Sorry, nothing is crashing .. its just going form stupidly over retail to well over retail.... witness there GMT Meteorite dial... Good luck getting a new one for less than 10K over MSRP... is that a crash? No, because $100K for one is just stupid
I do include below retail models. But in case of the Daytona, if you want it, I really do think it's fine to pay a bit over retail. What's $3k vs waiting 2 years for an allocation? To some, that's worth it.
Agree and disagree. As our host points out, you get the enjoyment - only you know what it’s worth to you. Using his example of the $3500 over retail 2 tone. IF (unlikely) the AD said ‘you can have it in 3 yrs’, that a little over 1000 days so one is paying $3.50/day to wear an awesome watch.
I am happy to pay €15,000 for a 1934 Bugatti Type 59 Grand Prix car new old stock radiator or €55,000 for its new old stock supercharger simply because these items are as rare as chicken teeth and I have one of these Type 59 car. I would not pay any premium for any modern watch and it should be way below retail if it is second hand whether discontinued or not given that these are in no way exclusive given their production numbers… There are millions of these around and even more are churned out each day.
I truly appreciate your analytic content and view! One thing, though: Showing premium in terms of % of list price (instead of US$ premium) would show a more accurate picture, I would assume. If sticking to US$ premium, taking list prices into consideration is important. Steel Daytona is roughly 15,500 Euro, while steel/gold is 21,000 Euro and full yellow gold is 42,000 Euro. So yellow gold is almost triple the price of steel, after the increases in precious metal prices by Rolex. That is a HUGE difference for technically identical watches and explains why precious metal Rolexes never carried the premium steel versions did. Keep up the great content!.
Sure, I'll add the pct drop. I did include the retail price, understanding that some references will be out of reach for some people. That includes me!
There are now plenty of gold Rolex with a secondary value below retail. I guess the challenge is Rolex are a very solid watch, but not high complication, or high horology when compared to other watches at the solid gold prices. Holy Trinity or a Langhe might be more appealing. I also think trend is your friend. I looked at a white gold yachtmaster, and was asked if I would like it immediately. No wait list. Same for the white gold Pepsi GMT. It will not be long before this trend potentially extends to Daytona too for precious metal variants.
Yeah, waiting for now is what I recommend. But I do think the slide in prices even for a Daytona is a sign of good things to come. As for the Holy Trinity, I've got a video coming soon. Something odd happening to VC.
I appreciate the amount of research involved for your analysis. Unfortunately Daytona's, and chronographs in general, don't appeal to me. Dive watches are much more useful, and no, I don't dive, but I use the bezel to time things very often. Regardless of buyin g opportunities, this is an expensive obsession! Keep up the great work!!
I've recently began my obsession as a watch collector. And i must say- out of all the luxury brands I've been researching, for me the MaMaCoo 's watches are the most intriguing.
Can’t beat gold polished Roman numerals that sparkle like jewels in the sunlight. Loving the sun ray dial man that pops! MAMACOO watches. What a beautiful subtle piece.
I might consider getting a platinum Rolex GMT if I ever win those million dollar Vegas contests for football in my lifetime instead of getting the 1952 Mickey Mantle PSA 3 rookie card and a 1986 PSA 9 Michael Jordan rookie card.
Great timing. And great analysis. I’ve been stalking the wht dial 503s, 513s and 523s recently. The only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger is the worsening economy. I’m going to wait - just got the new Coke Tudor GMT and will rotate it with my Batman and other Tudors as the economy sinks.
"without breaking the bank" and proceeds to show the price coming down on gold models that cost $40k+. The two-tone models are ugly...who wants a two-tone Daytona? There's a reason they barely trade above retail: people don't want them.
Fair enough. But you know the Daytona is simply an expensive model. It's the price you pay for that watch. However, there are lower price references. I might do a follow up video on the most affordable models if there's interest.
Has anyone bought a Rolex from Caroussel, and how was your experience? I am concerned about authenticity, and could not find any feedback from a trusted source recommending the platform.
This hilarious, it’s like saying truck prices are going down, when they were already overpriced by 20g to begin with! They are beautiful time pieces, but please don’t act as if they are being slashed by 50%!
I have a real SUB but I also bought one of these replicas from MaMaCoo for piece of mind if I go to another country or if I am doing activities that can damage the watch. I don't see anything wrong with that.
Traveling with a fake Sub isn’t a good recommendation. You may get serious problems during the customs process depending on the country you are entering.
