the car had say under 30,000 miles on it. I would agree. But black is not a very rare color and it’s got like 80,000 miles on it right. Plus I have 5 cars in black and it’s a proper pain to keep them clean. And they cook me when I am driving that I have to add sun protection film to the windows. I guess you could add black tinted windows to the ZR-1 and give it a murdered out look to it. 5 % tinted windows. What kind of 53 Vette colors to the C5 you mean white or red ?
@@Auto_Funk on the C5 that was color changed from silver to burgundy. You could change it back to silver. That’s actually a really nice color. And pretty rare. I’d say burgundy is the most common color on C5’s and worth the least amount of money at least in the states. Torch red and white are also the most common. Wouldn’t it be cool to have the precious metals colors in Vettes. Copper, Silver and Gold, perhaps Platinum. That’s what I am trying to assemble. I have a gold Mercedes SL500 99’ and a Silver Mercedes E320 Estate 95’ now I want to get a copper metallic car to have together. We have 14 cars.
Take it back to original, I know it’s a CAT S but love bodywork to be original even if silver isn’t most exciting! Then strap a supercharger in!!💪 No way you picked that spider up, you even cut the film, bet it’s in landfill now! Tbh I would have screamed like a girl! Good work guys great content! Please supercharge it!!!🙏🙏🙏
Ha!! It was pretty scary, wife would have ran a mile! 😁😁 supercharger would be mega, definitely not ruled out for the future… Jury is still out on the colour !
With regards to spare parts I'm sure there are dealers and parts suppliers around Suffolk with there being usaf air bases such as Mildenhall so American cars do show up and supposedly spares 😊
As someone who deals with these cars on a daily basis I will say this: I hate the sound of creaking squeaking Plastic! Just picked up a '98 Corvette Pace Car Edition from the original owner. One of 1163 built but, it's also one-of-six '98 Pace Cars on the property. This one was flood damaged.... and left for about 11 years AFTER the fact in a Garage in Venice Beach California. 14,888 ORIGINAL MILES. It will be Canablized for parts. We actually had it running around the Yard for a bit. But, it's reached the end of the road,at least with us. It will be banished to the Desert where they all go to be picked over by our Customers. JUNK👀!
Aha that creaking sound is HORRIBLE!! That pace car sounds like a sad story - Especially with the low miles!! We need a PCM/Tac bracket for Kev if you want to sell us one!! (Possibly from the pace car?!)
Definitely agree re the interior! All black looks great in a C5. It's tempting to go back to standard silver but it seems like a wasted opportunity to do something more fun/different :) Thanks for watching!
Just had a little trawl on t'internet of your band is it you on the the bass. I'm watching on my phone as currently in Tenerife so hard to make out. You need to put your music on all your videos just like MCM
Cheers Anthony - Yep it's me (Llew) playing bass and some of the lead guitar on those recordings... We will include some more for sure... I think Chris also has some tracks recorded of his band as well so we will stick them on too :) Thanks for watching!
Yeah , any Corvette content you want to give us is cool . Maybe a couple of over-used phrases , but......that car has god bones, and is a blank canvas . Not a bad place to be IMHO. As to colour, what about something that 'Vettes have never been done in , if green , maybe that Vauxhall or Mazda bright metallic one? Or, for my money , that bright metallic Renault orange? Black desn't do it for me , personally, I reckon a 'Vtte should always be in yer face . Those Bilsteins will work good, had 'em on my C4 , and that thing carved , more so than my C6 ! I alwys wondered , given the side profile of a C5 , whether a colour scheme harking back to the 'coves' of a C1 could be worked out . Anyhoo , 'tis your car, and you don't need viewers to tell you what to do- you'll have a blast however it pans out. Now , about that suercharger kit................
Thanks for the support Mr Horseposture! :D You're right, it does have good bones, we just need to slowly nurse it back to good health and treat it to some nice cosmetic improvements and it'll be a lovely thing! The colour definitely needs some serious thought - Having it as a blank canvas is a nice excuse to do something fun with it :) Supercharger would be amazing but we''d want it to be pretty well sorted mechanically first!
I tend to think that for anything track, a non-metallic but gloss black is a great shout. Ever so easy to colour match in the event of a nudge or a gazillion stone chips.
Totally agree Simon - It would be nice to have an easy to match colour as you say. Gloss black really suits a C5 and also means any colour accents (for example wrapping the hoop in a contrast colour) will always work and not clash... I quite fancy black but at the same time feel like not painting it a fun colour would be a missed opportunity!
They did some nice bright colours for the C3… a bit of a retro touch. I’m also a sucker for the really dark green on Lotus Carltons… a GM link. But I’d still go smart and practical black. Maybe with a Knightrider LED sweeping bar 😂
@@simonsaunders1730 ha! Weirdly a knightrider sweeping bar would probably suit it! :) It feels like it should be painted in a striking bright colour to me but who knows. One day a decision will be made!
Good question! Llew’s answer - Always liked them since watching A Team, various movies featuring them as a kid and generally feeling like they’re an iconic car with soul and heritage… Also being a Prince fan (little red corvette) added to the appeal somehow. Wanted one for years and 3-4 years ago bought a lovely manual C5. Realised they are amazing cars, reliable, great value and fun to work on. There is a lot of corvette content on here but I’m actually more of a Porsche man believe it or not 🤣
