How I Get Rid of Rivers on a Diamond Painting - Oly Replacement Canvas AliExpress

LOL I almost spit my coffee when you said you were gonna contact the seller and out came the knife!!! Thank you for showing up close and personal how to fix rivers. I'm one of "those" that have refused to fix my paintings thus far (as I believe I shouldn't have to fix something I've paid for). BUT....but, I have a couple Houcan that I reallllly really like, haven't found anywhere else, and so I'm gonna try this method to fix them. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that if it ain't poured glue, I won't buy it.

So I know you said that most of us have seen all these types of videos. But, everyone does things differently. even if you're all thinking you're doing the same technique each of you bring your own take or your own spin. I personally really liked yours because it was methodical. the zooming in really helped to see the problems and it helps me know that if I do encounter this issue I have basically a step by step guide to show me. Very thorough as always. Thank you again!!

New to DP, great tips. I have a canvas that will not lay flat so I will try this.

Great info. What I do after " cutting" the rivers and bubbles is I iron the canvas, then lay it flat under my mattress. Just my approach. 💕💕

I have one that I'm working on now that has rivers and I'm just trying to flatten it out as I go I didn't know it that there was a way of fixing it but I'm so glad that somebody else in my group on Facebook brought it up cuz I didn't even know that it was called the rivers to me it was just buckled tape

Cut it into rectangles while cutting out the rivers. Make a multi set of smaller paintings.

You might already have one of these but I keep a dud canvas just for experimenting. I enjoyed your video😊

Double sided tape is notorious for big rivers in the tape. When a diamond painting has a paper cover, it is double sided tape. If it has a clear cover, it is poured glue and a better painting. When it has bad rivers, you should, rather than cut it, which causes it's own issues. Use a spatula tool and push the river together, each side, then to the end. (Top or bottom) It pushes the air bubble to the end of the canvas where it can escape. I've been doing these for 6 years, so I'm not a beginner. 👍😊

Always good to have a refresher on fixing our DPing! I have not been ordering off aliexpress too much at all lately because of so many of the “better” stores seeming to have issues now! I don’t know what’s happening! Maybe their trying to turn out the DPs so fast to compete with other stores that the quality is really starting to be effected, just my opinion though! Who knows, anywho Tfs, til next time!

I have recently just received custom canvas that has massive rivers in it. I think they are almost too big to be fixable 😕 I will give your technique a go though because I don't want to wait another 4 weeks for a replacement to arrive! Also I have just recently got into diamond paintings and I love all your videos ❤️

Hi Rachel, can I suggest that you pull off the adhesive and replace it first and complete it using spare drills. I am doing that with one of mine that was in a really bad state. :)

I would practice sealing the painting with different types and brands.

Wow, that first one is really bad!!!! And then I had to watch you pull back the paper on the 2nd one twice, because I could not believe what I saw the first time. I agree with you 100% about us needing to stand up to get the quality products we pay for. I'm glad the second canvas is better, and I would likely just keep the canvas, but be ready to toss it if I need to use the drills for another project that I liked better. I'm dying to find out how the drills for this project turn out!! 😘💖

I always save my diamonds, especially if there are DMC. Canvas pitch or try to fix

Do you have to slice it with a knife or can you push on the tape with a flat edge of the diamond painting pen attachment

Is there anything I can use instead of an exacto knife as I don’t have one? Could I use scissors?

So before you spend hours placing the drills, I feel this question should be asked. If the glue layer is separating from the fabric canvas before the weight of the drills are added, what will prevent the glue from separating from the fabric after the drills are applied?

Never apologise, I’ve now seen two canvas repairs, yours and Ella’s, as for the canvas? Repair it and play around with the colours, there are a rainbow of possibilities.

I had a thought while watching this... I know this is going to sound complicated, but I'm wondering if it would work.... I've seen some like to cut off the adhesive on the outside edges when it's that double-sided adhesive. So I'm thinking... couldn't the same be done for rivers? Cut out the bad area, pull it up and then use something like Tack it Again and Again or even double-sided tape to replace the sticky? Maybe we could try that on a "throwaway" canvas.

Hi Rachel, after you got rid of the rivers, wrinkles, etc, does the canvas still stay sticky? Isn't this spot getting less sticky after scratching? Or is this just fine? Thanks in advance ❤️

My room mate accidentally spilled oil on my canvas...it's not sticky now at all. I've got as much of it off as I can Any options to avoid throwing it away? Spray adhesive? I have no idea. I'm about 18 hours into this one. :( Ps. I love your channel 💕💕

I had the same problem. Ordered 2 x canvas. Both terrible. Puckers all over. Got new ones who were good. Also had to pay 0,09 cent for it.

I would try to rip off the glue and save the canvas. A nice piece to use storage drills on and maybe gift to someone. Buy adhesive tape or glue each drill down.

I've so far only bought cheep canvases from stores like Stacks and Daiso in Australia and rivers are such a big problem in all of them! Looking into supporting some Australian independent sellers and not buy cheap ones anymore but the other thing with alot of cheap ones is they just have one single plastic film across the ENTIRE CANVAS which I think makes the rivers appear more and also makes the glue dry. I'm working on a cheaper one right now ($5 AUD from Stacks) and holy crap the glue is just drying too quickly while I'm painting that it makes it difficult for the gems to stick to towards the end of a particular section 🙄

Your rivers in this video are large. I have one with much thinner rivers but they are ALL over. I've used the exact knife and followed your directions but they are still there. What should I do?

Hey Rachel 😁 I just wanted to ask you( since ur a pro) how to remove rivers without an exacto knife. I do not own an exacto knife but I do own a knife 🔪 will a knife work?

That is exactly I how I feel about HomFun on Aliexpress - I am on my 2nd one out 4 that I ordered - the bubbles and rivers are insane on one of the 2 left the glue is coming off... I tried the knife I tried everything and nothing will help. The drills are popping off I am going to have to glue them down. I am going to try the diagonal approach now.

Oh maaaan! I can't remember at the top of my head, but did you also have a fuyun with this issue or is it just Oly? (I'm kind of hoping that there is just one very incompetent person working at Oly.) This is so annoying, especially because this adhesive is actually so great, I enjoyed it a lot, even though it was a single diamond at a time project LOL

I just recently received a canvas with really bad rivers. I contacted the company and all they said was to place books on the canvas and they would go away. Does that actually work? There's a good 15 or so rivers in it. I wanted a replacement but they are not budging

rivers are caused by the humidity during shipment not the fault of seller or supplier

I wouldn't order from them again either. After the first one you would think that they would check more carefully.😘😊🤗

I'm curious if anyone has tried using a hair dryer or heat gun on rivers? It seem like a good possibility that the glue is applied warm, so it may help to warm it back up!

I personally have given up on Diamond Painting. I have tried all the big reputable companies that people talk about being great, not that it’s their fault, but I get them and they are so full of rivers and bubbles I would spend days trying to get the bubbles out, the rivers ruin the canvas completely. I try to talk to the companies, take pictures and the responses are awful. With one they sent me a canvas in the same condition as the defective one. I was so looking forward to this, I’m disabled and this was supposed to be fun. Not fun!!!!

I got 2 paintings from there, the first was the popping diamonds was awful second the rivers are just like your painting. I tell everyone not to buy from there. If they would just care about the product it might be better ya know.

I can't put only cents on my credit card. My bank will block my credit card thinking it to be a fraudulent activity. I don't blame bank. They are only looking after us. These Diamond Painting stores need to raise an internal method for raising tracking on problem orders. It is their problem. We don't pay for substandard items. We are already inconvenienced when issues arise. One DP I bought had missing drills., I knew my card would be instantly blocked. I had no choice but to purchase the drill separately when I made another purchase later on. I have reached the disappointed slash annoyed point, where the pleasure of DP is ebbing away. In all honesty I am now getting into Dot Painting. It is more relaxing and requires more artist input. It is a pity but I am just tired of the buyer agro that seems to be becoming more frequent, unless we spend a lot of money on our canvases, frankly as a pensioner I can't afford it. It is more likely that it is just me and the place I am in at present with up coming surgery, but truly it has just become too much of late for me. Mind I still like being pat of unboxings and WIP & chats, even though I don't join in. More of us need to be trying to get this replacement issue sorted with sellers, instead of accepting interior products.
