Watch part 1 here: • Free Husqvarna RZ4623 ...
This week I'm going to work on getting my Husqvarna RZ4623 ready to sell! The main thing it needs is to have a valve cover gasket replaced on the Kohler Courage engine. I'm going to try the silicone gasket maker option and see if that fixes it. Beyond that, I'll change the oil, replace the air filter and air filter cover, test it out, and it's just about good to go! Can make $1,500 on a free mower?
Welcome to Garage Story!
I'm in the business of hunting up old lawn mowers and other small machines, and either parting them out, or fixing them up and selling them for profit. Come along for the ride with my weekly vlogs, and how-to videos.

The gasket maker is good to know about. I have a v- twin with some leakage on the valve covers.

With gasket maker, you can put it on both surfaces, or just the valve cover, what I do, I apply it to both surfaces, let it dry for about 3 to 5 minutes then I put it together, wait 45 minutes, then apply final torque, then let it dry over night, then you're good to go, nice job and great sale.

Thanks for sharing! I don’t have a lot of experience with gasket maker, so I appreciate hearing how others use it.

Don't know if you know this, but a trick I use for shining up a mower, I use ATF automatic transmission fluid, but only regular atf, atf+4 or any other kind doesn't work as well, put the atf on a clean rag and wipe it down, it looks brand new.

How long does it stay looking nice?

I put gray plastic dip on the mower I bought it had a hole along the seam. So I bought it and fixed it with plastic dip. Looks good has held. If it comes loose I’ll try duct tape and look for a used seat. New is like 600 bucks. Hell nah

I’ve thought about trying the plastic dip, but haven’t yet. That’s good to hear some feedback!

It’s likely that if it was well maintained the owner may have taken it to a shop. After so much run time sometimes they recommend the valves be adjusted, so if that happened then a shop could have used silicone after adjusting the valves?

Could be!

I really liked seeing the completion of this project!! Great job; can't beat a $1,500 profit, especially for the amount of work you put into it

Also get a green slime container empty and clean it out, then put atf fluid in it, and when you have a tire that has a slow leak, it will seal it better then the green slime, use about 1 pint of atf squeeze it into the valve stem with the valve out of the valve stem, fill it with the pint, spin the tire so it coats the inside of the tire, put the brass valve back in the valve stem, fill it with air, run it around, and it will fix the leak, it won't fix an object in the tire but it sometimes fixes dry rotted, or slow leak tires.

Interesting! I never thought of using ATF to help seal a tire.

@@garagestory oh yeah a trick we small engine flippers know well, it really works wonders on the mowers, and in the tires.
