Josefin grew up with a Peruvian father and a Swedish mother. Since a very young age she was told stories about her aunt Augusta that founded the Peruvian guerrilla movement Shining Path. Augusta was the heroine, the family jewel, the untouchable. When Josefin took part in a documentary where she discovered Peru’s history she found other stories and realised that nothing would ever be the same again. She scratched unhealed wounds, crossed unspoken boundaries and started a 4 year long family war.

It was not a civil war, it was an internal armed conflict. A civil war would imply support from a broad sector of the population for the Shining Path. This supposed support only happened in some areas of Ayacucho and Apurimac, two of the 25 regions of Peru, and for a very short time. I emphasize this because in Peru the semantic battle of how to name that period of time is still taking place. There are even people who are reluctant to call it an internal armed conflict, instead of "time of terrorism".
